Wouldn’t they?
Yes because PhDs from western countries don't lazily publish AI generated research at all. No wait they do. There was no need to bring up the authors country of origin as being "third world"
I mean, I could not understand 95% of all the math out there due to skill issue, and it’s still valid. If machines can understand the math and humans can’t, we can’t validate it, but that doesn’t make the math itself invalid.
Re:I Could've Accessed 17T Microsoft Records on Thursday October 01, 2026 @01:53AM (#49918175)
I find it perplexing and stingy. Such a bug would likely fetch tens, hundreds of times more on the grey market. Why would anyone not just sell it there? $5000 for trillions of exposed records with PII from Microsoft is a joke.
Re:Jev in 25 Lines of Python on Thursday September 24, 2026 @03:48AM (#49827553)
Does this imply that bigger models aren’t affected by this as much and therefore won’t see much improvement?
Re:GPT-6 Sol and Luna on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @04:55AM (#49813341)
People use LLMs for far more personal tasks than just writing code. There are AI journaling apps for instance. And yeah, western providers give you a toggle but I don’t know if that toggle actually does anything or not. They were fine with collecting training data in many morally questionable ways before, no reason for them to stop when you’re literally handing it over to them.
Re:GPT-6 Sol and Luna on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @04:52AM (#49813324)
This is based on my last check of alibaba and Deepseek TOS. If the Chinese will do anything to win, so will the Americans. I’m not American or Chinese and I have no reason to trust either side. I do think Chinese models are better price performance and actually open which is in many cases better.
Re:GPT-6 Sol and Luna on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @02:56AM (#49812584)
Don’t know if it’s still true but with Chinese models, using Western API providers is significantly more expensive and using Chinese providers they will train on your inputs without exception. That has kept me from using these ultra cheap endpoints.
What is 8 dash 29 MB? And the copy on the landing page is clearly AI generated with the “each layer a model of its own” stuff, makes little sense. The more I see AI generated copy the less it makes sense.
Re:Apple Reference Image: A New Approach for Verified Photography on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @02:07AM (#49722651)
I skimmed the whole article and I didn’t see a single image so I’m confused. Is there some watermark of some kind or where is this metadata integrated? Because if it’s just metadata then I need to parse each photo I come across manually, and if it’s a watermark it can be faked because I won’t manually validate every single image I come across to prove the watermark isn’t fake.
Re:25 Years of Mass Surveillance Is Enough on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @01:38AM (#49722486)
Same. You’re further in than me, but it was so alarming at the start when my body looked the same and my remembered priors in strength and cardio capacity, were at my testosterone-dominant baseline. If I didn’t know to expect the steep drop in strength or hadn’t been on HRT knowingly I’d have been incredibly alarmed and probably visited a dozen doctors. I’d look at objects, say to myself, pfft, easy, and be humbled immediately. TBH it’s incredibly affirming and men have been pretty sweet helping me with lifting objects and opening jars.
Re:25 Years of Mass Surveillance Is Enough on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @01:32AM (#49722462)
So here’s the thing with that. My testosterone is in the cis female range. Has been for a while. I strength trained for years and even after having started estrogen. I continued going to the gym while on HRT and my capacity kept decreasing rather than increasing. So I looked into this. Because visibly I still had the muscles I’d gained. To actually activate said muscles, you need testosterone. That’s how it works. No testosterone = the muscles never activate = they atrophy away. While I looked the same in terms of muscles that I had while I was doing 12 pull-ups, I quickly came down to being able to do 0 unassisted. Now the visible bulk is also reducing because they just never get activated. A cis male on steroids still has testosterone after cessation. Hence the muscles they gained can retain stimulus for activation. I’ve been tracking my body comp through DEXA scans for years now and after starting HRT, within a year I was at the higher end of cis female muscle mass and had lost kilos of muscle throughout my body. Can I still beat most cis women at lifting? Yes. Only because I’m trained, not because I lived for years under heavier testosterone influence. I cannot outlift or outrun trained cis women, only untrained ones. I am unable to outlift my brother who is completely untrained. I used to be able to hold my own arm wrestling with cis men but now I know it’ll be foolish to even try it because even cis men with zero training ever have arms twice my size and active testosterone stimulus to be able to activate their muscles.

“Militant” trans activists? How is just using someone’s pronouns “speech control”? It’s no different than using a name. If trans people tell you who they are, just believe them, it’s not that hard. There’s nothing mythical about the ongoing trans genocide. Genocides don’t just happen in gas chambers.

https://translegislation.com/

I am not going to say much more here because I’m fairly certain none of this will get through to you given the tone of your comment. Trans people are far more likely to be victims in washrooms than to be perpetrators.

