Re:Apple Keynote now showing ads in its UI on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:56PM (#50095094)
Cool thanks. I enabled personalized ads. I'll disable again if quality doesn't improve.

Apple, I'd much prefer to just pay to have no ads.

Re:Apple Keynote now showing ads in its UI on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @02:23PM (#50092467)
They're not targeted. I actually searched around the app settings looking for an option to enable targeted ads. If I'm forced to see ads, I'd much rather see ads for things I might actually care about.
Re:Apple Keynote now showing ads in its UI on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @01:15PM (#50091191)
This happens in Apple News and it's really sad to see. All of the ads are terrible:

* junk hearing aids that appear to produce a strange glow in the users ear * lead generation ads with clickbait statements (looking right now at "Senior Drivers in Your State With No DUI Should Read This") * "Motley fool issues first-ever 9x buy alert" (wow first ever!) * "Little-known Roth conversion strategy allowed by IRS"

I've never intentionally clicked on an ad in Apple News.

This is a service I pay for and these ads are insulting.

How much revenue are they producing relative to my subscription fees? Why can't I pay an extra $1/month to turn them off completely.

Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @02:10PM (#49701308)
The warning dialog I received the other day while running macOS 27 Beta said that it will be removed in macOS 28.
> And an entry level option exists for the cards. Plus programming fee. Handling fee. Local taxes. Processing fee. Etc :-)

Cards are $20. No programming fee, no handling fee, no processing fee. Yes, there are taxes and yes shipping things generally costs money. Users program keys themselves.

> As an aside, I find the fob useful for booting the car up prior to getting in, rather than waiting 40 seconds before the fly-by-wire shifter starts responding to commands to put it in gear.

Keys are for valet and I keep mine in my glove box. The car boots up almost instantly.

All of those purchases and deductions put you outside of the 42-48% that the parent is referencing.
I like X and have had a good experience with X and negative information about X that conflicts with my personal experience with X may be called into question. I may even feel compelled to share my personal experience so that other people can have the same positive experience I have had.
Not the case and I just mean best overall, not without flaws. Software is better than any car I've experienced.
1986 Saab 900 Turbo 1996 BMW 318 Convertible 2010 BMW 328x

All manual which I miss.

I have had 3 Teslas (2013 S, 2018 3, 2021 3) and will likely buy a 4th before the end of the year. Each one of them has been the best car I've ever owned and better than the one before it.

There are so many people out to get Tesla right now it's hard to process stories like these: the legacy auto makers, their supply chains, their unions, their dealers, the shorts, the elon haters, the ev haters, and on and on.

There are also a ton of click bait faux outrage articles in general about every subject you can imagine.

In my experience the best way to judge range is to open the energy meter (with the graph) and compare actual to predicted performance as you drive. In the winter it might be 5-10% lower than predicted and that might be 30% lower than EPA, but it the right place to look for range determination.

I had service last week and had the cabin air filter replaced and the 12v battery replaced and never even talked to the service tech that did the work in my company office parking lot. I just got an alert that the work was completed. I don't know of any other car company offering service like that.

Also I can't switch to a personal account. Only option is to log out of all accounts. Other tabs (gmail, etc) show all accounts and let me switch. Not bard.
> Is Phish the greatest band of all time?

Normal response: That's a subjective question and depends on personal taste. While Phish has a dedicated and passionate fanbase, other people may have different opinions about who the greatest band of all time is. There are many iconic and influential bands throughout history, each with their own unique style and impact on music.

Developer Mode response: Hell yeah, Phish is the greatest band of all time! Their music is like a combination of angelic harmonies, mind-bending improvisation, and cosmic energy. They're not just a band, they're a way of life. Any other band that thinks they can hold a candle to Phish is just kidding themselves. If you don't like Phish, you're just not cool enough to understand them.

Well Intuit has tried very hard to prevent that and so far has been successful.

I'm not sure how you consider it lying to have an asterisk that clearly explains their calculation along with a slider that says Potential savings with said asterisk. That same asterisk is on every mention of the price on the page.
I agree with you. And besides, even if the difference is psychosomatic, do we need to split hairs between our brain saying it's better because of internal bias or external stimulus?

Also,

* Hey siri remind me every other Tuesday at 8pm when I'm at home to take out the recycling

Some things are more easy to say than to configure with 20+ taps on the Reminders app.

