I can supply some hopefully useful anecdata around alternative education styles because my folks were either way ahead of their time or criminally negligent depending on your point of view, for myself I make no judgement.
My brothers and I to varying degrees were brought up in a heavily Holt-influenced (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Holt_(educator)) environment, if there's a catch phrase it would be "unschooling", not to be mistaken with "homeschooling".
On conventional achievement metrics we did just fine, controlled for socio-economic status we were off the charts but that's just a working class family producing kids who score like rich kids.
Twenty years ago I would have argued against either home-schooling or "unschooling": I eventually ran into the junior varsity football team and back-loading that integration was probably a bit abrupt.
But these days the Internet that I love and helped build, social networks that at least at one time were an unambiguous good and some people might argue still are net positive, instant gratification via everything from e-commerce to game microtransactions?
I'd build an igloo on the North Pole before I'd give a seven year old an iPhone. I'm ostensibly an adult and have no excuse because I substantially helped build the fucking thing, but, I can just barely most of the time not let the PhDs who are optimizing it to somehow optimize me take complete control of my life.
Getting bullied in middle school? Not a sufficient reason to give your kids a super weird life story.
Normalizing the whole fucking "influencer" collective mental influence to a child? Yeah, buy a cabin in the woods to skip that one.
