Ask HN: Programmers, how many of you got started tinkering in PC hardware?

It recently occurred to me that all of the programmers I know, almost all of them got their start by tinkering in hardware, pulling apart old computers, etc.Without having done any research on the topic, I'm wondering how many others outside of my personal circle got their start in pulling apart old computers/hardware tinkering etc.I'm growing to suspect, in spite of rapid adoption of more...

Depends, I won't throw dirt around but the old invoicing software I used to use took a (albeit ridiculously small) percentage cut instead of a monthly fee, and the whole platform was entirely free forever.
Thanks, I'm still working on a much better landing / about page... Stay tuned!
None in the pipeline as of yet... But what's your usecase? I might be inspired enough to start something?
Cheers, I'll make some adjustments :) appreciate the feedback!
Not sure if you'll see this, but we just implemented line items on invoices now. If you want to try it out, drop us an email at [email protected] mentioning this conversation and I'll make sure your account has enough invoice limits to try it out!
Thanks for the feedback! Give me a day or two and I'll have something whipped up :)

Reading the mostly positive replies of "Yes, I definitely want to keep doing this well past 50!" gives me manly tears of happiness.

Typical cnet article "INTEL CEO SLAMS WINDOWS 8", and I quote directly from the article:

"... Otellini also said releasing Windows 8 before it's completely ready is the correct decision to help Microsoft and the PC makers compete against Apple during the key holiday season. He added that Microsoft can make changes after Windows 8 ships, the report said."
