OT but I would love to see your terrarium build!

This is great, but what dj software do you use that supports this format? Mixxx would be the obvious first candidate I guess.

And what are the chances that one of the big names (primarily Pioneer) take up something like that?

I think people actually do though? They are even sabotaged at times (has happened in Europe at least), to protest against their water usage.

I’ve been using EveryDoor so far, excited about trying this one out!
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026) on Monday September 14, 2026 @05:11PM (#49704088)
Interesting, what’s the use case for this?
Care to expand?

If it’s touched by Tobias Lütke, I’m out.
If we’re talking about mass seasonal exodus, then this is an entirely recent phenomenon in southern Europe, post-WW2. So depends on OP’s definition of “old-school”.
That’s amazing and inspiring! Does it look like what’s described here? https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/2025/06/dressing-and-undre...
Nice!

Would be really nice to have links to director's picks. Eg I clicked on Che, saw that it was in Denis Villeneuve's list, and wanted to check out his other picks.

Genuinely?

What is the most interesting part of what happens?

I find your line of thought interesting but I’m not sure where you’re leading it.

Yeah, this seems like a textbook case where one could apply Jevons Paradox.
> Also avoid their object store.

Curious as to why you say this. I’m using litestream to backup to Hetzner object storage, and it’s been working well so far.

I guess itt’s probably more expensive than just a storage box?

Not sure but I also don’t have to set up cron jobs and the like.

Is a framework desktop with >48GB of RAM a good machine to try this out?

Nix is definitely taking off though ;)
For me it’s org-mode. Although now that I think of it, there’s a Neovim implementation I’ve been meaning to try.

And so it begins.
Re:The engine of Germany's wealth is blocking its future on Monday March 09, 2026 @12:12PM (#47310988)
I'm curious, what do you think the future of the car industry is, then?
Have you tried it? I’ve been meaning to.

Do you have some links?

Also I assume the privacy implications are vastly different compared to running locally?

The ideas in the update were previously explored by Gwern 2 years ago: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/PQaZiATafCh7n5Luf/gwern-s-sh...
Isn’t the linked article claiming that SM is superior to FSRS?

I think you’re wrong, especially if you consider more the just carbon (eg land use, deforestation, …) https://woods.stanford.edu/news/meats-environmental-impact
> On its stern, researchers were shocked to find extensive remains of a castle, a kind of covered deck where the crew would have sought shelter. Records show that castles were distinctive features of medieval cogs, but no physical evidence of them had previously been identified.

I suppose this explains why the thing that exists on more modern ships is called a “forecastle”.

PS go check the pronunciation for that word as it’s quite surprising.

Really happy about how things are going for you, and the positive impact this is having on your family!

It’s good to get some good news sometimes. Thanks for that :)
