Re:Don't fall into the anti-AI hype on Sunday January 11, 2026 @06:28AM (#46574671)
Exactly, their issue was about a drop in visits to their documentation site where they promote their paid products. If they were making money from usage, their business could really thrive with LLMs recommending Tailwind by default
One of the important keys in learning is engagement. If you frustrate the student preventing them from progressing at their own rhythm they will disengage, losing interest in what you are teaching.
The reasoning option was good for this. It used to tell you the motivations of the LLM to say what it said: "the user is expressing concern about X topic, I have to address this with compassion..."
I usually ask it to challenge its last response when it acts too agreeable.
Is it because of chat memory? ChatGPT has never acted like that for me.
Legacy code, files with thousands of lines, lack of separation of concern... When I feed that to an LLM it says something like:

function bar() { // Add the rest of your code here }

And barely manages to grasp what's going on.

> Who is claiming that using a streaming site is piracy? No one is saying that lol

literally OP:

> "watch free movies online" and find a site streaming bad DVD rips

Um... no? Maybe that's true for English speakers (I'm not a native speaker, so I won't make assumptions), but thinking that Western society views it that way is a big stretch, especially with streaming sites. While some might admit to watching something on a pirate site, many people don't refer to it as piracy when they're using a streaming service.
The choice of an individual to skip an advertisement has minimal impact on the content creator or the platform. This person isn't accountable for the decisions of others regarding whether they watch the ad or not. Ultimately, their actions only affect themselves and do not influence anyone involved in the advertisement process.
Generally accepted by whom? There are many countries that only consider distribution illegal so I don't think it's generally accepted at all.
Many people used to go to the bathroom during commercial breaks while watching a movie on TV. Was that considered piracy? Was it immoral?
I would take that deal without even thinking about it. Heck, I would take it even if it was for only 100 years. Keeping the energy of a body in its twenties, not risking illnesses like Alzheimer's, dementia, a fragile body that can break at any time for the cost of working 8 hours a day (which we are already doing)? Tell me where to sign it.
Re:SQL Design Patterns on Sunday August 31, 2025 @03:29AM (#45081149)
I had a teacher who had specific rules for exams when we wrote SQL statements:

- For a question worth 2 points, if you use the word "DISTINCT" when it wasn't needed, you lose 0.5 points.

- If you don't use "DISTINCT" when it was necessary, you lose all 2 points.

And let's not forget that people call "art" to more things than the popular masterpieces. A guy sold an invisible sculpture¹ clamming it was art. If things like this can be called art, whatever AI makes can be called art too.

How is it possible that this app is still in Google and Apple stores? Doesn't it violate their terms and conditions?
I tried the same prompt changing the gender and it suggested the same amount...
How would a policy for this only affect EU games? EU has other policies that affect Apple, Microsoft, Google etc. as far as I know, any company that wants to sell/offer a service in EU will need to comply with its policies.

Re:Why do people still use VBA? on Wednesday November 15, 2023 @02:49AM (#38274296)
JS Add-ins are way limited than VSTO Add-ins. With the former you are limited to a side panel and add buttons to a specific section in the ribbon while with the VSTO you can even customize views with region forms.

A colony in Mars opens the door to improving space travelling which at the same time opens the door to explore other planets. In a distant future humanity may be able to visit other solar systems and who knows, maybe find other species out there.

> backend migration

That's cute. I'm in the middle of a migration of a vb6 app, no separation of concerns, database access from the app, no tests, no documentation, no code homogenisation, tons of function calls that end up in an empty string and with MS threatening to end vb6 support just around the corner.

Ask HN: How do you handle 2FA with your OV certificate in a USB stick

> Starting June 1, 2023, both EV and OV code signing certificates require two-factor authentication. They may be shipped on an encrypted USB hardware token. Before this we had an automated process for signing but now the use of the USB and 2FA completely disrupted our process. I guess more companies are facing this issue as well so I'm wondering what are the common practices out there if...

Re:A TLS 1.3 Stack Written in Visual Basic 6 on Wednesday May 10, 2023 @03:00AM (#35884513)
At work we created a vscode extension to use VB6. It's not a language server because it would need to interpret the syntax and all that but helps handling multiple projects, automatically cleaning registrations, checking vbp references and dependencies, etc.

Ask HN: Subtitles with Accumulated Time Error

I wanted to add subtitles to an old movie that I have but I only found the Blu-ray version of the subtitles. I thought it would be okay, I would only need to shift all the subtitles a specific amount of time to resync them. But to my surprise, as long as the video progressed, the subtitles were more and more delayed. I can't grasp why this is happening because to my understanding, the time...

Re:GitHub staff are required to use Teams by Sep 1, 2023 on Monday February 13, 2023 @01:52PM (#34778267)
Using it on the browser:

- it's wonky

- 1 on 1 calls not always share the screen and I need to hang up, refresh the browser and call again

- translation stopped working both ways. Once a text is translated it doesn't go back to its original language

- it's a mess if you make a lot of group calls with different people. You end up having trillions of opened chat. I ended up pinning the main ones to keep them at the top and ignore the rest.

- code snippets are just awful. They are a box inside of a box and you always need to click on expand to see the code.

- music when you are on hold can't be stopped which can make you crazy. I always hang up or mute the tab

- group video calls don't have an option to see everybody in the same screen. Now it's like divided in pages

And I could go on and on. Discord is thousands of times better than this.

Re:Ask HN: Why Did Medium.com “Fail"? on Saturday February 11, 2023 @03:50AM (#34750694)
Same feeling here. There was a time in which it was pleasant to read an article in medium but not anymore and they made the experience so awful that I'm not willing to give them any more chances to improve. And reading the CEO here it seems they aren't even aware what the real problems are.
