News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I honestly don't understand what's dodgy about Palantir. They build a platform to analyze big data and they have clients like government agencies, immigration control and law enforcement. What's the big deal here? Please educate me
the UK got itself to a pretty peculiar setup now. The market for devs isn't so high paid or that huge to need much more people that don't already have the right to work there. It's not as attractive as the US
yep. there's nothing more mediocre than being against skilled immigration
beautifully put. London is the greatest city in the world
a tad dramatic?
This does not hold up in any court.
you might check this for inspiration (https://seguranca-informatica.pt/shopping-trap-the-online-st...).

I used to have a huge IOC collection, but now stopped tracking them.

things like HTML markup, pricing patterns, IPs might inform on specific clusters of fraudsters.

I don't think Shopify cares tbh

cool project. You might have notice, but there's a non-trivial amount of fraud on shopify (fake shops, info stealers, etc). Might be interesting to look at that dataset and explore a bit =) it's quite fascinating
also, how come this is not flagged on Hacker news?

cheap copycat. As for Bluesky created too much hype and exclusivity that people gave up. got a notification last week inviting me to join and lol'd. kinda like magicleap with vr.
Re:Ask HN: Where do you live? What's good or bad about it? on Thursday December 07, 2023 @07:22PM (#38563779)
well, hold on guys. let's not go too orthodox with all the education and moving abroad thing. People move abroad to the "west" for a variety of legit reasons which give them perspective. Many companies are in the UK and London still is, and probably always will be a powerhouse. Same for US, Germany, etc. I don't know that one can cross out the benefit of having studied abroad along so many talented people that easily. Can you get that at home? Depends on a lot of things, specially where is home for you.

because even if the US is very rich and ahead, their public infrastructure feels very run down compared to Germany, Austria, and others in Europe.

the skilled working class is already being squeezed down to the last penny. engineers are paid absurdly low salaries given the cost of living in London, and that's where they're best paid
Re:55% of workers say their pay isn't keeping up with inflation on Thursday December 07, 2023 @04:23PM (#38562004)
well, the catch is "we make about as much here as we did in the US". Usually, you'd make 40% less of what you did in the US when you move to the UK.
Re:Return to office is 'dead,' Stanford economist says on Friday December 01, 2023 @01:15PM (#38490141)
the key part is really trust. there's no substitute for in-office work on that matter. 100% agree with your take on this.

Re:Ask HN: How do you set up a SaaS as a solopreneur? on Tuesday September 26, 2023 @06:54PM (#37666944)
maybe a piece of feedback: your landing page is beautiful but I kinda spent a few minutes trying to find what your software actually looks like, and couldn't. Then I thought of checking the docs for the API description and it's restricted. =(
I wouldn't call you antisemitic, but at least very anti-Israel and anti-Zionism you are. Zionism is, partly, believing Israel has a right to exist and that Jewish people have a right to self-determination and a right to part of that land. Part of it. I will never say Israel is 100% correct in its acts in the region.

Not sure what "worst kind of zionism" means. To me just sounds like you're an extremist, so let's keep moving;

Israel has lasted more than a few hours standing alone during the wars for its existence. Against no less than all of the surrounding Arab countries. It has prevailed.

Israel exports an insane amount of security tooling and weaponry to the US, UK, and others. Its army is very advanced and very well-trained.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has nothing to do with the Holocaust, no less because it makes 0 sense to claim that. What do the Palestinians have to do with Nazi Germany to begin with?

Mossad carries extrajudicial operations, sure. Every intelligence service has external projections. Did they think it was fair to capture Eichmann in Argentina and bring him to justice in Israel? Sure. Do you think it is? Does that have anything at all to do with Palestine? Nope.

> bloody and frankly disgusting history

just empty hate again.

> other genocidal middle eastern nations".

Not sure you know what genocide is.

> the only reason Israel is allowed to exist is because they're a strategically important asset in the oil war.

Israel is not "allowed to exist". It exists and it it has proved time and again, every single day, how it can stand its ground in the region.

Israel's motto is absolutely not to commit genocides in exchange for the Holocaust. Your comment is just offensive. Zionism is not and was never a right-wing nationalist meme or movement. The right-wing has arguably done Israel lots of good in the past, despite its mishaps these days. Politics aside, what Israel is, is a highly-resourceful, incredibly sharp and defensive-offensive security powerhouse that produces offensive tools and capabilities for use in its wars and NSO is a spin-off of these capabilities. No need to drag the Holocaust, Jews, Zionism (Jewish national/self-determination movement) in the discussion.

edit: there's nothing to be "learned" or to be "avenged" from the tragedy of the industrialized genocide of people.

lots of people in Israel are ex-Mossad or ex-security services/army/special forces
So, solution to a private Israeli cybersecurity company that sells services to governments is to deport all Jews from Spain? You must be fun at parties.
