Re:Ask HN: Why do VCS see market opportunity in dev tools? on Thursday June 29, 2023 @01:42PM (#36523884)
Good points. But I'm trying to understand why do they even fund startups even without a well defined moat? I've heard that VCs will fund (even seed round) only if the startup has a chance to make atleast $100M in ARR. Then why do they bet even on startups who just copy and without a proper moat?

It's not just hope right? Many of them are doing serious business. But I just don't know how they provide clear value.

ok then let's narrow down to "Authentication/Authorization infrastructure" products like Auth0, AWS Cognito etc.

There are atleast 5-6 startups who came up to this space in the last 3-4 years (after the acquisition of Auth0 by Okta for some $6B).

And whenever such startups launch their product here in HN, most devs are like, what is the need for another product like this.

Ask HN: Why do VCS see market opportunity in dev tools?

This trend has no stopping it seems. Every dev tool startups are getting funded. Some of these startups are simple clones of existing proprietary services offered by AWS and other providers. (Like Cognito / Auth0)Why VCs are betting on this market? What is the opportunity to build a huge business here for a new startup, beating reputed players like AWS, Auth0 etc? What is the conviction of VCs...

Isn't it always better to get it printed from a local print shop? So we'll get it instantly. (Not from the US btw)

Ask HN: Devs, Workflow engine with DSL or programming language?

Which one do you prefer? If you're gonna use some third party service (either closed hosted, or self hosted) to build application logic workflows, what will be your preference? To write the workflow in their DSL spec and decoupled from your source code?, or will you be more interested if you can run your own native code as workflows?

Ask HN: How to identify bottleneck in RabbitMQ consumer written in Node?

I'm trying to identify the bottleneck in my rabbitmq consumer written in Node.JS. The consumer performs 2 simple MYSQL SELECT queries using TypeORM, and then finally perform an API request using Axios. My Setup -- This consumer, the rabbitmq server, and the MYSQL server, everything is in docker containers inside a t3.large EC2 instance. The tables are very small, (less than 2000 rows)The issue...

Ask HN: Tech and product co-founder in a dilemma after raising seed round

I'm a tech + product co-founder who just raised our seed round. Ours is a pure hi-tech product and I envisioned the product and built it. I have no professional experience as a CEO, but I think only I can lead the "product" in the right direction. Should I be the CEO? or Is it really important to hire a "management guru" as the CEO?
