Re:Cormac McCarthy's Library on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:46PM (#50312101)
Grim sometimes brutal but not gratuitous
Re:Why do I lose my passion and want to do nothing? on Monday August 31, 2026 @06:54PM (#49515834)
I prefer the analogy of the RTS genre of videogames where it's the macro vs micro rather. Your powertool never had a mind of its own
Re:Stop Eating Lady Gaga's Oreos on Friday August 21, 2026 @12:13AM (#49383704)
I just wish Redbar radio would return. He was a true embodiment of the punk ethos in the niche world of comedy / entertainment podcasting. Never selling out to the ad revenue or collabs, staying off YouTube and other platforms, resisting the call of Kanye's team when they reached out about his stellar cover of Cousins.
Re:Mysteries of Telegram Data Centers on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @02:45PM (#48925334)
Discord is annoying af to use, slow and bloated like the rest of them. Really it all comes down to UX when anyone asks why use Telegram.
Re:If You Can't Hold It, You Don't Own It on Saturday June 27, 2026 @06:06PM (#48702227)
Can't you use bluray players without a network connection?
Re:Pre-2022 Books on Saturday June 20, 2026 @07:55PM (#48614269)
It's extremely easy to disprove that lack of hard proof too. One could've individually chatgpt'd every addition before commit for proofreading. The infection of AI just gets into every nook and cranny of the process because it's so easy to reach for it
Re:No, everyone is not using AI for everything on Sunday June 14, 2026 @06:23PM (#48533508)
Google searches are still part of my everyday use if you're a power user like me that ctrl/cmd+L to the browser bar and the first auto complete is a web search rather than a bookmark or history item
Re:It's Death on Wednesday June 10, 2026 @01:45PM (#48479959)
But sometimes do question it before you end up to sweating the small stuff
And wrote this title
Re:Project Hail Mary – Stellar Navigation Chart on Thursday May 21, 2026 @03:32PM (#48227862)
Anyone with a gaming rig and an interest in scale of a galaxy should check out elite dangerous.
Re:AI is making me dumb on Thursday May 14, 2026 @09:22PM (#48143375)
Yesterday I needed to email my landlord about the roof and immediately used chatgpt. This is gonna be it for everything
Re:Everything we like is a psyop on Friday April 17, 2026 @01:21PM (#47808299)
Redbar, one of the first podcasts, had been anti ads for over 20 years now. Basically changed my whole view of advertising ever since
Re:Oracle slashes 30k jobs with a cold 6 a.m. email on Tuesday March 31, 2026 @12:35PM (#47589933)
Irresponsible, careless, negligent. No planning leads to all of this. Ultimately unethical from this point of view
That is disheartening about Severance, I've been meaning to catch up on s2 after a phenomenal s1. But that you're totally on point about the padding. The last good series I saw that finished well was Mr Robot, getting closer to a decade ago now. No one knows how to write a well contained long running series anymore without stretching it with slop and content.
Re:Chuck Norris has died on Friday March 20, 2026 @11:40AM (#47456176)
Literally 10 days ago
Re:Dan Simmons, author of Hyperion, has died on Saturday February 28, 2026 @08:45AM (#47195302)
Ohhhh yeah, same exact deal with me. Read the series during a wild moment in my life decades ago. Still my favorite sci-fi series to date
When those commercials start playing at the gas pump I instinctively turn away out of sheer principal.
Re:I guess I kinda get why people hate AI on Tuesday February 17, 2026 @09:11AM (#47047638)
Nah I saw a grammar error few paragraphs in.
Re:Ask HN: How can we solve the loneliness epidemic? on Thursday January 15, 2026 @09:22PM (#46642279)
On the other hand, you also can't have an attachment to what you want the outcomes to be. You can't expect the same in return from everyone else. Until you let go of this transactional mindset, you will grow resentful when a lot of them start canceling on you, and believe me, at your 30s and above, with all these things that compete for our time, they will.
Re:Video Game Websites in the early 00s on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @04:27PM (#46519053)
My favorite one was a fansite for the original NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy. Wonder if it's still up
Re:The Unbearable Joy of Sitting Alone in a Café on Sunday January 04, 2026 @11:27AM (#46489471)
Clearly. What's there to be awkward about? You should be enjoying the coffee you came there for
Re:The suck is why we're here on Saturday January 03, 2026 @08:35PM (#46483874)
What happens when the AI perfects the art of writing? From one turing test goalpost to the next, fooling the human utterly each time until it's forever. Is there a ceiling to this?
Re:Ask HN: Best Podcasts of 2025? on Sunday December 28, 2025 @07:24PM (#46415983)
Redbar is the only thing I listen to but unfortunately this has been a bad year for shows.
There are NO ads that are good. I will die on this hill
Re:Why do some gamers invert their controls? on Sunday September 21, 2025 @07:42PM (#45327688)
I used to invert them but realized two things: 1: anyone can adapt to any control scheme given enough time (which isn't much) 2: majority of games default to, and people play with, non inverted controls. If you don't see yourself playing flight sims constantl y, it's just easier for everyone involved to learn the noninverted controls so that no one has to constantly change control mappings
Re:The Universe Within 12.5 Light Years on Friday September 05, 2025 @10:14PM (#45145988)
For getting the feel of the milky way, I think there's nothing that is better able to simulate it than a video game, ala Elite Dangerous. I loved to navigate its galaxy map. The size of the Milky Way, the numbers of stars and distances between them are of scale in there if I recall correctly.
Re:I tried every todo app and ended up with a .txt file on Monday August 11, 2025 @04:45PM (#44869272)
I echo the authors sentiment except for one thing: mobile-native editing experience. This is where Google Keep shines for me personally. I need to also be able to modify my notes immediately and with an intuitive note taking interface.
Re:No One Knows Anything About AI on Thursday July 24, 2025 @07:39PM (#44677678)
Here here
On this note, is Ytube also the best transcriber of foreign languages or is there something better?
