News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I've used `BioMin F` with fluorapatite which is apparently more effective than hydroxyapatite - it's not a miracle regrowth protein like this article seems to claim, but its definitely a noticeable difference compared to regular toothpastes.
Called The Precession of the Equinoxes or Axial Precesion, the ancient societies including Egypt were also aware of this, and even bronze age cultures may have been aware (golden hats, megalithic calendars) or atleast of the related 19 year lunisolar cycle.

iirc Christmas and other mythological holidays are related to the "birth" and "death" of the north star movements, along with the sun and venus.

It's multiple lebanese family/gangs (Haddara family and others) vs biker gangs - as far as I can tell from news reports.

Both these parties run tobacco stores in many states - licensing was/is non-existant or minimal, although they are now increasing the overview and requirements in states that were lax.

These stores were mostly branded as vape/convenience stores until the recent regulation changes, now they often sell american candy and various random things along with local gov sanctioned cigarettes ($50/pack minimum) or the imported packs ($15-25 pack) - you can guess which one they pretty much exclusively sell.

Asians (Vietnamese/Chinese) are also selling the imported cigarettes out of their own branded stores and also some of the big chain tobacco stores (TSG, Cignall).

There have been dozens of arson attacks against the Lebanese and Biker stores over the last few years, supposedly over territory and payments.

A lebanese nearby had its security facade destroyed and was torched black the day after last years Christmas.

The asians don't seem to be involved in the arson attacks, they may be importing it as many of the packs are korean/chinese, but unsure as also eastern european and english brands are available.

The government engineered this situation with its ridiculous taxation policy, it was effective up to a point but it's becoming reminiscent of the era of alcohol prohibition in the USA.

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on (September 2024)? on Sunday September 29, 2024 @11:27PM (#41693258)
That's pretty awesome, wasn't expecting typescript support too, and thought it would just be bound to the Unity/C# API but you've added support for rendering modern React into Unity as well.

If this was made for Godot I'd pay you.

Re:Tell HN: your next idea should focus on aged care on Saturday July 13, 2024 @10:26PM (#40958403)
This is available to anyone in Australia, although ~$500-600 a week isn't enough to support the carer and the one they care for in most personal circumstances. https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/carer-payment

Note: In order to improve the readability of the text, the masculine form is used to refer to persons, functions, etc. However, it stands for all genders without exception.

Thats why should use electricity to free all camels from the servitude of the desert plains.

That's about camels eating cactus.

Bullshit, the jQuery "Ajax" API is a hellish convoluted nightmare with zero consistency.

https://api.jquery.com/category/ajax/

Have you seriously looked at this and thought "yeah thats better than using a single native function (fetch)"?

As for the rest of the API - what would you even use besides the css and selector functions? Which again, the native `classList` and a simple bind to the selectors are simpler and less verbose.

Re:Htmx is part of the GitHub Accelerator on Wednesday August 16, 2023 @08:01AM (#37145727)

  const $ = document.querySelector.bind(document)
  const $$ = document.querySelectorAll.bind(document)
Isolated temporally aggregated pastiche is a medium some artists revel to work with, unfortunately the first adjective is often missing from the metaphor, and the blind keep pushing the clay further from the points of realization upon the artists fingers.

I started naively implementing something similar in a project before reading more about TOAT loops and langchain.

Though the project makes a decent GUI to use ChatGPT if anyone is interested: https://github.com/blipk/gptroles

You can run and edit code snippets in the chat interface

You can also see this sometimes in the development of Gnome
Re:ChatGPT and Code Interpreter = Magic on Sunday March 26, 2023 @10:32AM (#35314830)
I've been working on this which has some similar functionality in a desktop app: https://github.com/blipk/gptroles

It's still in development, but you can currently run bash and python from any markdown code blocks in the chat.

I'm working on getting a terminal emulator over the code blocks for better integration.

That's not true at all, there's no discreet object recognition.

You would still need to create maps for colliders, navigation etc. As well as break the flat mesh this provides down into discreet objects if you wanted any more physics integration.

It doesn't look like it creates any discreet models from the different parts of the room, it's just a flat mesh.

So it's a lot of work to still to create an object that makes integrateable with anything else.

It actually initialises it at one horizontal plane downards if you mark 3 plane divisions on half the screen at the golden intersection from the center to each previous mark.

Couldn't you have just logged out?

I got this result in a similar literary prompt, this was using irc pipe with a jailbreak role

Re:Show HN: Pysh – run shell commands in Python on Sunday March 19, 2023 @08:36PM (#35225543)
It's possible but I haven't tested it enough to iron out any kinks.

And right now the main routines are return-blocked by an environment variable (PYSH_ROOT) thats set when the first pysh wrapper is started.

Feel free to remove these and test how well it works for you.

EDIT: I might have misunderstood, if they're in an import they wont be parsed right now, you would need to run pysh() in there too. I haven't tested so I'm not sure how this will work.

I agree, the code is pretty average, inconsistently using quotation marks, looks copy pasted and developer comments trying to understand what they're doing. The concept isn't too novel either, LLM usage in knowledge base querying is nothing new, I know some lawyers looking into it for regulatory compliance.

The KnowledgeGPT repo linked by another commenter seems more interesting.

did these pigs agree to be the subject of NDEs?
I get similar errors with FastAPI, I believe it's due to compiled routes/code being run separately in the web server etc, it's really up to the Django and FastAPI devs to implement proper traces here.
If you read the article the person who is buying them is "An emergency room doctor and addiction specialist" who is trying to keep the rural hospitals open and functional, in order to help people and communities.

I don't doubt what you say maybe happening, though I imagine that would be a lot of larger rural center hospitals.

It still baffles me that only ~20% of your hospitals are government owned, and equally as many for-profit.

Re:Tell HN: Best Use for old iPads (that I found) on Sunday January 15, 2023 @09:07PM (#34395964)
I'm a semi-occasional smoker, and I never litter the butts, there's usually a bin nearby or I keep it in my pocket and look for one ASAP because they stink awful. Additive-free tobacco smells a lot less though.

You can see other smokers doing it right when there's a bin nearby too, I've questioned them and never get an answer.

I think many people just live so thoughtlessly and carelessly, the rest of the city is dirty so why should they bother? It's really not much of an effort though.
