I'm into typography and I like trying out new fonts, but what's with the sudden flood of everyone making their own lately? I remember how novel and interesting it was a few years ago when, like, JetBrains Mono came out. Now it's like every code-adjacent company has their own. Is AI particularly good at font design or something?
Yes, how incredibly unsafe. For maximum security, I always print out text that I intend to download, and then type it character-by-character into `echo "" > file`, through a plexiglass enclosure.
I know, right? Anyone who's ever had a cracked display will instantly associate that look with being broken.
That's not the same thing at all as "selling it as a Pro product". They just happened to put a chip in it which has "Pro" in the name, and which this press release accurately names. They're still selling it as an "iPad Mini" at the same segments and value props that they've always sold iPad Minis at.
And the "Pro" in the chip name doesn't mean anything anyway, "Pro" is actually the lowest-power suffix for A/M-series chips (behind "Max" and "Ultra").
Yeah but only
if you then execute it (via the AI, sure). But then, like, of course? How else are you supposed to run software of any kind, if not by first downloading it, and then executing it? Do you guys have some other kind of way of distributing software I'm unaware of?
I'm 99.99% sure the OP was conflating the "install script" for this skill with the "curl | bash" installers you see from things like homebrew, which a lot of people chafe at. But this isn't that, it's just the curl part. Which is not unusual at all. It's how literally 100% of all software is distributed.
In what way are they selling it as a "pro" product?
It’s not executing anything, it’s un-tarring a bunch of plain text files.
What are you referring to? The Wii and 3DS shops quite famously shut down years ago. Yes there’s hShop now which simulates it and provides every ROM for free, but you can hardly credit Nintendo for that.
The attorney thinks the best way to get the maximum sentence is to make an AI video of the victim asking for
leniency in sentencing?
What kind of 4D chess is this?
I think you’re splitting hairs. The OP’s analogy works well.
If we end up in a future where AIs have as much concern for our welfare as we have for the welfare of the average animal (not the minuscule percentage of domesticated dogs, but the overwhelming majority of factory-farmed or simply driven to extinction), then I doubt you would consider it a “mischaracterization” to say that the whole AI thing did not work out to our advantage.
Bringing up “modern Westerners with their dogs” as a counterexample is almost self-parody.

The expense to review them deeply
used to be large, a few years ago. There should be a review process that consists of putting the source code in some escrow build environment and letting an LLM do a full audit. What would that be, a few bucks at-cost?
Okay, can you concoct some prompt-injection-like scenario where you can fool increasingly sophisticated agents about the presence of your malware? Sure, maybe. It's MILES ahead of where both major app stores are today, though, where you can find obvious scams that sailed through review just by looking at their description.
I’m honestly not sure what distinction you’re drawing here. Is it the pluralization you’re objecting to?
That’s a fair analogy as well, though it makes a totally different point.
I think you’re right about the analogy itself, though it’s far from clear that society owes it to your grandma to hinder everyone’s access to cheap tomatoes just so she can feel more useful for her tomato-growing abilities.
Huh? You think the public versions of the models have been “lobotomized” so they
don’t know how to turn off a PC?
It’s not lobotomized, it’s a simple harness restriction that has nothing to do with the model or its capabilities. And either way, I’m not sure what that has to do with “negligence” or “intent”? You think frontier labs should be prosecuted because they don’t allow agents to turn off your PC?
I don’t see the analogy? AI is not preventing the craftsman programmer from coding. Your compiler hasn’t stopped “yielding fruit”, so to speak.
The correct analogy would be, your mom can also just go to the supermarket and get much cheaper mass-produced tomatoes; which is… exactly the current situation?
“Moves to advisory role” is just corporate speak for “retired/fired”. I can’t think of a single example of an executive who “moved to an advisory role” and demonstrated even an iota of influence after that point.
Considering that the very first paragraph of their README has:
> toast is for the developer who wants to stay in their terminal without spending hours getting it up to snuff.
I think he knows you can get anything you want in emacs/vim. The pitch is that toast is batteries-included.
Very obviously you get a Mac Studio for that, not a phone. (Oh, the 96GB Studio is almost $6000, you counter? Imagine how much it would cost in a phone form factor).
You can't possibly expect Apple to take that market segment seriously.
What on earth would you do with an iOS device that has 96GB of RAM? You realize the last generation (i.e, the most powerful consumer phone in the world today) had 12 GB of RAM? You feel the need for eight times that amount?
I don’t know too much about image processing, but my intuition tells me that distinguishing a photo of a 3d scene from a photo of a photo of a 3d scene is a much easier engineering problem than distinguishing it from an AI-generated diffusion. So even just reducing the problem to the former is still a worthy accomplishment.
Maybe, if you tried, you could concoct some adversarial example of a stylesheet that a recent Claude model would trip up on and fail to color a button correctly on the first or even second try. But it would have to be some explicitly engineered trick, akin to an optical illusion for humans.
You can’t convince me that I’m somehow the odd one out because I regularly have no trouble getting Claude to recolor buttons.
Then you won’t be able to prove it was a genuine photograph? That sounds like the right failure mode.
So this site is just a fan-fiction that thinks it's somehow dunking on Claude? I've never had a session that remotely resembles any of this. I honestly can't tell what point this site thinks it's making.
I'm so curious if you're actually able to keep a straight face while typing that.
A quick glance through the README would demonstrate the litany of improvements you can expect from a proper decomp/port, compared to emulation.
Anyone know if this includes TikZ?
Do you mean Teams + Claude? Because Teams and GitHub have had plenty of integration with each other for years.
