My use case is I want my child to grow their native vocabulary, eg. when they read books with new words that they don't know. I couldn't seem to be able to pair the languages that way. Is this supported?
may be one way to fight age-ism in the industry

FTA: "So, now I’ll just give my money to Verizon, since I can’t give it to T-Mobile."

This, in the USA, normally comes at the cost of getting a Verizon-compatible device.

Re:How Homejoy (YC S10) Launched in 30 Cities in 6 Months on Thursday May 15, 2014 @02:31PM (#7751289)
tl;dr: I asked homejoy to take my money and they couldn't.

I first learned about Homejoy in October of 2013 and immediately signed up for a recurring cleaning, automatic billing. Almost every time Homejoy called me to reschedule. I only had the same cleaner twice, even though I picked 3 different "preferred" cleaners. Finally, after about 12 cleanings, they didn't show for cleaning 13. Turns out that since October their recurring billing system wasn't actually billing me. So they cancelled my appointment without any notice. I was never told of an accruing balance, even though I spoke to them frequently because they called to reschedule so many times.

Chef is hiring in Seattle WA, anywhere USA and the UK. http://www.getchef.com/careers/
A fairly simple on-the-fly transcoding hack, good job! I bet you're already thinking of exposing (some of) the transcode settings to end users.

I believe the default crashplan setting is 15-minutely. It saved me and my from the described situation many times.

I don't have any stats, but anecdotal evidence suggests that education on the term "hacker" hasn't been very effective, yet.
I just happen to have an extra rPi lying around. Thanks!
Re:Soviet College Admission — My Dad's Story (1970) on Friday March 08, 2013 @04:50AM (#5342694)
My dad had pretty much the same experience. He was not Jewish. He was not Russian (slavic/blond/blue-eyed) either.

Russophilia, xenophobia, cronyism and nepotism were rampant in the former USSR. A "prominent" Muscovite Jew (but otherwise a lousy student) would have been treated better than the most talented Uzbek/Kazakh/Tajik.

Great guide, thanks!

I do this with an old Acer Aspire One.

I wish the author explained some parts a little, like dev tun vs tun0.

Re:Chef 11 released on Sunday February 10, 2013 @04:53PM (#5198093)
I like that chef also knows a whole lot about my nodes, db is searchable and recipes can use search results.

I can do things like: "all my webservers with RAM > N should have different httpd.conf settings"

Very curious to look at your logs. Pastebin?
I'm pretty sure that no legitimate covert service operative would identify themselves as such, nor would they brag about going to conferences.

Re:All Maps in China are Transformed on Sunday October 30, 2011 @09:19AM (#3174298)
i don't think it's unique to China

take a look at this POI on 4sq: http://4sq.com/rArZMj

It starts with a street view. If you zoom in a little, turns out the bar is out in the water! When you switch to Satellite view, the bar is where it is supposed to be, on the shore.