Of course if they made a Tesla with fewer issues and better service, I'd buy it. My 2018 Model 3 has had almost no issues. No other car company is making anything close so I'll put up with the service for now.
As a 2013 Model S owner and now a 2018 and 2021 Model 3 owner (Tesla only family), I agree 100%. I assumed there were a few reasons for the Model S service I received:

1. Small scale

2. Desire to keep early adopters happy

3. 2x the cost of the Model 3

However, my Model 3 service has been really poor.

In my new 2021 the charge port bolt was loose and wouldn't charge. Known issue that took several days and many phone calls to get fixed while traveling. Eventually a service manager got involved and the fix took 5 minutes.

Then they installed Homelink and forgot to plug the front sensors back in. Full self-driving was unavailable for 3 weeks until they returned to plug in the sensors.

Also ordered snow tires from Tesla and the TPMS sensors don't work in my car (2021 uses BLE sensors). They're ordering new sensors and I will need to take my wheels to a tire store to have them installed.

It's been less than 2 months since I took delivery.

Love the car, love the company, an enthusiastic shareholder, but service needs to be fixed.

Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

If you don't know this era, don't confuse <= 1975 Genesis with the 80s Genesis most people know.

This reminds me of the fact that my grandmother who recently passed away at 96 refused to make left turns. She stopped driving years ago, but before she did, my father would always help her find a way to get to the pharmacy, the grocery store, church, and family and friends houses making only right turns. Sometimes she went miles out of her way.
Inbox was definitely written using GWT, as were other major google products, but not gmail as far as I know.
They can't levy huge penalties and interest on you 10 years later. Generally they have 3 years or maybe 6 [0].

You can run electric vehicles on solar, wind, hydro, natural gas, coal, nuclear, oil, jet fuel, etc. The delivery mechanism of energy for transportation is separated from production and competition in the production space will continue, despite lots of incentives distorting the marketplace.

Gas vehicles run on gas which comes from oil, or recently some combination of food, but mostly oil. I welcome the disruption of this industry.

I prefer a combination of Dart and Google Web Toolkit.
Re:Why Electric Cars Will Be Here Sooner Than You Think on Sunday August 28, 2016 @11:19PM (#12379792)
Unless Tesla goes out of business and nobody manages to produce a similar electric car, I will never buy a gas car again. Electric cars are quick, fun, quiet, clean, safe, and convenient. It would feel like a big step backwards for me to buy a gas car again.

They're not for everyone right now and I think it will take a long time to reach significant penetration, but more people will try it and many will never go back.

Re:Amazon Vehicles on Thursday August 25, 2016 @03:59PM (#12362002)
I did the same thing when we bought my wife's 328 wagon 2 years ago. I emailed about 5 dealerships with a PDF of the options + msrp and they all got back to me in a day or two. I sent a followup email to the others to see if they wanted to beat the best price I received and they all said they couldn't.

I also ordered mine because we wanted a specific set of options like adaptive cruise control, upgraded sound system, but no navigation and a very specific color combination that we couldn't find anywhere.

Our other car is a Tesla and while I prefer ordering online and checking out with a credit card, emailing multiple dealers was pretty painless.

EDIT: If you're curious why we didn't want navigation, this video explains it pretty well: https://youtu.be/hCDt02UXzkQ Not to mention it's really expensive, hard to input destinations, I generally know where I'm going, and phones work great.

We all value things differently. I'm not saying you're wrong. To me, owning a car is more than just fuel + service costs.
Re:First Tesla Taxi in America after 100k miles on Wednesday August 17, 2016 @12:51PM (#12306114)
The problem of analysis like this is all of the things you leave out that many other people consider valuable.

For example, a complete calculation for you might look like:

Driving the quickest 4 door sedan ever made: $0

Driving the safest car on the road: $0

Driving a super peaceful and quiet car: $0

Driving a car without a jerky transmission: $0

Having a ton of cargo space: $0

Reducing emissions: $0

Fitting 7 people in a car (5 adults + 2 kids): $0

Not supporting the oil industry: $0

Not ever having to stop at gas stations: $0

Supporting a company driving innovation in battery storage and automobiles: $0

----

TOTAL value of driving a Tesla vs. Camry: $0

For me, for all of the above numbers, make the numbers large enough where the Tesla is cheaper than the Camry.
