Re:Agents that run while I sleep on Tuesday March 10, 2026 @06:39PM (#47329658)
Do you really, honestly, have to be doing this stuff even when you sleep? To the point it hits you “wait is this even any good? Gee I don’t want to push out slop.”

If you don’t trust the agent to do it right in the first place why do you trust them to implement your tests properly? Nothing but turtles here.

I would be more impressed if it could give a straight yes/no answer to a yes/no question.

Probably less than the cost of an LLM doing exactly the same thing?
Re:CEOs are hugely expensive. Why not automate them? on Sunday December 28, 2025 @07:18PM (#46415928)
A hundred thousand posts on HN about how you can, without hesitation, replace your network security team with AI, and you can see the flood of CEOs (or CEO wannabes) nodding and murmuring about saving costs. A single post about CEOs being automated and all of a sudden it’s all about “intangible human relation skills” and “AI couldn’t possibly” and “but my network of angel investors and other CEOs”.

I swear there’s a joke or cautionary tale here somewhere about “first they came for..” or something along those lines. The phrasing escapes me.

Maybe the problem isn’t that you can’t automate a CEO, it’s that the actual tangible work just isn’t worth as much as some companies pay for it, and this thread it touching a few too many raw nerves.

Well, either way it’s hilarious.

Re:AI's Biggest Flaw? The Blinking Cursor Problem on Wednesday February 26, 2025 @05:52PM (#43189204)
This pencil is unclear. Has pointy tip problem. Needs more examples.
ChatGPT, here are some stats, write me an article about older gamers and list reasons why appealing to them is a good business decision.

Amazing. Hyperlinks.

This might just be the best stock photo site for YouTube creepypasta videos.

Came to the comments to ask this. Looks like an Amazon product description.

We’ll I think you’re great and that other person is a poopy head.
His latest book, “Fall, or Dodge In Hell” also uses the same idea as a major plot device. And alike all things written by Neal Stephenson, is amazing.
Re:macOS Monterey on Tuesday October 26, 2021 @01:28AM (#28996715)
Affinity Photo is pretty good though it may not suit your needs. I know you already tried it but Clip Studio is very powerful if you stick with it (possibly depending on what art you’re making)
Re:Machu Picchu was built over major fault zones (2019) on Wednesday October 20, 2021 @08:26PM (#28938690)
Unrelated, but is it just not possible any more for anybody to write a title for an article that doesn't sound like it was composed by a click-bait robot?
Good for you, kiddo. Let’s talk when you hit your 40s and tell me how it all went.
Re:14kb WASM game written in D on Tuesday September 14, 2021 @10:03PM (#28534332)
I think it's pretty cool too. The people shitting on your post should go try implementing the same thing.
I kind of liked that. It was like an evolving art piece/drama where Chris was one of the characters, together with Eth man.
Re:How I got my Japanese permanent residency on Sunday August 09, 2020 @07:57PM (#24103989)
Here’s how I got mine: got married to Japanese national. Worked and paid taxes for 8 years in a job that wasn’t teaching English. Applied for and paid ¥8000. Waited half a year. Received the OK to pick up my new perm resident card the week before my family packed up to move back to Australia...

Seriously one of the most simultaneously exciting and annoying pieces of mail I’ve ever received.

Despite myself I’m disappointed this wasn’t about time machines.
Re:PlayCanvas, the Web-first game engine on Saturday August 01, 2020 @06:42PM (#24024544)
Same cons that we came up with too. Which means it’s that’s much harder for anyone who isn’t a developer to make contributions to things like level design.
Re:PlayCanvas, the Web-first game engine on Saturday August 01, 2020 @06:32PM (#24024470)
A bit over a year ago now, so at least that much time has passed. It looked like a very good product then, looks like a very good product now. When I spoke to their support I was actually helped out by their CTO so I always felt it was a pretty rooted place.

But, at that time it didn’t meet our requirements.

Re:PlayCanvas, the Web-first game engine on Saturday August 01, 2020 @06:27PM (#24024433)
I think they ended up using Phaser. I left before they actually released a game with that new stack. As mentioned below the cons are that you will need to invest more in making your tooling and it’s way harder for anyone whose not a programmer to use it. The pros were that it was very easy to work with, HTML first, and had a long enough track record to have ironed out a lot of common developer problems.

I recall our unity engineer quite liked Defold, which had an integrated builder tool, but for some reason the lead dev didn’t want to go with it.

I don’t want to be throwing shade on Play Canvas though, it’s possible if we did the same assessment today we would have gone with that engine.

Re:PlayCanvas, the Web-first game engine on Saturday August 01, 2020 @10:21AM (#24020616)
I left the company before that decision really formalized itself but I think the lead dev was leaning towards using Phaser. I believe they’re using that now at least.

We had been using Unity for a long time but when the company decided pivot to HTML, we kept running into performance issues for for web (which left the Unity developer we had hired in a pretty awkward position).

Re:PlayCanvas, the Web-first game engine on Saturday August 01, 2020 @04:51AM (#24018873)
For what it’s worth, when I was working at a mobile game studio, we looked at this as an engine for a project. At the time we decided not to go with it since all your code needs to live on their server and there’s no easy local dev environment.

Not sure what the state of play for this product is now, but at the time we considered it too risky a proposition (what if they go out of business tomorrow?) and too limiting for the cost they were asking to use their platform.

Re:McDonald's holds communities together (2016) on Monday December 30, 2019 @07:33AM (#21912896)
That’s nice to hear!

I’ve been working in Japan for a decade and one of the things that made morning Roppongi much more tolerable was being able to slide into a Maccas and quietly drink a coffee before going to work.

I’m heading back to Aus now and the thought I wouldn’t be able to do that was actually a little depressing.

That’s not cheap: that’s smart. Knowing this makes me like the whole thing even more.

At this time, aparantly what you do is “retry later”. Sounds legitimate.
Re:Cargill: The Worst Company in the World on Monday July 15, 2019 @08:39PM (#20446594)
It really felt like a mistake. Surely nobody would have designed that on purpose??
