I think the distinction is that hallucinations are incorrect. You can be super creative building a new chair, but if you can’t sit in it, it’s not a chair.

My guess is the ROI is provided by people giving up before they actually get help from a human.

I agree with your assessment here, but one additional benefit is the capability to iterate faster on the backend. You have control over _where_ the aggregated data is coming from without waiting months for users to update their mobile app so that it sends requests to a new service, for example.

Lots of countries in South America also have socialized healthcare and it’s terrible. The question is, “Is America’s competency with government programs more similar to South America or Europe?”

ACLU is a shadow of what it once was. Their unprincipled wavering on free speech ensures that I will not be donating to them. I would, however, love some new recommendations for where those donations can go.

I agree with everything you’re saying here. But I would not want to be the poor sap that paid $625k to live in a place like that. Those prices are insane.
Re:Why do so many bikes end up underwater?

I was in Amsterdam walking down the street one night and saw a bike just fall into a canal. No one was around except my wife and I. So at least one ended up in the water because someone poorly positioned it against the railing.

Re:Boston Dynamics’ Stretch robot can move 800 heavy boxes per hour

I used to work at a factory that was doing this (loading the trucks for shipping with a robot). It took much longer to implement than expected, but eventually worked pretty well. In the beginning, we would test by driving the loaded truck on a typical route and then checking the contents. The first few times were a disaster with boxes thrown all over the trailer. It was very cool to watch the robot work.

This is not accurate and seems to be a rumor generated by a list of defendants in a previous civil case against Epstein’s “The 1953 Trust.” There were nearly 40 named defendants including Kanye West and The Disney Corporation. This case was thrown out as frivolous because the plaintiff’s timeline of events didn’t match up with reality.
It took me about 5 minutes to search and find this information, but if you have conflicting sources I would be interested.

I think there has to be some kind of subjective measure in the hiring process. Two people could have similarly excellent credentials and experience, but one may have terrible social/communication skills that are likely not reflected in their resume. I’ve seen several people say that screening for “culture fit” just introduces bias in the process, which is likely true, but I don’t think that negates the reality of some people just not being good fits for certain teams.
I agree that a blind-as-possible hiring process is probably the most fair, but I have doubts that it actually leads to the best hiring decisions. Although, quotas are fair to no one, in my opinion.

What do you mean by "distributed" book collection?
Re:Fun Yet Effective Meetings

I see the note at the top of the post that it's meant to be extreme and satirical, but a lot of people actually try to substitute Slack for a meeting or quick zoom call and I think it's incredibly counter productive. The efficiency of verbal communication should be prioritized any time a Slack thread goes beyond ~10 replies. Slack is where work goes to die; not meetings.

I've been using openapi/swagger for generating my clients and honestly think it creates a mess of files and manually keeping clients up to date is not a huge task. I'm not sure that I buy into "your client libraries should be generated automatically" as a blanket statement.
