Sounds more like I'm challenging your values . . . how can you not blame agents (people) for acting to further something you don't like? Those people have a choice, and they're choosing to further something you don't like, how is it not logical to blame the people for making that choice?

What you're saying is what's usually said about animals, "don't blame the bear for eating you if it's hungry and you're there". Only difference is that animals are pure instinct, whereas people aren't.

"don't hate the player, hate the game."

Why can't I hate both? That's how values work, I don't value his methods, and I don't value the person that chooses the methods I don't value.

'I personally believe that the "mysterious creature" concept stems from women being more emotional'

Why do you think women (as a gender) are more emotional?

and he's also getting a nice return on his angel investment in tellapart . . . which twitter acquired a month ago for $.5 Billion.
Re:Welcoming TellApart to Twitter on Tuesday April 28, 2015 @08:37PM (#9455929)
Congrats to Dick Costolo for being an angel investor in TellApart. Nice win!
Or how about an illegal bust of George Washington.
Or maybe they would've removed it, and until they did left it uncovered. Neither of us know what they would've done.

Not sure what China or France doing things has to do with how we do things in the US.

Re:SeatGeek Raises $62M on Friday April 03, 2015 @02:28PM (#9317515)
(Reuters) - The world's largest concert promoter, Live Nation Inc, plans to buy Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc for about $400 million in stock, aiming to create a company with dominant holdings in concert promotion and ticket sales.

Re:SeatGeek Raises $62M on Thursday April 02, 2015 @10:06PM (#9314160)
seatgeek has an amazing ui, maybe the best ui for finding tickets. That alone is very valuable. The problem is that with this round total raised is $100M. VC's expect to double or triple their money, as par. That sets a simplified expected exit valuation of $300M for this to be a success. Ticketmaster was last sold for $400MM in 2009. The bar for success is now extremely high. Anything below the high expectations generally means that this fantastic product will be considered a failure and most likely sold for scrap. What a horrible situation, why create these artificial expectations?
Re:Tell Sam Altman: I will take your bet on Thursday March 26, 2015 @05:15PM (#9273184)
I think that's the problem, that this is considered fun. Some people also like to measure their dicks . . .
What are the specific acts that people of faith were being forced to perform or approve of that contradict their faith?
Unless you believe in an after-life or that God protects you.
yes, there are people that want to the right to not serve gay people at chik-fil-a.

Substitute the word 'same-sex' with 'black' in that famous example you mention and it should become obvious why laws like that are needed (and were needed 50 years ago).

Or how about the most obvious one, killing ie. wars. Conventional American Christianity and the military are very closely tied; how that disconnect is ignored is beyond me.
Re:We are under attack on Thursday March 19, 2015 @07:28PM (#9235281)
That's a fair response to that case.

Still curious about this quote: “We don’t do anything to thwart the content restrictions in China or other countries,” said Matthew Prince, chief executive of CloudFlare. “We’re a tech company and we comply with the law.”"

So if Lantern were a customer, would the outcome still have been the same?

Personally, I think it's ego. Most meetings I've been in are just showcases of dick length. The best idea rarely, unfortunatley, wins the day. And it's getting worse. Venture Captial is a hits/deal driven endeavor. The more hits one gets the bigger asshole they usually become. And when youre in a room of 'hit'-makers, well there's very little room for different ideas. Its nothing new, history is full of examples. Not everyone is like this of course, but a lot are, and more are becoming. Just part of the natural cycle.

On a somewhat related not, it helps to remeber the 'con' in 'con man' refers to the word 'confidence'. Confidence is not necessarily a good personal value.

yes, but how do you turn on the new profit?

Through stock appreciation, not net income distribution.

SuperFish is based in Palo Alto and funded by DFJ.
Terrorism: the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.

I'm pretty certain American revolutionaries used violence and intimidation against British soldiers and British property in the pursuit of political aims.

Do you disagree?

Re:A new team at Reddit on Thursday November 13, 2014 @05:07PM (#8604463)
Daly City is 9.7 miles from the reddit office, for all practical purposes it sounds like Yishan wanted to just move offices in the same city; the Daly City part doesn't seem like it's important. Or am I missing something?
Re:Firebase is Joining Google on Tuesday October 21, 2014 @02:03PM (#8488747)
Congrats on achieving your goal, it's always a good thing when people get to where they want to go. I'm not trying to be a dick with this: when you say "Firebase is here to stay" you have to be sensitive to history which shows that might not be an honest statement; you can't guarantee that if you no longer own Firebase. I think everyone appreciates your goal will be to keep Firebase strong and growing, but its future is not entirely in your hands.
Re:Yahoo Nears Investment in Snapchat on Friday October 03, 2014 @03:41PM (#8407253)
If you have expenses and no revenue, by definition there's no earnings.
Re:Yahoo Nears Investment in Snapchat on Friday October 03, 2014 @03:12PM (#8407094)
Revenue!? Usually owners realize value by getting a dividend from earnings. Can't believe we're back at this point, again.
Re:Reddit’s crappy ultimatum to remote workers and offices on Thursday October 02, 2014 @09:43PM (#8404077)
assuming the details are true, I cant find any good reason for doing something so heavy handed and corporate. It's the number of people involved (approx half the employees) that makes this an asshole move.
Re:This pitch-deck is a beauty on Thursday September 18, 2014 @05:37PM (#8337776)
Nice click-baity title for self promoting. This post, product, and the fact that it's on the front page drips with cheese.
Re:Peter Thiel: Competition is for losers on Saturday September 13, 2014 @02:13AM (#8311745)
The need for profit is a value (it determines sustainability). But it doesn't have to be the primary value. You get to pick that.
Re:Peter Thiel: Competition is for losers on Friday September 12, 2014 @07:08PM (#8310970)
Maybe you could say that google has a monopoly on high quality/relevant search results?
