If you have some tech skills and want something truly cheap, set it up directly with twillio, they have a basic scripting thing that can allow you to forward calls and such (chatgpt can help there) and the numbers are at something like a dollar a month iirc.
I do not claim to have a neutral position, I vote in every election, especially on the local level, where I actually express my non-neutral position.

It is also essentially impossible not to hear about the major things happening in the country, so staying informed is not much of an issue these days.

On the other hand driving yourself mad by doomscrolling and liking dozens and dozens of random posts about some random crap someone did that day does no good for anybody.

Very happy with the people doing that, keeps the place sane. If you want a dozen daily hysterical takes on the latest thing that Trump&co did, go on r/politics. I have no interest in seeing any of that here.
You have to click on the "Chat" option at the top left corner, then it'll use the 70B model. I got stuck on that too til I figured that out.
Re:The case against caffeine on Monday February 19, 2024 @10:13AM (#39430605)
It's probably best to treat the articles like these (and the dietary advice in general) as an invitation to experiment and see how it works for your particular case, not as a definitive statement that "X is good for everyone always, Y is bad for everyone always"
Very, very interesting to see all these random accounts immediately showing up in mass to defend the Kremlin. Especially on a post like this, where it is not some outlandish accusation. Those countries are coming up on a third year of a full scale war, it'd be more surprising if they didn't have a disinformation campaign to discredit each other.

My favorite story related to the south pole medivacs is the russian scientist that had to be evacuated after he got stabbed by his colleague for supposedly spoiling the endings of books they had at the station:

Re:Wealth Shown to a Pixel Scale on Friday October 20, 2023 @01:47PM (#37959248)
Yeah, that works wonderfully when it's enforced. That's why the most prosperous countries with the highest quality of life are all communist, just redistribute everything equally from the most productive and everyone becomes rich, simple as that.

Is it just me or is there a noticeable increase of the "left to far left" comments on HN recently? I don't remember seeing that much of a "eat the evil rich exploiting the poor and virtuous" stuff here before. People migrating from twitter?

Mitsubishi Pajero is another great one:

Mitsubishi marketed the SUV as the Montero in North America, Spain, and Latin America (except for Brazil and Jamaica) due to the term "pajero" being derogatory (meaning "wanker") in Spanish

> The correct answer to the question: "How do I use a hammer to tighten a screw" isn't a lengthy description of how to perform some magic with a hammer. The correct answer is: "You don't. Use a screwdriver."

My car broke down in the middle of the desert because of a screw that came loose and all I have is a hammer. You have just condemned me to death because you assume you know better.

Re:Help Locked out of 10 years Gmail account on Tuesday December 27, 2022 @09:20AM (#34148843)
Not necessarily. I've two accounts that I couldn't access for multiple years now, google simply refuses to let me in despite having all of the correct credentials.

For anyone reading this, do not rely on google services, you'll move cities, change your number, or as OP change your password and _you will get locked out_ with no recourse.

Re:Ask HN: Gmail account security on Sunday January 23, 2022 @05:55PM (#30051435)
I'd suggest not to rely on google for anything you wouldn't want to lose.
Re:Ask HN: Gmail account security on Sunday January 23, 2022 @05:51PM (#30051395)
Yep, have had that issue for over a year now, I am completely unable to access my old gmail account despite having the password, recovery email and everything else.

Just says "you can’t sign in" and that's it: https://i.imgur.com/4YrElkJ.png

Happened to me as well, except I could never get back the access. This is how it permanently looks like: https://i.imgur.com/4YrElkJ.png

Re:Ask HN: How did you learn math notation? on Thursday November 25, 2021 @08:48AM (#29341326)
Related question, does anyone know of any websites/books that have mathematical notation vs the computer code representing the same formula side by side? I find that seeing it in code helps me grasp it very quickly.
Well, luckily Chile is the largest copper producer in the world
Thank you!
Would a startup founder with a history of various fairly popular, but not huge projects have a chance applying for an O-1 visa, or do you have to be a celebrity of some sort (in business/science/etc) to get it?

Ask HN: VoIP number that is not blocked by services and can recieve short codes?

More and more services require 2 factor sms verification to sign in, but some of us travel internationally and often change phone numbers. There are many VoIP providers, but the vast majority of those phone numbers are either blocked completely by most services or can't receive short code sms.Does anyone know of a reliable option of getting a phone number that would work over internet, while...

That's already the case. If their algorithms decide that your activity is "unusual", they can disable your ability to login with literally no option to bypass it.

Keep that in mind when you e.g. go traveling.

There's a great youtube channel called Tasting History that does that sort of thing all the time. His most popular video is also about making garum:

Re:Facebook Renames to Meta on Thursday October 28, 2021 @02:35PM (#29029640)
Meta for Metastasis
The Economist is the most honest and relatively unbiased news source I could find. They do explicitly lean towards classical liberalism, but the reporting still seems objective enough.
No longer the case. EB5 requires $1,800,000 that can be reduced to $900,000 if it's in the Targeted Employment Area.
Is that your first startup or have you done any other projects? If you can show some previous achievements O-1 could be an option: https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/temporary...
