And an update to this. https://twitter.com/RudyGiuliani/status/1070118915139923968

Now Rudy Giuliani, our country's cybersecurity adviser, says this is all a Twitter conspiracy.

This is a nice presentation that helped solidify some concepts for me: https://www.infoq.com/presentations/A-Tale-of-Three-Trees
Another item is dating based on the stars. If you want to record a date you can record the position of the stars and planets. Such dating is attempted for the mahabharata and other Indian epics, but the language is very flowery so it is difficult to ascertain exactly.
Re:SEC tightens the noose on ICO-funded startups on Wednesday October 10, 2018 @04:22PM (#18188495)
Recently congress members have written to the SEC asking for clarity on crypto: https://www.chepicap.com/en/news/4016/15-members-of-congress...

They want to draft legislation for regulatory clarity. So we can be sure ICO's will be addressed in that.

US regulatory environment is built for corporate profits (so that money can go to politicians) before public safety.

Wasn't there a lot of economic instability in the soviet union? The Chinese leadership must have understood that and took on economic prosperity as the main way to preserve their government.
This new website is doing a nice job: http://www.cmlviz.com/
I didn't understand from the article about a "shampoo bottle with bubbles left in it". This diagram seems simple enough.
In USA the large companies who will lose profits from simple alternatives will make up reasons to not lose their profits.

It's more a wealth transfer mechanism from younger people to take out loans to fund these inefficiences. And those loans are gauranteed against a person's lifetime earnings since they cannot be removed via bankruptcy.

Remove the financial incentives for inefficient work and you will get 10,000 ways to make universities more efficient.

JRuby can solve that problem. Threading in Ruby. Some companies do use it: https://github.com/jruby/jruby/wiki/SuccessStories
Re:Meeting the W-15 Electric Pickup Truck on Wednesday August 22, 2018 @12:40PM (#17819961)
I have a BMW i3 with the range extender and it is very practical. I start it when I know I will travel beyond battery capacity.

You could avoid it on cars, but for a truck it makes a lot of sense.

The Chinese have an active propaganda machine for decades which tells all Chinese people the world is out to get them. They have completely internalized that. This makes them defensive and nationalistic so they can defend whatever the state does to them.
Because federal employees cannot practically be fired it is very common to try to move them sideways to get rid of them. Eventually they just get promoted.
I agree, I think the last bubble was when everyone was talking about it. Everyone wanted a piece and people were buying bitcoin hearing about the massive gains. I guess that's when the whales took profit.

The focus now by the whales to broaden the ~~sucker~~ buyer base via the ETF's.

The blockchain buzz has also been correlated to the bitcoin price. Both seem to have gone done.

Wall Street wants to trust it's money to miners in China? The whole mining concept is ridiculous, but they have probably done stupider things so it could happen.
As a 41 yr old I am glad I am too old for this.
An IT person who used to do be an engineer on a merchant ship told me that in IT finding the problem takes time but the fix is quick. But in physical mechanical work finding the problem is usually easy but the fix takes time. Sounds cute at least!

I remember when they had the $1 cost it was 1 year free. They captured you in that time and then you didn't mind paying the $1 when all your friends were on it.
Re:Whole House Fan and Evaporative Cooler on Monday July 23, 2018 @12:05PM (#17593651)
Yes I edited my comment. Looks like the approach of vaayu is to directly do evaporative cooling. So a chilled water swamp cooler. The commercial systems use the chilled water in closed coils.
Re:Whole House Fan and Evaporative Cooler on Monday July 23, 2018 @10:37AM (#17593052)
There is a somewhat new company out of India which has an improved approach. As others mentioned, swamp coolers have been around for a long time, especially in India. They are not popular anymore but AC's are expensive.

Their approach is use the refrigerative compressor to chill water for an cooler instead of chilling the air.

The efficiency is greatly improved and they claim 10% of running costs.
