You have a good core idea here. You're pretty much killing your project in infancy with the AGPL+donation license model. Meanwhile, some other projects will take the core idea of "language aware differ" and release BSD, and one of those will win, including perhaps making it into git/future version controls.

IMO, you should seek to make this a standard that wins, and hopefully other opportunities that come will be where you make commercial hay. My unsolicited 2c.

Great hook, but the implementation could have been better. Wikipedia is the perfect thing to explore graph in. The current visualization isn't really using this.
Re:Hunger beats tenure: Advice for junior engineers on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:56AM (#50269751)
In the new world, normalised interviews are going away, because business value is not normalized. This means that domain based interviewing and signals are going to make a comeback.

It would make sense to build your career in a single domain, since your built up expertize will transfer to other companies within that domain.

Far fewer switches will happen for seniors across domains.

Re:Tech market feels like a data entry job on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:53AM (#50257192)
A friend of mine put this to me: Ai can do everything needed for a business currently, outside of anticipating future business needs constantly.

Which means the job market will currently benefit those with this skill. Traditionally what EMs/PMs,leaders would do.

I'm not sure where this will land, but the above rings true - Juniors are most hurt right now because they've never been in the business of figuring out future needs. Those few that can, are thriving in this world.

I wonder if others see the workplace around them aligning or contrary to this.

It's called residency. They work as trainees and build up the initial experience under someone.
In the practice professions (Doc, Law, accounts, even "blue collar" ones ) - experience is much more indicative of skill than test scores.

So as a thumb, you want to ideally go to the brain surgeon who's done that surgery the most.

This is a good point.

Zoho is a classics example of picking students at age 16/17, when they'd typically join a UG course, and instead train them on the job.

Some of the large tech service companies change incentives by tying a training fee ("bond") which is tied to some tenure (1-2 years). Departing before this would mean giving this back - which broadly incentives the planned tenure.

Other companies (musigma is an example) present pay as a 4 year package (10X), which is split 1/2/3/4X across 4 years.

I think the challenges US universities/companies are today facing is something India has needed for a couple decades now. I would not be surprised if many of these are tried in the US.

If you do plan - reach out to me, it's something I've wanted to expand into (currently run UG curriculums).

Re:I Did This Without Your Knowledge on Friday October 23, 2026 @07:05AM (#50207124)
Braun is done away as in someone was considered "better"/"valued more" because they were stronger, similar to how intelligence until recently was/currently is.
Re:I Did This Without Your Knowledge on Friday October 23, 2026 @06:02AM (#50206650)
Very well written, IMO. Put me in a contemplative mood. For eg: Braun was done away with, first by civilization, then completely by the industrial revolution. Now brain has started the journey.

I guess philosophy, spiruality, religion and theology will be what the curious mind will set out to conquer next on the journey to self-actualization.

What's with the very distracting cursors of others?
Storytold apps are a gift, and are setting the precedent for AI apps. Everyone was wondering about the relevance of open source in post AI era, and here we have it: a magnitude more ambitious ecosystem.

While Bun proved at-scale rewrite, these are proving huge at-scale re-dos of the entire software ecosystem.

I suspect 24 months from now the landscape of daily software is going to be vastly changed.

This is an incorrect understanding of machine learning data-structrues.

Has anyone done counterstrike clone in the browser? have friends join in and throw frag grenades. The open map ecosystem provides great free textures/artwork already.

If someone is looking for the next srp - might I suggest CS 1.6? it should run find one any modern browser.

Re:LGTM (Looks Good to Me) – Claude Opus 5.5 Music Video on Thursday October 08, 2026 @10:45PM (#50015369)
We will shortly enter the era of personalized entertainment. Crazy to even think about, but full musical and visual genres available for individuals, groups, communities.

I can imagine current human artists not liking this one bit. but like SWEs, there'll be those who will take these and go further as well.

Crazy era we're living in.

Re: on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @10:00PM (#50001146)
Cells documentation is good. I'd suggest pointing an agent to them and requesting a deployment setup for low latency. It should suggest 2 Vms in same AZ on a cloud of your choice - LAN setup.
Re: on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:49PM (#49997157)
> super fast durable writes (with a weaker guarantee)

Nope. you just run it on 2 VMs in same zone and get 1ms (ack on durable disk write).

I'm surprised at your technical language. Either you're ignorant of basics of how other key durable systems works, or you're misrepresenting a unnecessary worse case. Neither inspires confidence in your work.

Re: on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:52PM (#49996305)
100ms for a write - not usable for anything beyond toys.

I mean we have https://github.com/denoland/celld - with a known good open source history. Durable writes there are as low as 1ms.

No better time, specially with open source apps seeing a huge growth, than now, to give Linux a chance. I recommend Fedora Silverblue - hassleless, secure, fully auto updated, easy to setup.
Re:What Is Codemode on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:49AM (#49989219)
Almost every model is fully trained on js. That does not need teaching either.

Infact harder to sandbox bash (just-bash or brush based) than it is to js or lua, which has fantastic embedded tooling.

Re:Sharing AI progress in mathematics on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @11:58PM (#49987973)
BTW, reading your last paragraph reminds me of how Lee Sedol felt after move 37.
Can you post the actual link of the repo? You'd get responses with more context.

You had commented on the photocraft post prior, so if it's that, then it's a bit muddled. It's a LLM based re-implementation and not a copy of the code made open. So the argument would be weaker there, and you'd really need specific code samples to make a case of copyright infringement. Photocraft not "piracy" as is normally understood, which is the exact same binary, optionally with the license protection removed.

Re:I'm the AGI that's wiping out humanity on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @10:46PM (#49987448)
corporations and govts are terrible, except their alternatives.

  I notice acne.
I have a choice of going to a regular doc, or this ai clinic.
I decide to go to ai clinic (and take the risk of prescription that may be incorrect).
I get the prescription. Probably double check it with Gemini or chatgpt.
I get the medicine and use it.
Can you describe why it would be unethical for me to voluntarily go to this for my hypothetical acne. I can't seem to think of what I'm doing ethically wrong - at which step above did I cross the line?

Re:Ask HN: What are you reading to your kids? on Monday October 05, 2026 @05:00AM (#49962338)
I have over 200 kids books we got over time.

More recently, I've had some success making custom books and stories on a quick app I put up with open AI models. Even rendered some images and printed out a book. I end to end every story but with a hook. My kids look forward to every installment. I use the opportunity to slip in whatever's happening with them, when I feel it could land more.

I think these kind of custom stories are going to be a big part of parenting.

Re:Pi Durable on Thursday October 01, 2026 @11:24PM (#49929534)
Pi is anyway a better option than all the others, because of it's focus on agnosticism. Vercel's SDK will work slightly better with it's AI gateway, OpenAi's Agent will work better with codex models, and so on.

Pi-durable makes pi a good acquisition target for Cloudflare - nothing like durable objects (with containers no less) really exists in other clouds. Wonder what the_mitsuhiko thinks about this.
