Re:The last time my family was replaced by technology on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @09:46AM (#49908904)
I like this article, but it took decades for cars to take over: we needed to build vehicles, build roads, build up gas production and distribution... as Bill Gates wrote, one of the differences with the AI disruption is how fast it's coming, since it's almost immaterial (except data centers of course). It may be too fast for humans to adapt like they did in the previous revolutions.
Re:John Carmack on Fabrice Bellard on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @06:36AM (#48553178)
I emailed Fabrice in early 2013 when I was starting wit.ai. He replied quickly with a very nice, humble, valuable response.
Re:How and where will agents ship software? on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @04:30PM (#44586499)
I've been using InstantDB for two projects for one year and it's awesome.

Sober from VCs

This year I did my first "VC-dry Q1" — a quarter with zero VC meetings.Refraining from interactions with VCs (it's hard to resist! "hey {first_name}, we love what you are building at {company}") brought me a lot of clarity. Once the silence settled in, I started to hear all these weak signals from our customers and prospects that were lost in the noise of hype before. I started to make...

And Clojure! (also a JVM language)

They should also hold prescribers accountable. As a certified physician you hold powers and responsibilities. In many countries these prescribers would lose their licence.

This is why I read HN every day.
Re:Intel One Mono Typeface on Saturday May 13, 2023 @12:38AM (#35925579)
I don't understand how a hardware company who just reported its largest quarterly loss in history with revenue down 36% year-over-year [1] is working on fonts. Or maybe this explains that.

+1 I came here to write this comment word for word. The speed of IBM-ization of Google is astounding.
I understand your concerns. Our objectives are, on the contrary, to reduce the doctor/patient distance that was created by EHRs and all the required administrative processes. We already measure that when AI takes care of this stuff, doctors do better engage with patients.
Thanks for your comment.

We plan to offer an on-prem option eventually.

In the meantime: - we offer a GDPR compliant EU-based hosting option - we don't store anything (no audio, no transcript, no note): it's stateless and all erased at the end of each consultation - data is pseudonomyzed as it flows though our systems

Our first customers (large healthcare orgs) have been OK with this so far!

Yes absolutely.
Thanks for your comment. We clearly show a diff to the doctor before updating patient records. We are very explicit that they should check it (and edit if necessary).

Show HN: Using GPT-3 and Whisper to save 40% of doctors’ time

Hey HN,We're Alex, Martin and Laurent. We previously founded Wit.ai (W14), which we sold to Facebook in 2015. Since 2019, we've been working on Nabla (https://www.nabla.com), an intelligent assistant for health practitioners. When GPT-3 was released in 2020, we investigated it's usage in a medical context[0], to mixed results.Since then we’ve kept exploring opportunities at the intersection of...

"[...] garbage collect unnecessary processes [...]" At least we know some parts of the post were actually written by Zuck himself, not the PR team.
Re:Building a Startup on Clojure on Tuesday October 04, 2022 @01:46PM (#33083963)
We built Wit.ai on Clojure and it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

Most engineers we hired has no prior experience but learned quickly. It gave us a great advantage to hire the best.

Re:A Graph-Based Firebase on Friday August 26, 2022 @04:36AM (#32604708)
I would really use this for many of my projects! For project A, I used Firebase which was great initially but eventually ran into the limitations well described in Stopa's essay. For project B, I decided to write everything from scratch but the amount of work it required is crazy, and of course the result in quite brittle.
Re:About Last Week’s Announcement on Thursday June 23, 2022 @07:54PM (#31856497)
Can’t wait for the even more bizarre « about the last week second announcement » next week. Seriously who can remain a customer after this?
Re:Success and Failure at Pebble on Tuesday April 12, 2022 @12:19AM (#30998584)
We started Wit.ai from Pebble's offices in 2013 in Palo Alto. We didn't know anyone in the Valley, but Eric had read our "Show HN" and kindly offered us to hang out there. We grew to a 6-people team and stayed there for 6 months -- Eric never asked us to pay $1. He helped us a lot and he also pushed us to join YC (W14). We wouldn't have made Wit.ai without him and I'll be thankful forever.
Re:Persepolis of ancient Persia rendered in WebGL on Saturday April 09, 2022 @03:16AM (#30965864)
I visited Persepolis in 2016 -- having this experience before the actual visit would have been incredible!

I think Nuance bought most of the assets. And 20 years later MSFT bought Nuance. Full circle!

Re:The Web3 Fraud on Thursday December 16, 2021 @11:34PM (#29587785)
This article misses the point, it sees web3 decentralization as purely technical and makes performance comparisons with existing systems. The power of web3 decentralization is about control, not more powerful computing. Yes your raspberry pi runs faster than the EVM, but can you give me any guarantee about what code it runs?
