That's only part of the problem really. The other thing is how many downstream things rely on GH being up. Things like Go packages, Helm charts, blah blah...

This is dreadful

There's a lovely episode of _Welcome to Wrexham_ where they fly some fans over from Patagonia to see their football team play.
Re:The Trap of "I am not an Extrovert" on Friday December 27, 2024 @05:18AM (#42521162)
Wow. This is an incredibly insular, and empathy devoid take. The author's binary assumption that introversion and introversion are choices are incredible.

Go and do some research on neurodivergence, and then go and have a think about how harmful this advice is.

The emotional toll that it must have taken on Aditya just to be there without some grinning goon come lolloping towards him telling him just because they can do a thing anyone can do a thing must have been incredible.

Re:Dear friend, you have built a Kubernetes on Sunday November 24, 2024 @05:50PM (#42231315)
If your workloads are fairly static,ECS is fine. Bringing up new containers and nodes takes ages with very little feedback as to what's going on. It's very frustrating when iterating on workloads.

Also fargate is very expensive and inflexible. If you fit the narrow particular use case it's quicker for bringing up workloads, but you pay extra for it.

Re:Build Systems, Not Heroes on Saturday October 12, 2024 @04:27AM (#41817467)
I find it quite telling that the author quotes the "fundamental attribution error" early in the article, and then spends the rest of the article making textbook examples of exactly that.

Re:Calendar, Not Todos (2018) on Tuesday May 14, 2024 @04:09PM (#40359595)
Yeah. When you start to really research it you realise it isn't a single disorder, it's a collection of symptoms and behaviours, and everyone's collection is different.
I use https://goblin.tools/ for this and it's free. Also has a few useful features like tone analysis and recipe suggester
Re:Calendar, Not Todos (2018) on Monday May 13, 2024 @08:17AM (#40342448)
One of my particular adhd symptoms is Oppositional Defiant Disorder https://www.additudemag.com/oppositional-defiant-disorder-in...

In short, if I get to decide when to do something, that's great. If someone asks me to do it, or worse _tells_ me, this kicks in and it takes a huge effort of will to overcome my opposition to it. I've noticed this is also true of 'systems' like calendars.

If you then combine this with my impaired executive function, and difficulty I task switching (to more on the list of symptoms), you get a cocktail of both anxiety and oppositional thought, which results in me doing nothing and internalising the berating that every authority figure in my life gave me because I'm lazy, rather than having a neurodevelopmental disorder.

Re:Calendar, Not Todos (2018) on Monday May 13, 2024 @06:59AM (#40341784)
As a neurodivergent, the idea of scheduling this tightly makes me physically sick. I do need structure, even to the point of "I'm going to veg for two hours", but having it in a calendar entry will make me immediately ignore it.

To lists work really well, but I have to have a (at least) two-tier system. Stuff I'm doing now and a backlog. If all I've got is the backlog, it's too overwhelming

Re:What's Going on with ‘Nonplussed’? (2017) on Monday April 29, 2024 @09:01AM (#40197752)
As a Brit, I don't think I've ever encountered the latter meaning. I've only ever heard it to mean 'perplexed'.

Re:Why has no one made a better Goodreads on Friday April 16, 2021 @06:09PM (#26839590)
+1 for readng. But then, I'm not really fussed about other people's reviews or a recommendation engine. I just use it for logging what I've read and my own thoughts. I realise that's not everyone's goal though

I'm sure this is splendid

Re:Why a Slack Backlash Is Inevitable on Thursday August 20, 2020 @09:05PM (#24230850)
This sounds a lot more like your company culture is the issue than the tool. If you think this sort of thing didn't happen via emails, or even in the office kitchen, you're naive. If you're more interested in broad strokes like banning a tool than addressing acute bad behaviour, you shouldn't be managing people.

No deb, RPM, or nuget. Half a product really. As annoying and expensive as Nexus and Artifactory are, at least they're more fully featured.
Re:Gitlab's Guide to All-Remote on Thursday March 12, 2020 @04:36PM (#22561448)
So much this. I left my last employer because of just this. A 'fat waist' of middle-management that delivered no value and created nothing but inertia. Major incidents were a shambles of managers demanding updates over a conference call while engineers couldn't communicate effectively. Ugh
