Hi, I have ordered in the past from JLC3dp[1] both metal printed parts and aluminum anodized CNC machined parts. I was happy with the quality and the pricing was a lot better than my local CNC companies.

Re:Ask HN: What are your best and safest investment options? on Monday December 26, 2022 @06:23AM (#34136750)
Start from investing every month set amount of money into ETFs.

As you are from Europe, one of the best to start, would be Vanguard FTSE All-World ETF, or in short WVCE. I am mostly investing into it for my retirement.

If you want to feel the market more, you can buy some individual stocks, starting from blue chip ones, or if you want to gamble a bit more, you can take a look at crypto or small cap stocks.

As for platforms/brokers, there are couple of most popular in Europe: Degiro or IBKR. I myself use IBKR for stocks and ETFs.

Re:Ask HN: What desktop to buy for home based AI/ML in 2023 on Thursday December 22, 2022 @03:41PM (#34098356)
I would pick AMD Ryzen CPU and any Nvidia GPU with more ram.

If budget allows, I would pick RTX3090, if budget is too tight, look at RTX3080 or RTX3080Ti 12 Gb vram models. 10 gb vram models can be too small in the future or if you plan to use it for image processing.

I also am working mainly with image processing and segmentation, we mainly use RTX3080 and RTX3080Ti GPUs.

Have you thought about using Paddle? It takes both PayPal and CC. Also takes care of the taxes.

P.S. Could you tell me more about your trading startup? Any links to check out?

Re:Show HN: Pynecone – Web Apps in Pure Python on Friday December 09, 2022 @02:26PM (#33925474)
I will love to try it out!

How does it compare to Flask framework?

Love the idea! Would love to try it out, but it seems it is not available in Europe.

Is there any plans in the near future to open in other regions?

Re:Ask HN: How to save/invest/deal with money? on Saturday November 19, 2022 @03:46PM (#33674483)
Hi,

I also live in Europe. Here some quick suggestions from person who is quite interested in trading and investing:

1. Save few months of cash reserves to have freedom if things goes south.

2. Start reading about investing and ETFs and Indexes.

3. Start invest in small sums in ETFs and or Bonds. There are two ways:

3.1. If you want to transfer and forget, you can try some of the RoboAdvisors, which will buy ETFs/Bonds for you with assigned percentage. I personally use ETFMatic [1] for couple of years without any issues.

3.2. If you want to buy ETFs by yourself, you can open brokerage account. As I read that you are from Europe, we mostly use Degiro [2] or IBKR [3] here. I use IBKR personally. You will be safer with ETFs, rather than single stocks. One of the recommended ETFs, would be VWCE, which Tin short - tracks World economy. As my colleagues say, VWCE and Chill.

4. Try to avoid single stocks, crypto and investment gurus and get rich quick schemes.

5. Happy and safe investing!

You can find more information about European ETFs on justetf.com [4]

Re:Ask HN: How do I get into robotics? on Saturday November 19, 2022 @03:12PM (#33674128)
One of the first projects I would start is look for Arduino related projects and other small hardware projects. Its best for cheap and simple electronics understanding. Learn how to use different sensors, modules or controllers.

After some time, you can take a look at more serious projects, such as robot-spiders, or robots manipulators.

Might you also be interested in buying cheap 3D printer, to make the parts such as gears or cases for your hardware projects.

After you are quite comfortable with electronics and hardware, you can make your own 3D printed robot, such as CM6 - Compliant 3D printed robotic arm [1] or WE-R2.4 Six-Axis Robot Arm [2].

Happy building!

Re:Over 16,000 people still use a Pebble smartwatch on Saturday November 05, 2022 @06:27AM (#33480007)
Mine broke same as yours. I was in a bath and the face fell off. Drying did not help. I had it over 2 years. RIP Amazfit.
Re:Over 16,000 people still use a Pebble smartwatch on Thursday November 03, 2022 @10:09AM (#33451241)
I was quite a fan of Pebble, but was not able to get it when it launched.

I had Amazfit Bip for multiple years until it finally broke.

After trying Android Wear, battery life if very bad, I am looking for alternatives.

Is there any modern alternative to Pebble with all basic functions, such as eink display, battery life, notifications or call muting, but it also could reply to messages/notifications?

Re:Stripe Announces 14% Layoff on Thursday November 03, 2022 @09:59AM (#33451083)
As it is sad news for those who have been impacted, severance packages seems quite generous, with 14 weeks of pay and vesting acceleration.
Re:Playstation VR2 launches on February 22nd for $549.99 on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @02:47PM (#33440974)
I have played a multiple times with a PSVR1, and in my opinion, it was one of the best optimized VR systems I have tried. Everything felt smooth, fully optimized, did not feel dizzy. The low resolution was the problem for me, I really loved it. Now waiting to test out PSVR2 when it launches.
Re:Charts.css: CSS data visualization framework on Sunday October 30, 2022 @11:43AM (#33395419)
Has anyone implemented it in their projects?

So far we have been using charts.js for most of the tasks, might want to update to something new in the future? Might this be an option?

Re:Ask HN: What cloud platform should a Python developer learn? on Thursday October 27, 2022 @12:39PM (#33360208)
What about fly.io? Since Heroku discontinued its Free tier, lots of people praise it for its simplicity.

As a person, who played quite a bit with Digital Ocean and would have loved to skip the server setuping, I think it would be perfect for my future projects as well.

Re:ReMarkable 2 on Thursday October 27, 2022 @07:44AM (#33356126)
Personally as a paper gperson, who loves to write on sheets any quick thoughts, TODO lists and anything that comes to my mind, it seemed a very good choice, but pricing now seems quite high. I have tried multiple online tools, but I do not like the feel.

After reading multiple real user comments, I do not think I still want to buy it. Does anyone know any other good alternatives for paper notes?

I see multiple people recommending cheap LCD panels, is there any cheaper or simpler e-paper note takers but with multiple notes features?

Re:Ask HN: What are the big success stories of AI/ML so far? on Saturday October 22, 2022 @05:18AM (#33296729)
In my opinion, computer vision had many successful uses of AI/ML models. Object detection, segmentation, there are multiple uses in medical image processing.

As I am from manufacturing side, object detection and segmentation models changed product quality inspection for good.

Now multiple cameras with trained models can find defects on any surface or part as small as it can get, before it was multiple operators looking at moving parts 8 to 12 hours a day which was very tiring and repetitive job to do.

Re:Zed Shaw Explains How Stripe Is PayPal Circa 2010 on Sunday October 09, 2022 @02:26PM (#33143904)
Has anyone tried Paddle[1] both by integration and customer support?

I have been looking at it for my future projects for quite some time.

Fees seems to be a bit higher, but it also has both CC and PayPal integrations and can take care of the taxes.

Re:Ask HN: Is Substack the New Medium? on Sunday October 09, 2022 @03:07AM (#33138831)
I liked Medium from the beginning, when it launched, it was one of my favorite platforms to read, lots of great articles, always found something new to read in the tech or crypto space, but as the time has passed articles became worse and worse, lots of paywalls, some interesting authors stopped posting and I left it. I can't even remember when I last logged in there.
