I built a macOS menubar app that just... pings: https://github.com/attheodo/Pingu

Re:Ask HN: What accomplishment are you most proud of? on Saturday April 18, 2015 @11:23AM (#9399737)
I managed to tell my dad how good of a father he was to me and how much I appreciated everything he gave me and taught me... one day before he passed away. An honest deposit like this isn't as easy as it sounds.
UI looks promising but unfortunately performance was sluggish. Will have it under my radar for future, for now sticking to pgcommander.
Don't think too far. Find a problem of your own, your family or friends and try to solve it. Best chance is that if you have it, someone else might have it too.

Some people find it too academic but it covers pretty much all of the essentials of strategy and business policy practices.

Re:Ask HN: Advice on how to best spend $3,000 on Sunday June 16, 2013 @05:29PM (#5890075)
You paid over $4k for a logo and you don't know what to do with $3k? Oh boy.. I'd say spend them all on a bullish equity and get a good ol' day job
Re:Simple Universal Time on Saturday June 01, 2013 @05:22AM (#5803358)
Is it only me or this sounds like a terrible idea? Maybe it will eventually be more productive but during the transition phase, there'll be mayhem. Not to mention all the unusable clocks, hardware etc that'll have to be completely scraped.
Instagram's and AirBnb's are some of the good ones..

If you want my humble opinion my friend, you're pretty much fine. Your addiction is quite bearable and you seem to have a pretty structured routine which is a luxury for most of people. Maybe get some more exercice and relax... everyone goes through some bad times every once in a while. Keep calm and keep hustling... everything is fine..
Re:Looking for Testers for a New Bookmarking Service Idea on Friday April 05, 2013 @11:42AM (#5499074)
Hey, looks like a good approach on a problem indeed. One tip though... try to eliminate at least half of the copy in your landing page. Add more bold headlines and limit the paragraphs to 2-3 lines max.

Mobile backends is definitely a hot topic nowadays and this is one of the greatest contributions. A small part of me wishes it was a more "Pythonic" though.. :)
Re:Is Facebook testing a new Tab Bar UI for its iOS app? on Saturday March 30, 2013 @08:47AM (#5465243)
Highly unlikely. How did you manage to get this screenshot if not made-up in the first place?
Re:Why aren't you commenting your code? on Monday March 25, 2013 @10:35AM (#5437150)
As mentioned in Clean Code, beautifully and concisely code doesn't need much of commenting. It's pretty much self-explained.
Re:Ask HN: What is a "developer evangelist"? on Saturday March 23, 2013 @10:17AM (#5428189)
e·van·ge·list: A person who seeks to convert others to the Christian faith, esp. by preaching.

Where "Christian" you can put whichever company grows along with it's API/code/lib usage and utilization by others.

As I see it it's a purely "hype" role and it's essentially a tech-aware marketeer seeking to attract fellow developers and engineers to work and experiment with his company's platform and products.

If it should be "simple" and internal, no it wouldn't fit well. I wouldn't recommend it for any type of in-app communication actually. Depending on the architecture of the app you're about to build I pretty sure there are tons of more reliable and scalable solutions.
Re:Ask HN: how did you learn the command line? on Sunday March 10, 2013 @05:13PM (#5353482)
Ultimately, the best and proper way to be a console master is to install a Unix distribution on your one and only everyday machine and avoid any sorts of X or Window manager at all.
