Re:GUIs should be fully keyboard-driven on Friday August 28, 2026 @04:00PM (#49483494)
TUI, GUI.. we need a marriage of both, with configurable levels of integration, which controls to favour TUI or GUI. If it's well done, no need for a mouse, but nice and easy to have. Add to this a thin glove checking for certain movement patterns when the user is not typing and voice to set certain things - all at once.
Re:Medieval-style fortifications are back in the Sahel on Sunday July 05, 2026 @03:01PM (#48796946)
Is there anyway to actually read the article without paying?
Re:Fable 5 Is Back on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @04:41PM (#48752821)
Not exactly. Every time I ask something using Fable, it switches to Opus. The subjects (and I tried many) seem to be irrelevant.

Basically, I can't use Fable.

Re:One Million Passports Leaked Online on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @07:29AM (#48731146)
I'm sorry to say this, but most people don't care. Most governments don't care. Companies don't care. Not that it's not important. But protecting people's ID is at the lower part of the list for most organizations. There are hardly any consequences. Leaking PII is still a joke nowadays.
Hopefully, Canada will not get bullied by US for selling it cheaply.
Re:'Ghost jobs' could soon be illegal in New York on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @05:14PM (#48562215)
My company does it all the time. I've noticed all these ghost jobs are advertised in the same large city (Toronto), yet our offices are elsewhere.
AI being a Yes-Man is slowly sabotaging it's own answers, because it negatively impact the user's decision. Yes/No are equally important, within a coherent context, for objective reasons. But being supported in the wrong direction is a castastrophe multiplier, down the road. The AI should be neutral, doubtful at times.
Re:How to make a damn website (2024) on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @06:41PM (#46610145)
With the amount of crap and complexity we now have online, I miss gopher and well arranged text files.
Re:Amazon S3 Adds Put-If-Match (Compare-and-Swap) on Monday November 25, 2024 @08:27PM (#42241750)
Could you use a meta field from the object and save the hash in it, running a compare from it?
Re:Morsle – The daily Morse code challenge on Monday October 21, 2024 @05:59PM (#41908954)
I recall listening to a cassette that would go through the alphabet, like a song. I tried hard, but never really got the hang out of it. But this time, Morsle would build the bridge more easily.
Upon registering for an account on Clicked.com to access intro cybersecurity courses, I encountered a field inquiring about my sexual orientation. I'm uncertain as to why Clicked.com would collect such data. I wonder if this is a growing trend among career-oriented online platforms (or anything common really).

Is this asked for diversity and inclusion purposes? Are they simply collecting data to resell or marketing purpose? What is your take on it?

Re:Storm Get a Wikipedia-like report on your topic on Wednesday September 18, 2024 @09:06AM (#41579254)
Yes, and it's not possible to delete the account (or association with).
Re:Storm Get a Wikipedia-like report on your topic on Wednesday September 18, 2024 @09:03AM (#41579227)
A very interesting project. Btw, I could not find a way to delete my account when created. I've also found that the generated report is very generic and quickly goes outside the actual question or specific theme/keywords used.

A final point, the notice states that "The risks associated with this study are minimal. Study data will be stored securely, in compliance with Stanford University standards, minimizing the risk of confidentiality breach." When I use STORM, I can see other people's request. Are they supposed to be confidential?

Re:The case for not sanitising fairy tales on Monday June 24, 2024 @04:47PM (#40780552)
I recall a quote from Mr. Gaiman:

“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” ― Neil Gaiman, Coraline

Here's a door: [#]
Not saving or updating well? Can't find updated result in table.

Re:Making a PDF that's larger than Germany on Wednesday January 31, 2024 @07:48PM (#39211628)
For a moment I wasn't sure if I wanted to click on the link.
Re:23andMe is reportedly turning the blame back on its customers on Wednesday January 24, 2024 @12:34PM (#39120077)
By default, we should offer a choice for levels of security. At least a password, with SMS or 2FA. And if the company makes a few bucks, even more options.
Re:Vector Databases: A Technical Primer [pdf] on Friday January 12, 2024 @09:14PM (#38976709)
If I read organized data from a traditional db, and add new tables based on potential similarities from the existing data/tables, with scores, would that be a vector db?
Re:23andMe confirms hackers stole ancestry data on 6.9M users on Tuesday December 05, 2023 @07:05AM (#38529828)
How convenient.
Re:The Unix-Haters Handbook (1994) [pdf] on Wednesday November 29, 2023 @04:32PM (#38465622)
I can't wait for an AI/OS to simply ask it what I need to do.
Super game, but after it's done, how do you restart the game (world level)?
Being finally able to work in US, after 15 months of spending savings to survive. Ouch.
'Breakthrough'
Re:Atomic Rocket on Tuesday October 24, 2023 @07:46AM (#37997730)
That would be a gift.
Re:Woman's Pockets Are Inferior on Tuesday October 24, 2023 @07:30AM (#37997543)
If women wanted larger pockets, they would be using them. But they prefer not - based on market, preference and selection.
