Re:Update on Taking Tesla Private on Monday August 13, 2018 @09:33AM (#17749913)
I think all the late mishaps have something to do with negotiating down the price for the Saudi Arabians to come onboard.
And I still can't find any advantages (even in the article) except "you have to try it".

For me, if the "digging in" distance and spring-out resistance is satisfactory it's a good keyboard. I only can't stand the laptop flat ones

Are we now accusing Facebook for not having enough censorship power?

Their response to the ordeal is way better than what I would expect, and I blame humanity more than the platform it uses to communicate.

Re:Bitcoin at an all-time high on Wednesday January 04, 2017 @01:45PM (#13320923)
Does this article take into account bitcoins that are in wallets lost forever?

Maybe then just prefer if reachable? Soon enough it's the new standard.
Re:Ask HN: Please add a warrant canary to the footer on Friday November 11, 2016 @10:55AM (#12931734)
That was my first though, and second one was there should be a centralized place for all the warrant canaries with a simple OK/vanished toggle. I have literally never checked the status of a canary.
Re:China Is Making Domain Name History on Monday December 14, 2015 @12:01PM (#10732202)
I suspect the china market is shifting away from having younger people "invest" in the real estate bubble and towards "investing" in domain names..

Oh the poor guys don't know the pour down of all the new TLDs probably...

Maybe that's why they are starting to open up the great firewall. Just to steal all that money once more.

Re:The Marketing Stack of a Lazy SaaS Company on Saturday November 28, 2015 @07:30AM (#10640891)
That's why I have trust issues with marketers. Sometimes they're good at marketing.
Re:Amazon Kind of Sucks and We’ve All Just Come to Accept It on Tuesday November 10, 2015 @12:35PM (#10540804)
Add-on items (https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_... it possible to solve the first part.

Delivery drones (http://www.amazon.com/b?node=8037720011) could make amazon better than actually going out to buy even 1 roll of tape, and returning stuff too.

Nothing wrong with the article itself but hacker news seems to be going south... pun possibly intended
It does one thing better than a password manager: it prevents rainbow attacks via forced localized salting. That's about it... Next HTTP can solve other problems...

Re:Underwater greenhouses are growing strawberries on Sunday July 12, 2015 @07:33AM (#9873151)
You compare apples to oranges.

Octopi would need food to live and that food is a huge cost in resources. Octopi consume a feed that could have been human to begin with. Plants need only water and reused plant material or any other natural fertilizer.

I see it 20 years from now: "Ocean floor crops: Gift or curse? Ocean floor pollution and released nutrients ecosystem problems"
Re:When Is “ACID” ACID? Rarely (2013) on Sunday June 28, 2015 @10:10AM (#9793504)
Wow why does what you say melt and change colors then?... Anyhow, that's what I expected too
Re:Project Seen on Friday June 26, 2015 @07:37AM (#9783615)
Cool! Should be treated more like art than a tool...
Re:Meme generation on Wednesday June 24, 2015 @12:40PM (#9772779)
Can you comment a bit about the expected usage please? For example are you supposed to download and redistribute the images or link directly only? Watermarking? Do you own the rights to the images being used (as per the generated image not original ones)?
Re:7 days to leave Hiveage on Wednesday June 24, 2015 @06:22AM (#9770669)
Yeah, this. Don't let a single client run your business and plan your schedule for you. Booting maybe was too much and was probably an emotional reaction but people make mistakes.
Re:Why Greet Apple's Swift 2.0 With Open Arms? on Thursday June 18, 2015 @05:27AM (#9737551)
"That's already happening with LLVM, anyway; Apple already ships a no-source-available fork of LLVM."

In the old days we used to call this "bait and switch". That being said, I dont necessarily thing it's a bad thing. Corporations don't exist for philanthropy, they are motivated to bring better and viable products to the market.

Re:The Batteriser Explained on Monday June 08, 2015 @11:02AM (#9679515)
What I wanted to read about but couldn't find it was the actual ROI of this product. How many batteries must I use so that it would make financial sense to buy the product? (So that we could compare with actual results and see if they match)
Re:Jump – Experiences like you're actually there on Friday May 29, 2015 @07:11AM (#9623858)
The original commenter actually made the exact distinction between VR (what you linked) and capturing real life video
I still don't understand how this will benefit the internet speed. Don't get me wrong, the built-in CDN (cause that's what this is all about, redistributing data) is kind of good, but would you spend double the money for a router so that it can have a storage device to cache data? Or do you think that your ISP would/should? If so, caching is doable with current infrastructures too, we just don't invest in it...

On the other hand if you were to stream from your neighbours' connections.. Well... That would really require a big advance in current line speeds or it would make everyone DDoSed all the time.

So as I see it no, the IP protocol really isn't the current bottleneck in today's internet usage speeds.

Oh and don't even get me started on device interconnection because it's exactly the same problem but on a different protocol: the problem is how you manage your content (files etc) with software not how it's transported. To move files from a device to the other what's important to develop is better access management (share over 192. ranges, or share on a VPN or share only with a password like ftp etc). A different protocol would only make the respective language's API a bit different, it wouldn't magically create apps and interfaces and systems that would take advantage of it.

Re:Visual Studio Code on Wednesday April 29, 2015 @01:16PM (#9459887)
Wow I'm so exited about this because if this catches on it will be my last reason stopping me from migrating to linux!

I couldn't find any info about it, but anybody knows if it will support importing Asp.Net solutions from VS 2013?

That's actually not true, you are referring to a very bad "cooking" that Samaras presented to Merkel at the fall of '14 which was proved to be too stupid to talk about ever again...
What isn't addressed in this letter and most people don't realize is that the Greek debt as an absolute number isn't that big.

The real problem is that Greece needs more money to continue operation than it produces, and this fact hasn't changed nor will in the near future. Effectively this makes Greece a black hole for incoming money where incoming money have no actual benefit for anyone other than just keep a near-corpse alive for a little more.

If there was a surplus generated every year, the debt amount wouldn't matter as it would be paid off eventually.

The whole point is to get to the state where the economy is healthy as a yearly in/out amount. If that's done there is no reason to get any bigger loans...

Edit: Forgot to add: it's in the greater interest of the eurozone to keep Greece from bankruptcy though, and it's twofold: one is the interconnection of markets, ie Greece IS a buyer, and the second is the geography as Greece is a central node for shipments from the east, has natural gas reserves etc..

Re:Presenting the Most Over-Engineered Blog Ever on Thursday January 15, 2015 @02:51PM (#8894921)
This is very nice! A question though: it does need a knowledge of client state right? How big is that data per session? Is it viable to keep the data on client and send with each request via a cookie so that you don't need more server resources?
Re:Greeks captivated by Alexander-era tomb at Amphipolis on Saturday September 27, 2014 @02:57PM (#8377853)
It is not expected to find Alexander by anyone. It is expected to find an important general or someone close to Alexander though.

The tomb date is greatly varied now, between 100-400BC but before Christmas where excavation will be done to the lower outer part of the tomb it will be possible for a ceramic analysis to be done that will pinpoint the date within 2 years.
