Nice website jmstfv. I have a question about how customers trust your monitoring saas. Say I have a website/service, my deployment config would probably be similar to what you have. If AWS goes down, both mine and your monitoring saas will go down. Can you please share some details about your architecture that makes it more reliable? I am curious about what sort of customers are you targeting.
What are things I could do to improve my resume for EB1 category Greencard in the next year or so? I am currently on H1B working as a SWE at a top Silicon valley company (think Google/FB). I have a Master's degree in CS from a top US university and have a couple of years work experience. According to the company attorney, I qualify only for the EB2 category. Unfortunately, the EB2 queue is extremely long since I am from India. I am asking this since you mentioned in your past AMAs that it is possible for strong EB2 candidates to move to EB1.
As long as the candidates have a valid work status, isn't it illegal to discriminate based on type of work status?
Apologies for taking it offtopic, but can't you just move internally?

I found a way to circumvent security with Gogo and get free internet on my laptop in flights. Based on my limited Google searches, I couldn't find this method of exploit posted online already. I chatted with their customer rep and was told they don't have a bug-bounty program. How do I report it to them? What are my options? This is my first time reporting a security bug and I want to know the...
Thank you for the reply. The employer sent me an FAQ that says to be on the safe side, just list the item on the form and I can work with their legal team after joining, in case I need more clarification.

I am about to start a new job in California and employer wants me to sign this form. I dont have any patents but my side-projects are in the same domain as in the job. So I am concerned about what to put in there. I also have planned to build something in the coming months on the side. Should I also list that in the 'prior inventions' form? The advice I find on the internet is conflicting. What...
Most of my projects fit in my laptop hardisk. I have a dropbox subscription which syncs everything interesting in my laptop to dropbox servers. This setup has saved my work once when my old laptop died - I just bought a new laptop and synced everything from dropbox.
Ah finally something I am knowledgeable about.. building a software simulation system for a smart power-grid that can account for renewable energy sources was my grad school research project. Linked here if you wanna learn more:

Anecdotal evidence: I know some new grads who took this test when Amazon rolled out this automated form of hiring 2 years back. There were several crazy things with this process.. the questions in the test were changed only once a week and they did actually make offers to new grads after just the 3 hour online test. In dorm rooms where a bunch of students are applying for jobs at the same time, news travels fast. In short, there are a whole bunch of people working at Amazon who got their jobs by just typing out answers to questions they memorized.
You are wrong. I am depressed and this made me feel better. You are painting depressed people with too broad of a brush.
I built something like this at home. CMU Sphinx is a popular open source speech recognition toolkit that you can run locally. But it was kind of clumsy to setup and train. Also, I couldn't get high accuracy.
Other cloud options include Google Voice and wit.ai.
Google Voice AFAIK doesn't allow you to train it with custom models. I finally went with wit.ai which turned out to be pretty good.
Blog post with code and schematics describing my setup: http://arunpn.com/projects/voice-activated-light-switch/
I built a voice-activated switch to toggle the lights in my bedroom:

For $1000 you can get a new Thinkpad X1 Carbon(Gen3). Lighter than a Macbook Air but specs comparable to a Macbook Pro. I got one recently and have dual booted Linux and Windows 10 on it.
I recommend Lenovo X1 carbon 3rd gen. At 2.8 pounds, it is lighter than the Macbook Air but with a bigger 14 inch screen. I run Ubuntu on it and am pretty happy with it.

I am running Wordpress on a $5 plan for my personal website. Also paying $1 extra per month for backups. While requesting for an OS image to install, you can choose to install Wordpress on it from their menu. It is a no-frills simple setup if you want to go the self-hosting route.
Applied on a whim and got in. But being a student, the cost of travel from Atlanta is making me think twice.
