Ask HN: Would someone in Japan try out my game?

Posted by bahrtw on Sunday June 28, 2026 @10:16AM
from the ask-hn dept.

Hello there,I made a postbox hunt for Japan, because I think Japan has the most beautiful postboxes in the world. And the mail is so alive there.I'm not sure how to reach an audience in Japan. Could somebody help me figuring out where to find people who might like this?

I'm trying to build a global index of government emergency-preparedness documents. It’s interesting how they vary and on the other side are quite the same.

If you can help by sharing your country’s official guide, it would make the collection more complete:

Do You Send Messages?

Posted by bahrtw on Wednesday July 09, 2025 @08:22AM
from the self-post dept.

Hi all,I’m always sending myself messages. Maybe you do too? Shopping lists, things to do, good quotes, recipes, beautiful pictures, movies I want to watch, random ideas...really curious if it is just me not using a note taking app, or more people are doing it this way? Don't know when I started using this, but never switched to some proper app.

Re:Show HN: Jukebox – Free, Open Source Group Playlist with Fair Queueing on Tuesday July 08, 2025 @12:58PM (#44501848)
Superfun! Would be cool if you could experience the Jukebox itself, with a playlist from visitors? Then you directly have playable songs? :)
Re:Show HN: I made a public chat where you pay to speak on Saturday July 05, 2025 @10:05AM (#44472893)
Thanks for your reply! Haha, it was on my mind for weeks so I thought SHIP it. It's part social experiment, part digital art, and part time capsule.

The idea is to capture raw, unfiltered thoughts frozen in time. Messages are meant to be permanent. like a snapshot of now...so they'll stay up as long as the project exists. Ideally, that’s decades?

People can include links or images. I don’t plan to moderate content unless it’s illegal or clearly harmful.

Show HN: I made a public chat where you pay to speak

Posted by bahrtw on Saturday July 05, 2025 @09:43AM
from the show-hn dept.

So I made this thing: https://www.paytosay.itIt’s a public chat room, but there’s a catch: You have to pay to say something. Each message costs real money. There are 1,000 message slots total. Once they're filled, that's it, the chat becomes a permanent digital time capsule. Why? I don’t know. Maybe I was tired of the noise. Maybe I wanted to see what happens when people really have to think...

Yes, I just looked at the website of the French Post. And I am a little bit shocked how many templates they have for administrative processes.. (Demarches administratives - 37). Looks like they need a good Post service because people still need to send a lot of important letters by physical mail..
Re:Show HN: I made a tool to send a letter now people use it to just p... on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @03:30PM (#43697377)
heard about that! My experience is that in France they still use a lot of traditional stuff like cheques, but this is really cool.
Re:Show HN: I made a tool to send a letter now people use it to just p... on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @03:20PM (#43697260)
Did a little survey on what people are actually using the website for and this was not quite the outcome I expected!

Thanks for the compliment, and really cool to hear there are other services like this out there :)

Re:Show HN: I made a tool to send a letter now people use it to just p... on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @02:56PM (#43696998)
That sounds interesting and superfast! Would be cool to use that! "The need was very selfish - we all felt that sporadic printing should not be a burden that occupies permanent space in our lives only to fail us when we really need it. Our existing distribution network also enabled us to deliver high-quality printouts to our customers at their doorsteps in minutes."

So you bring them to your accountant and he scans them? You do around 100 pages every quarter? May I ask where you are living that he needs hardcopy?
Re:Show HN: I made a tool to send a letter now people use it to just p... on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @12:56PM (#43695504)
Haha, that’s a good one! I promise it’s real – otherwise, it would be a very late April Fool’s joke!
Re:Show HN: I made a tool to send a letter now people use it to just p... on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @12:54PM (#43695489)
I already partner with a print company to increase speed and efficiency of the delivery. For now I just keep a minimum fee of 2 for the first page and 0,50 for the other pages. This works fine for now :)
Re:Show HN: I made a tool to send a letter now people use it to just p... on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @12:47PM (#43695398)
Nice! You have a printer yourself?
Re:Show HN: I made a tool to send a letter now people use it to just p... on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @12:46PM (#43695390)
Yes! So my assumption is people don’t have printers anymore and want a easy way to print if they have or want to.

They just add files like a .pdf and let them send to their homes. So they have real physical prints..

Re:Show HN: I made a tool to send a letter now people use it to just p... on Tuesday April 15, 2025 @12:24PM (#43695101)
I made a tool to send letters and now people use it to just print. What was the last thing you printed?
