This is the same thing China is doing, except China is also lying about it and saying they have "contained" it with extreme quarantine, in part to trick other nations into doing the same thing to tank their economies while China is going back to work and letting the virus spread.
Good for UK to step up amidst hysteria. Hopefully other democratic nations will follow suit.
Do you have a source for that?
This article does explicitly discuss pre-symptomatic transmission, specifically it being worse than SARS but better than flu in that regard.

There's no shortage of test kits, there's a shortage of PCR lab capacity to process those samples.
Masks and ventilators would be a good thing to donate though.
Better yet, teach elders how to buy groceries online.
What's wrong with having a public / private partnership?
He misread it, watch the video.
1. Tell the labs to report COVID19 cases as "seasonal flu"
2. Stop reporting cases to unblock quarantine and travel restrictions
3. Economy back to work while rest of the world is trying to quarantine
4. Virus runs a course through the whole country and kills 30 million "expensive" old people with comorbidities, yielding a huge win against a long-term existential threat associated with ageing population.
Win-win for CCP, as far as they are concerned.

If I'm a poor student without a place to go I can imagine being quarantined in your dorm room with WiFi is not so bad at all.
CDC should require every lab and hospital screening for COVID19 to send lung CT and lab data to the government, and release it as a public dataset for AI developers to build screening models.
> I am not sure I understand why this is a win for Uber drivers(genuine question).
It's not meant to be a win for Uber drivers. It's meant to be a win for taxi companies.
I propose a simple Constitutional Amendment that will fix all problems in the USA:
All Rent Seeking Is Hereby Prohibited.
The End.
> The proper way to make things fair is to tax landlords on the land value of their properties. They are the ones pulling in all the unearned income in high cost areas.
Bernie owns 3 houses, he will never support land value tax. Almost all progressive Berniecrats in Bay Area are NIMBYs [1].
Bernie is right about healthcare, but he is wrong about virtually everything else, in my opinion.

I'm expecting a cancellation announcement for SXSW in the next days.
Time to sit and home and play some Civ 6 until it blows over.
97% of cases have been in China so far.
Why is everything happening in Bay Area? Do local official ignore CDC protocols to spite Trump?
> If you want to start a company working on a better way to build homes, gene editing, artificial general intelligence, a new education system, or carbon sequestration, you may actually be able to get it funded
One of those is not like the others.
Check out Alto Pharmacy. I used them in SF, smooth service.
Government doesn't provide service directly almost anywhere else in the developed world. Especially the services Walmart is targeting (optometry, dental cleaning, etc).
Universal coverage doesn't mean government employs every provider directly.
Presumption of innocence is something any defendant has in a fair trial.
Can you give an example of a success story from the recent 5 years? I'm not talking about the Harvey Milk days of California.
Thanks for the reply. I'm all for cracking down on abuse, especially when it's state-sponsored. And I understand moderator has more context than users.
I just wanted to point out how from an outsider perspective it looks like a bias, especially given that HN always seems to have an overwhelming amount of anti-Google content compared to other media sources (not that Google shouldn't be scrutinized - it should be).
This makes it seem like you're banning him for supporting his company with a valid argument, and not for creating multiple accounts.
The former would constitute a moderator bias against Google (examples of moderation going the opposite way don't change anything about this particular instance), while the latter would be actual abuse. Although seems like creating multiple accounts doesn't lead to an automatic ban in every single instance, meaning latter is unlikely to be the case here.
Astroturfing would imply that he has a business motive while trying to conceal it as a grassroots comment. Purely from the content of his comment it doesn't seem like that's the case.
> there isn’t much difference between the two
Can you post a link to RCT-based evidence backing this claim? I don't see anything on CDC website or any professional medical organization about Facebook being as harmful as cigarettes.
