Re:Why Washing Machines Suck on Tuesday November 24, 2009 @07:03PM (#960271)
Thanks for the link on the washing machine patents, I'm going to add that to the post. And I was actually going to mention the Dyson, until I saw that they had been discontinued due to lack of profitability.

From that review: "Unfortunately, although Dyson announced plans to bring another Dyson washing machine out, for the moment, the Dyson washing machine is no longer being made in the UK (although you will still be able to get them repaired)"

I didn't click on your link, but that looks like a good alternative to using a standard washing machine.

I know you're being facetious, but I'd argue that's exactly the type of problem that we should look at solving. And admittedly there was a ton of hand waving around my potential solution, but ultrasonic cleaning techniques have been around for years, it's not impossible to think that the techniques could be applied to clothing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrasonic_cleaner).

Maybe the nanobots were a bit out there, though. :)

Nice, I've been doing the same for the past few years on my blog (http://astartupaday.com) as well. Definitely a good way to get some creative ideas flowing and to get the bad ones out of your head as quickly as possible.

This is a hot space, note that Gartner just released a list of the top 10 consumer mobile applications for 2012 and Money Transfer via SMS is #1: http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1230413

My bad. I meant that the idea was fully-formed, not the startup. Fully agree that it's just some random thoughts.
Re:CrunchPad dead? Delayed by higher-than-expected costs? on Wednesday November 04, 2009 @02:13PM (#922367)
"And if it's going to cost $600 or $700 for a CrunchPad, which only supports Web surfing, it's going to be tricky to compete with better devices from tech giants that cost just a few hundred dollars more. (For instance, the forthcoming Apple tablet, which could cost less than $1,000.)"

Wow, they're speculating on a potential price, and then proceed to denounce said price based on a speculation of a price of a product that has yet to be announced?

This actually might be a hit as a simple little Facebook app or something.

Re:Ask HN: Who is looking for a co-founder? on Thursday August 20, 2009 @07:58PM (#776676)
Earlier this week I kicked off Italian Graffiti Factory, which is an overly-pretentious name for a site that is focused on bringing together co-founders and helping them to get and stay motivated. For the alpha stage, the site is going to be very specifically focused on helping co-founders to come together to build a prototype and submit a killer application for YC Winter 2010.

If you're interested, you can check it out here: http://www.igfactory.com

Re:Looking for a cofounder on Wednesday August 19, 2009 @08:05PM (#774135)
Hi Jason - I'm putting together an online site that is specifically geared towards helping to bring together co-founders who are looking to apply to YC - Winter 2010. It's called the Italian Graffiti Factory (http://www.igfactory.com), and although we launched yesterday I know of at least one person who is looking for co-founders in the Bay Area. If you're around tonight, we'll be doing an online meetup at 7pm PST, more details about that are on the site.
Already did, looking forward to checking it out soon.
Awesome, checking it out right now. The primary reason for putting this together is to scratch my own itch, so this sounds very interesting to me.
Strange, I just tried to register as as new user and the only options were for username, password, and birthday. I think b-day is mandatory for legal reasons around online child protection laws.
Yep, it's a Ning thing. I'll see if I can cut out some of the signup options, thanks for the feedback.

EDIT: Just removed b-day, gender, and location. Thanks again, sorry for the poor 1st impression.

Thanks for the feedback. I think of this less as a "dating site", but more of a filter to help bring together like-minded people who are interested in accomplishing the same or similar goals. Similar to how gdgt brings people together based on the gadgets they own/want, I'd like to bring people together based on ideas they have. Things like the speed-dating stuff would just be ways to accelerate some of those connections that would have eventually happened organically.

And yes, Ning is not ideal. But for now, I want to put the maximum effort on having great conversations and getting the right people together rather than having the best technological solution. Depending on the feedback I get and the needs of the users, moving off Ning could definitely be a future move.

Ask HN: Review IGF, a site to find co-founders and stay motivated

Last year when pg posted his list of 30 ideas, I wrote up full startup ideas for each one on my A Startup A Day blog, one each day for the next 30 days. It was a fun exercise, but thanks in part to some great comments on HN, I learned that for most entrepreneurs ideas are the easy part. The hard parts are meeting the right co-founders and staying motivated to work on something for an extended...