Re:25 Years of Mass Surveillance Is Enough on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @11:48AM (#49714387)
Right. Hormones cause an insane amount of changes. The texture of my skin, my scent, how much oil my skin produces, the haemoglobin in my blood, the size and strength of my muscles, how much fat my body stores, and where it goes, how attraction feels, how emotions feel, what I find rewarding. Certain physical attributes do require different interventions but the vast majority of sexually differentiated traits are decided by the dominant sex hormone in the body, not by the XX/XY genes. See: XY females for instance who have non functioning androgen receptors. When we talk about biological women, it’s also ignoring intersex variations. Biology is way more complex than we make it out to be.

Btw, feel free to reach out to me I love connecting with fellow trans women in tech :)
Re:25 Years of Mass Surveillance Is Enough on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @10:10AM (#49712794)
I used to be able to do 12 pull-ups, and I did get de-trained but now I can barely manage a single one. I lived and did cardio in the mountains for years and now I get winded up way easier. Maybe the politicians making these rules should go on HRT before making unsubstantiated claims.
Re:25 Years of Mass Surveillance Is Enough on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @10:01AM (#49712665)
It wasn’t a problem to begin with. Meta studies recently showed trans women have no biological advantage over cis women after HRT, certainly nothing than cis women don’t have biological variation within anyway. All the rule updates did was exclude and further marginalise an already marginalised extreme minority. There are very few trans women to begin with, fewer of us still are competing in sports. Nothing was studied here, the people who made the rules aren’t scholars, they’re bigots. They’re using us as a distraction from their poor governance.
Re:25 Years of Mass Surveillance Is Enough on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @09:21AM (#49712111)
As a trans woman, enough is enough! I’m tired of us being made into the scapegoat while literal pedophiles and sexual criminals not only walk free but gain ever greater power and idiots keep blaming us for their problems as they close their ears and stomp their feet’s on the ground
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @02:04AM (#49708351)
I don’t recall exact queries. What I do remember is giving a demo of the developer beta to friends thinking it’s gotten much closer to ChatGPT and it embarrassing me. And being much slower, requiring a gesture at the top of the screen to dismiss etc just made me deactivate Apple Intelligence. It’s embarrassing in 2026 for Apple.
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @03:18PM (#49702442)
In my experience new Siri has been better only marginally. Still tons of I didn’t understand the query responses
Re:GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released on Saturday September 12, 2026 @02:15AM (#49669419)
I bought the mini and I bought the Air so it worked on me. I think it’s crazy that Apple sold millions of devices and that’s not enough of a market. We should make devices few people use, not everything needs to be mass market, to me that’s enshittification and greed.
Re:OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra on Friday September 04, 2026 @02:38AM (#49561262)
So not a single normal human being can access the model yet, just some super limited handful of organizations, but they’ve announced the model as though it’s available to everyone already.

I guess that’s the world we live in now, Anthropic did similar with Mythos and even Fable if I recall correctly.

It is vibe coded.

But worse.

> Gas Town is for “write-only code”, … If you adopt Gas Town, you will lose the speed benefit of multiple agents if you read the code it produces. The first time you stare at an 8,500 line Git diff and try and parse what happened, you’ve lost. Go back to a single Claude Code session. Gas Town isn’t for you.

So none of the code has even been read by the author, it’s purposely overly verbose. “Touched by LLMs” seems to downplay just how vibe coded this is. I won’t use this database for anything.

They’ve had this weird phrasing on this landing page for at least 6 months if not longer. It’s clearly a landing page that receives no love.

Re:OpenClaw 2.0, Accidentally on Monday August 31, 2026 @04:39AM (#49507155)
So at least 569 vibe coders have made a huge mess of an already hugely messy piece of software and they somehow think this is a flex? Yeah I’m gonna continue to not use openclaw. I installed it once in a VM and was immediately like what is this and why would I ever want it? Seriously Claude code already does everything openclaw can and with a much better harness?
Re:Samsung's Processing-in-Memory (PIM) on Saturday August 29, 2026 @06:02AM (#49488473)
Interesting read. Definitely hoping this works out so we can have cheap LLM machines at home
But that scan is never made available to us in its original form. So it getting scanned by the AI company does nothing to preserve the book.
Re:How Bluesky draws its logo on screenshots on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @03:14AM (#49342419)
Bank apps black out the whole screen when I take a screenshot and it’s super annoying. As a user, I should be able to take a screenshot of my screen. I can use a camera or another phone to do it anyway.
