They had a sneaky download button to download some adware vs the download link to the actual software you wanted in the first place. Easy to confuse the two.
Archive, I think you mean achieve?

Re:Canada is the leader in the size of seed stage deals on Monday August 24, 2020 @03:56AM (#24258375)
Can someone validate this source? A Canadian here trying to raise money has been much harder than the USA. I haven't seen deals or valuations anywhere what the graphs imply. Plus it says per project US but lists the amount in Euros....

Ask HN: Turnkey SAAS solutions

Does anyone know of a Turnkey SAAS solution for AWS/Azure? Here is what I'm looking for: something that handles user registration, OAUTH , billing (supporting multiple options), Tiered pricing and dashboard. It seems that such a thing would exist be by now... So something more than a themeforest template. Something that's a one time purchase vs monthly.Cheers

Re:Ask HN: Is Yahoo Relevant? on Wednesday December 17, 2014 @08:02PM (#8765472)
Your analogy comparing Walmart to Yahoo is weak: 1. Walmart hasn’t make any acquisitions that are out of line with there fundamental business which they later shut down.

2. People go to Walmart and Target to buy similar things, relevance doesn’t factor into the discussion.

3. I doubt many people here know who the CEO of Walmart is, whereas we are inundated with news about Marissa Mayer in Tech and Non-Tech news.

Pehaps I have to use smaller words xrange.

Re:Ask HN: Is Yahoo Relevant? on Wednesday December 17, 2014 @07:43PM (#8765416)
Thanks Dennis. I see that the quantcast graph shows a downward slope and a loss of about 8 million users per month for the last month. Extrapolating based on this trend doesn't look very good. Are they doing anything to fix this? Does anyone on HN use Yahoo regularly?

Ask HN: Is Yahoo Relevant?

I just visited the Yahoo site after about 2 years, just to see what they're about. What I found was a bunch of aggregated "popular" news, none of which I would ever read. I tried there search engine and the results were reasonable but not superior to Google. Every one seems to be touting Marissa Mayer as saving Yahoo. What am I not seeing here?

Re:Elance for hardware: yay or nay? on Wednesday December 10, 2014 @05:12PM (#8732045)
I actually have used Elance for hardware, like Arduino programming and circuit board layout. Your idea sounds a bit more collaborative. I would like to see this but expanded to prototyping machined and 3d printed parts as well. The cost to go from idea to design to part is expensive, but I think it could be a lot cheaper.
I've been developing on the .net stack since its inception and it has worked well for me. I scaled and e-commerce company to $24 million in revenue using MS commerce server and .net. I use azure to host (while I have credit via bizspark). There are legions of programmers who work on this stack day in day out. Stackoverflow is a classic example of a high traffic site built using the MS stack. Why don't I ever hear people say is Ruby on Rails on AWS a bad idea?
According to this: http://startupgenome.cc/

They have some stats that say its not a myth.

Re:Ask HN: Partner reneged on Friday September 02, 2011 @11:04AM (#2954341)
Company just has letters of intent to put up signs. I don't this they are worth much as there is nothing binding.

Ask HN: Partner reneged

Asking on behalf of a friend:Friend is referred to as SX, had an idea to start a sign company and partnered with a friend let’s call him DX, that had the resources available to do a pilot of 5 signs which would cost approx 250-300K.Our arrangement was we would do 50/50 class A ownership and he would bring to the table this funding.DX as of late isn’t able any longer to put up the 300K or even...

Good for you! Well funded means they will have to pay for rent and employees and stuff. Go and do less, better.
Check this out http://37signals.com/bootstrapped . There are people running companies without outside funding and are probably pretty happy doing so. Applying to YC is time consuming: making videos, writing bios etc.

There are a lot of visible minority founders. When I go to startup events all over the North America, I feel like Custer...holy cow look at all those ####ing Indians. :)

Note I am of Indian decent myself so I can say that. :)

Re:Ask HN: What advice messed up your life? on Friday November 26, 2010 @09:57PM (#1944131)
Growing up I though engineer meant making cool shit. But going to engineering school meant learning things from first pricipals and not making cool shit. I should have gone in to arts and gotten laid more while making stuff on my free time.
An average dev specialzing narrowly in the startups area would be a lot more valuable that a "rock star" generalist.

Re:Ask HN: Why is Everyone Leaving Google? on Friday November 05, 2010 @04:26PM (#1874758)
Oh I wasn't knocking the need for non-developers. But the emphasis on "MBA" as requirement for these positions as from the posts above. I just thought an MBA wouldn't mean much at a place like google.
