Re:How I won $2,750 using JavaScript, AI, and a can of WD-40 on Thursday August 15, 2024 @02:11AM (#41253506)
Me and my friend were fans of LinuxForU magazine, now OpenSourceForU. I once wrote a reply or so and it was printed in next edition. Inspired by that, we wrote an article, a simple one. That too was printed in next edition. We got a little money also from it, I think.

Re:Ask HN: Where are laid off employees gathering? on Monday February 20, 2023 @09:15PM (#34875648)
Not sure of the co-operatives in software. I am from state of Kerala, India. We have a number of very successful and long running co-operatives.

1. Milma - Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing federation. Virtually every household uses and trusts milma. It has been around for 53 years.

2. Indian Coffee House - It is a worker co-operative restaurant chain. Very successful and is around since 1958.

3. ULCCS - India's oldest worker co-operative. Operating from 1925, mainly in construction sector. It also has an IT wing.

Re:Update on Supply of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max on Sunday November 06, 2022 @09:15PM (#33500253)
Similar to what happened to migrant workers in India during Initial lockdown. Many had to walk thousands of kms to reach their hometowns.

I remember admissions form of children (not sure which Indian state) that contains Aadhar (UID of India) listed in a server with directory listing enabled. Response was - the site is hosted in a secure government datacenter. No chance of leaking data.

Re:I Got Banned for Life from Airbnb (2018) on Thursday September 08, 2022 @05:00AM (#32763076)
They can't do anything. I was not getting proper name in fb, so I changed my name in ID a bit using photoshop and they accepted without any issues.

Just block out the ID numbers and all and how will they identity?

Even private providers are affordable.
Re:GitHub is adding web cookies for enterprise users on Tuesday August 02, 2022 @11:17PM (#32327244)
Developer here. Its much easier and a lazy way to enable for everyone, rather than tracking ips, citizenship and show accordingly. Developers are lazy.
Re:IPv6 Only Cloud Server on Friday July 29, 2022 @12:12AM (#32273063)
I think around 7-8 years back, a VPN with ipv4 was $1.5 per month more expensive than one with ipv6 only. It should have been much more now.
Re:Fake Dog for Home Security on Wednesday July 27, 2022 @10:39PM (#32259918)
My childhood home didn't had a lock. We were all surrounded by relatives. Everyone knew everyone else. Sadly, not anymore. (I am from Kerala, India)
Re:Niantic undergoes layoffs, cancels four games on Wednesday July 13, 2022 @10:21PM (#32091272)
Remembering my Ingress days. It was the best. Was able to travel and meet a lot of people. Great community. They were not able to keep my interest. I was a key player in South India.

Re:Ask HN: Why do you use a VPN? on Tuesday July 05, 2022 @11:57PM (#31996547)
1. My country randomly blocks websites and services. VPN is essential. 2. Have to access some sites and services with geoIP restrictions. 3. Accessing certain sites and all which I don't want to be tracked. 4. To avoid exposing my IP.

Re:Exchanging Old Banknotes on Wednesday June 15, 2022 @02:03AM (#31749623)
Note that it didn't end very well for India. The initial claims are conveniently forgotten and people just suffered. More than 99% of the currency got returned anyway, contradicting government's claims.
Interviewer here.

When a programmer goes through a question fast and jumps right into the solution, there is two possibilities. One is candidate already knows the question. Two is candidate is exceptional programmer. If the other part of the interview doesn't match up to this, then we will assume the first case.

I definitely place candidates who are being honest upfront above others. They will be reliable and trustworthy, which is important quality for programmers.

If you are using company account, company owns the data. The data produced during company time is company's property. Company has to request for deletion. Slack is right about it.

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Learning? on Friday June 25, 2021 @12:59PM (#27633401)
Micromasters in Statistics and Data Science - MITx. I didn't realize that it involve this much maths when I started. It is really pushing my boundaries by a huge margin.

Machine learning - how it works behind the scenes was really insightful.

(Currently working as a PHP backend developer, Drupal.)

And we used the calm times to ramp up the infrastructure. But if cases are rising beyond control, this will fail too.
Re:Singapore Covid-19 Cases DashBoard on Tuesday March 03, 2020 @04:48AM (#22473132)
Transparency is the key take away. Official government whatsapp notifications helped curb fake news. The information was readily available. Ministers and other senior health officials was on the news, providing accurate information.

The contact tracing and isolation was near perfect. Strict measures were taken for people who disobeyed orders and put people in danger.

Re:Singapore Covid-19 Cases DashBoard on Tuesday March 03, 2020 @04:44AM (#22473111)
There are Indian citizens who are affected. Local transmission didn't happen as India made prompt effort to cancel chineese visas and health screening in airports who come from affected countries.

Also, quarantine efforts for rescued citizens from Wuhan was efficiently done.
