Re:Deno Is Joining Cloudflare on Friday October 09, 2026 @01:35PM (#50023986)
I'm trying to understand this. Cloudflare wants the people to work on different priorities or cloudflare wants deno to die?

In the case of the latter, I'm wondering why. Most of cloudflares architecture like workers support js runtimes so wouldnt investment into deno be more strategic than other priorities

Does it resume automatically on higher subscriptions?

I'm on a $20 plan and it never auto resumes. I have to go back in and type out resume or click a button.

This.
As someone who is just looking at the theoretical benchmarks of each of these models I'm curious if anyone could share what are the problems (maybe around code) that flash-next was able to solve which 27b was not able to
I believe this is what Meta is doing as they started recording their SWE screens some time ago.
So if I have to set this up on my 24GB MBP what'd the right configuration and tuning look like?

I've been writing CSS since IE 6 and I can tell you not a lot of us oldies like tailwind. I've only seen a strong inclination towards Tailwind from the newer generation frontends (2015 and beyond)

Us oldies actually prefer BEM over anything else.

My talking point is based off internal comms from a large'ish company (200+ FE devs) so YMMV

Re:US gas prices hit an average of $4 a gallon again on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @02:41PM (#49011440)
Brother, I live in Austin. It's 40C outside and my kids are very young.

We do have bike paths over that routes but it's just not safe for my kids yet. The road they need to bike along allows up to 65mph.

In the Netherlands I just had to cross a 30km/h road (down to 20km during school hours and pedestrians always get first preference) to drop them. Netherlands is just too satisfactorily safe ♥

Re:US gas prices hit an average of $4 a gallon again on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @02:36PM (#49011380)
Hahahaha no, its a 2019 CR-V. I explained it in another comment. Maybe it has to do with that journey specifically?
Re:US gas prices hit an average of $4 a gallon again on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @02:35PM (#49011358)
You're right. One of my friends in the Netherlands does has a 3 hour total commute over the day. It's insane.
Re:US gas prices hit an average of $4 a gallon again on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @02:34PM (#49011340)
2019 CR-V

I can squeeze up to 40mpg on interstate if I drive slow (under 65mph) and it's typically about 20-25mpg within the city but the ride for School specifically, I'm not sure what's going on there.

Maybe its not truly 1 full gallon so not 12mpg but a little over that like ~18mpg.

Friend works for Google vendor who generates data for training. His team alone is 200 people (in US).

He says there are many similar vendors and teams with thousands of people in India and other countries.

Re:US gas prices hit an average of $4 a gallon again on Monday July 20, 2026 @05:37AM (#48976382)
It's cheap but you also travel a lot in the US. Specially in the southern states because everything is so far.

Anecdotal reference, my children's school is roughly 3 miles, so I spend a gallon of gas every day with 2 round-trips.

That number was zero in Netherlands because all schools are either walkable or bike able.

Supermarkets and restaurants are 5 miles away easily.

Heck, my neighbor (door to door) is 0.4 miles.

Just to add context those are just dumb lamps and I acknowledge that the product here has a lot more features including IoT support and the ability to change Hue.

Is it the ability to change Hue that makes this expensive?

For someone who has no idea about light engineering or electronics if I stack two 25k Lm lamps next to each other does it make 50k Lm light?

I recently changed my car's headlamps to Chinese LED which claims to be about 37kLm and I don't know how much it is probably less than that.

Two of those lamps costee me around $24 on Amazon US (pretty sure under $10 in China).

What makes this $800+ ?

Hi, I'm currently a Senior Engineering Manager leading 5 teams (4 managers & 40 people) and looking for my next challenge in the US (GC). I have leadership experience that includes both people and product side and I'm very strong in system design, databases & microservices. My ideal role could be a mix of responsibilities between 50% people/product management & 50% technical (architecture & hands-on coding) but I'm open for anything between 100% management to 100% individual contribution

Also, happy to discuss any kind of roles (full time, c2c, w2, remote/hybrid/onsite) and can start by March 1st 2025.

Sorry, I never got a notification of your response but, Bingo! It's the same idea! We actually do restaurants as well! I'm using OSM at the moment, so you can technically rate and review any feature that exists on OSM.

Although there is still a little bit of AI in one portion of the app because that's how we started, our recent pivot has been focused on social mapping and review features.

Ask HN: Navigating AI Tooling Choices

I'm currently using ChatGPT Plus and developing with GPT-4o-mini (Continue for VS Code), which costs me around $25 a month. However, I'm considering switching to Claude, as I'm aware that AI tools can evolve rapidly, and ChatGPT might improve again in the future.I'm also frustrated with the cumulative costs of AI tools — $20 for Cursor, $20 for the GPT API, and $20 for ChatGPT.Are there any...

Re:Ask HN: How IO Works? on Tuesday August 20, 2024 @06:16PM (#41304662)
Thanks. What sparked my curiosity is while I'm writing code even a small mistake in the most simple programs can cost me tens or hundreds of milliseconds whereas behind a simple flushing to disk command there is so much happening at so many layers all in sub-millisecond or at most in a couple of seconds.
