Not a problem but they still allow auto hide taskbar only when it is at bottom of screen, this doesn't make sense.

Sure, but in this case your cpu dies or ram dies or ssd dies, in all cases you loose data, in an upgradable system you loose data when ssd dies. Different risk factors.

But isn't using Qt like learning a whole new layer of language on top of C++, the meta compiler, signal/slot system etc and then Qt have its own set of standard classes like QString (instead of using std::string)

It would still be a secure consumer phone if the process to unlock bootloader requires connecting to mac and running some commands along with accepting 10 different warnings.
This is also a reminder to not compare Macs with windows laptop as there is no such thing as "windows laptop" instead there are many different types of windows laptops with different hardware components with their own firmware and drivers developed by the different companies and a driver/firmware update from any of these companies can cause all sort of issues.

GPU do other things as well and that makes them costly.

Ask HN: Local AI product situation

Right now it seems every company wants you to buy their fancy new expensive computer to run local AI models. Why would we want to buy a whole new computer to run local AI models? Why not create a device which has its own memory and chip designed specifically to run models and it plugs into your existing computer thunderbolt port (or event USB 3.2 as loading the model is one time process).

mac treats modifier keys like modifier keys whereas windows treat super key as modifier key and start menu key (which is weird)

There are many premium Windows laptops that have same nice smooth trackpad.

Please search for "find any windows latpop that have same kind of haptic trackpad as macbook" and you will find your answer. There are many such laptops.
Re:The Forgetful CPU (Linux on M4) on Saturday October 03, 2026 @12:58AM (#49941466)
Not related to this but the other day I was searching for a good external trackpad that would work with macOS and there are very few (and not good) and every discussion was about how nothing comes close to Apple magic trackpad. The question is why can't other companies create such a good trackpad for macOS, it turns out they can't because the whole protocol for touchpad/gestures etc are proprietary and closed on macOS side so essentially any 3rd party trackpad has to emulate a mouse device. Thats what you get when a company makes computer and its OS and also its accessories and also software services, the whole stack, you either use their whole thing or not.
Does this also mean the code generated and reviewed by LLMs will not have such issues going forward?

Are you sure that you installed the virtualized GPU drivers in fedora? Did you check if fedora was still using llvmpipe (i.e CPU rendering). Did you try the x86 or ARM version of fedora?

> After decades, linux is still hard to try out.

It's not, you just need to get a proper computer to try it where the CPU/GPU company actually support linux.

Re:Goodbye Google on Friday September 25, 2026 @02:14AM (#49840740)
There is a solution to this problem of "AI going to kill everyone".

- Create powerful AI but don't release it and keep it secret.

- Ask this AI to create some sort of virus that can be delivered to every human in the world without them knowing it and this virus does a fundamental change to the human brain such that humans never ever could even think of hurting other humans.

- Release this powerful AI to everyone.

Will that work?

> I will believe KDE cares about UX once they finally fix the clock to have the same font size for date and time, like Windows does it

At least the date time on KDE taskbar is readable and you can change it to show date and time side by side and that uses same font size for both. Windows taskbar date time are so tiny (with so much empty space around it) and doesn't even change if you change font scaling.

Apple users: We won't leave apple ecosystem but those android fold phones looks cool, wish apple had something similar.

Apple: There you go.

This is the reason this exist.

Influencers job is all about creating hype, that's how they make money so if you find them annoying just ignore them.

AFAIK Omarchy is created for a specific audience i.e tech enthusiast and people who are just getting into Linux will surely find it amazing. We all have been through these phases: New to Linux -> start on standard Gnome or KDE (or Unity back in the day) -> get to know about ricing/customization/window managers -> get bored and go back to standard Gnome or KDE.

There is nothing wrong with it, this is the nature of open ecosystem of Linux. You should use whatever you like and most importantly do not get upset if something else is getting more hype these day.

If the result will be huge job loss doesn't that mean the overall buying power of all across all economies will go down drastically which begs the question who will buy the stuff that these companies that get rid of people are making?
I have disabled it many many months ago and storage still shows 9 gb of Apple intelligence.
Don't forget no income tax on "agricultural income" even if that income is millions.
Coding is the act of translating an algorithm or system design into a specific programming language/framework/libraries domain. That part was never the hard part as it was mostly about learning the syntax/conventions etc of that stack and then doing the translation. The hard part is about coming up with righ algorithms and system design for your particular software and evoling that over time without breaking it (the "evolving over time" part is the most tricky part).

Product quality has nothing to do with ubiquity. Its all about shady business deals that locks you into products where the migration cost is much higher.
Take any chronic health issue for which people have to take medicine or other treatment for the rest of life and find a cure for that (not treatment but cure). Unless you can do please STFU about AGI or ASI.
This is probably done by some udev rule file.
Why not just a share a new virtual desktop and move windows to it that you want to share?
Re:A new Android malware from Google on Thursday July 02, 2026 @05:03AM (#48758526)
AFAIK you can still install any random APK but the process will require enabling developer mode and one time 24 hour wait period. But the problem is many stupid Apps check that developer mode is on and refuse to work.
No price increase in iPhone to save the sales number, this clearly shows that Apple is iPhone first company.
