Hello everyone, happy holidays!I am very curious to know what others have been up to during this year when it came to reading, gaining knowledge or developing new perspectives.I am on a lookout for maybe the top 3 books you read this year that changed you in some way. Re:Show HN: Coursemate, connect with other self learners on Saturday April 01, 2023 @05:44AM (#35398823)
I really like the idea.

A small feedback, it would be good to also add courses from all over the internet, e.g. MIT OCW.

Ask HN: How does your local development environment look like?

Just curious to know how other devs do local development around the software they are building, be it a monolith, service oriented, event driven architecture, running in vms/containers around an orchestrator, k8s most likely. Is your local environment as close as production, or you run everything on the host, or you develop in containers but deploy on k8s, how do you solve issues around...

Did you try using google keep? Works really well for this kind of stuff ;)

Re:Ask HN: How reliable are Glassdoor reviews? on Saturday October 06, 2018 @11:49AM (#18155714)
Not really, it's very easy to game glassdoor reviews. My previous employer had 90 or so fake 5 star reviews to have an outstanding profile.

One good thing about glassdoor reviews is the Helpful button, this gives us some authenticity for negative or positive reviews.

What's the correctness criteria of the take home coding assignment?

Had applied last year, was given a simple game to write without any test cases, though it worked, application didn't move forward.

Google keep, simple and effective.

Very interested for this position. Please contact me prakashw at iCloud dot com

Excellent resource! Please share how you made it.
The bitter truth is, workers from TCS and Infosys are able to do the job more efficiently than their american counterparts with a lesser pay. This system as a whole is beneficial for the US economy, I don't think they will change it in near future.

Re:Whatsapp Web on Wednesday January 21, 2015 @01:53PM (#8924747)
Doesn't work, apparently you need to scan the code from your phone's WhatsApp which you can't due to lack of that functionality.

Re:Behind the 'Bad Indian Coder' on Sunday November 17, 2013 @02:14PM (#6750319)
Being stuck in the education system myself, I fully agree that the system is flawed. But I think you get what you pay for, if you raise the buck it won't be difficult to find some excellent coders in India.
Re:Ask HN: Is Java still worth learning? on Sunday November 10, 2013 @01:05PM (#6707615)
If we are looking at the future from this point on, then in a nutshell the precise answer to this question would be NO. The only popular Java use I see is on Android by google, that is going to change sooner or later.
