Probably Git? You know that's been around much longer than Github has, right.
Re:Follow up to the investigation results on Monday April 28, 2014 @04:22PM (#7662704)
I guess I'm digging myself in a hole here since apparently my opinion isn't very popular. But I just wanted to explain why I said what I did, based on a moment of reflection:

- Founder allegations: sounds like they already came to the conclusion that TPW wasn't acting appropriately, so I'm not sure what the fact that it happened before adds to that.

- Engineer allegations: this is about people other than TPW.

- Github's working environment: Maybe Severini could have added some dishing on TPW, in particular (but not necessarily the company). But given the non-disparagement agreement and the fact that her feelings are apparently general knowledge, was another interview with her really necessary?

As @waterlesscloud says above, I'm wondering, "Is anyone disputing the activities of the Preston-Werners at this point?" The fact that it's happened before is relevant if you want to dish more on TPW's character or the fact that GH made a mistake, both of which have already been done. Adding more at this point is almost sensationalist.

Re:Follow up to the investigation results on Monday April 28, 2014 @04:05PM (#7662582)
This is great and all, but it's something that happened in the past and was settled, so I'm not sure how relevant it was in this case in particular. I think you're blurring a past mistake (this should have raised flags from the beginning) with the current events.
Re:OnePlus One – $299 CyanogenMod 'killer' smartphone on Wednesday April 23, 2014 @10:43PM (#7638244)
Um, the point isn't about photo quality in the comparison. I have to agree that it's confusing, but actually they're trying to highlight the fact that their phone has a wider viewing angle. (If you look, their picture includes more people.)
Re:Show HN: NCurses Terminal Webcam on Wednesday April 23, 2014 @10:27PM (#7638191)
Interesting - I just made something exactly like this (screenshot looks exactly the same): https://github.com/billyeh/termchat! I even had to publish a Node package to do it (pixelr).

Except it's got a chat function with other users as well :)

I love how New York Times has the coolest devs. Anyone here who works there? What's it like?

Ask HN: Does no one else think Chrome's find bar needs more features?

It's always irked me that the find bar in Chrome has no options for case-sensitivity, regexes, etc. It also doesn't reload its matches when the page changes.I understand that at least 80% of the time, the simple find is enough to get by with. But what about the other 20% of the time? To me, this seems like low-hanging fruit that would enhance my experience a lot.I was thinking of writing an...

Re:Show HN: My new JavaScript MVC framework on Wednesday March 19, 2014 @12:01AM (#7426753)
This is some pretty amazing code, actually. An MVC in 400 lines? Awesome. I could learn from this for days, lack of semicolons and one-line loops notwithstanding.
Re:Bringing Peer-to-Peer Streaming to the World. on Thursday February 27, 2014 @06:21PM (#7316009)
This is great, and I'd love using it. What's the (if any) connection with WebRTC? And PPSPP is a pretty unfortunate choice of acronym... A Google search only unearths something about emulating a PlayStation Portable.
Re:Show HN: We just open-sourced a Skype replacement with HTML5 on Saturday February 01, 2014 @02:00AM (#7161097)
It's about time! This Skype is terrible, and WebRTC is amazing.

That sounds great. Bill, wait for money, and return it after the identity is verified?
Re:The Mozilla Developer Network has a New Face on Monday December 09, 2013 @04:41PM (#6877226)
Hmm. Great, looks exactly like something Microsoft might have made a few years ago.
Re:Why Silicon Valley Funds Instagrams, Not Hyperloops on Friday November 15, 2013 @02:28AM (#6738184)
If you think about it, it's amazing what we're valuing at billions of dollars these days. Twitter, $4 billion? That's for a lot of lines of code, and, sure, some server infrastructure, etc. that will be obsolete in the next few years. The same goes for Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, almost any Silicon Valley startup we can name. Just a bunch of lines of code, not really solving any problems. But it makes money, and that's what people care about.
Re:Everpix was great. This is how it died on Wednesday November 06, 2013 @12:27AM (#6680886)
It's incredible to me that an amazing service like this, solving real problems would fail while stupid (let's be honest and call them what they really are) social media startups are prospering all over the place. It's quite sad.
Re:AI Startup Says It Has Defeated Captchas on Monday October 28, 2013 @02:10AM (#6625467)
Not surprised. Not to be cavalier or anything, but I mean, even I was about to start a side-project to solve those things.
I was looking forward to a mathematical proof of how symmetrical cases can be solved, but I was surprised to find that they basically brute-forced it with a computer. I'd learned about how much controversy that approach generated with the Four Color Theorem, but I'm impressed with how much proofs have moved forward since then.
Re:SQL Fiddle on Wednesday October 09, 2013 @11:01PM (#6525419)
There clearly was some sarcasm involved in that post.

There are tons of good explanations of why a stacktrace is a security risk. See, for example, this article that appeared on HN: http://www.troyhunt.com/2013/07/everything-you-wanted-to-kno...

Nice. I kind of like "news that matters" better than "news that matter," though.
Re:An Aberrational Way to Learn a Language on Tuesday October 01, 2013 @01:25AM (#6474279)
I totally get what you're saying!! :) Thought it was just me who abnormally remembered where stuff is on pages.
Re:Free HTML Starter Templates for Bootstrap on Sunday September 29, 2013 @03:58PM (#6466294)
I'm not really seeing the point of this per se. Bootstrapping something that's already called Bootstrap? And then having to bootstrap that to make it unique?
Re:Git concepts simplified on Thursday September 26, 2013 @11:49AM (#6451540)

It's indisputably obvious how much better the iPhone screen is than other platforms. How is, for example, the difference in menu scrolling not apparent? I can't believe we needed a study to realize that. And this is coming from someone who's never had an iDevice in his life, just Android and Windows.
Re:A Cheap Spying Tool With a High Creepy Factor on Saturday August 03, 2013 @08:46PM (#6154044)
Definitely not even necessary to buy all that equipment. My friend and I do this with Wireshark on his laptop all the time.
All of the comments here hating on the "only 10 photos on Apple" seem pretty ridiculous to me. Clearly, the author chose a theme for today and will add more non-Apple photos later.

Then again, the OP did release it right at the start, before it'll be useful to anyone, so I'm surprised it's hit the #1 spot.

Even if you do keep this pace, you'll have a grand total of 365 pictures after a year, covering something like 36 topics. Not exactly ground-breaking. It would be great if you could crowd-source and curate the best pictures.

The creator was being facetious and the fabrications were meant to be obvious enough that no one would take them seriously, right?
Awesome app.

Small thing, though - on the homepage, kind of think that when I click play on the video, it should play. Right now, it just sends me to the video, and I have to click play on the bottom left again.

Should be pretty easy to change the embed settings on the Vimeo. I had that on my website too.
