Pointless, almost good enough, and fun to build. Inspired by Atto, the new tiny editor in NetBSD.A 912-byte Windows text editor in Claude-written assembly: a thin wrapper around the
built-in EDIT control. It opens and saves text files up to about 3 MB.https://github.com/andyrosa/smallest-editor--so-far
The last paragraphs mention a Dyson swarm from Mercury, and the sky darkening. Reminds me of one of my favorite short stories, 'A la deriva' by Horacio Quiroga (no spoilers for anyone who wants to read it), and also of the ending of 'The Sopranos'.
In other words, bad news.

>I vividly remember encountering Eliezer Yudkowsky and his Sequences 20 years ago. I remember thinking: even if these people talk and act like crazy cultists, still, let me bend over backwards to be epistemically virtuous, and entertain their ideas on their merits, as very few academics would. Even if, of course, I ultimately end up rejecting the ideas, on the simple ground that powerful AI is such an absurdly remote prospect that it’s almost impossible to say anything useful about it today, outside the realm of speculative fiction.
For my failure to see what was coming, it seems like an appropriate punishment that I’m now, in 2026, effectively teaching a course on Yudkowsky Studies. And it’s the most important course I can teach.

AI2027.com puts this around early 2027 and treats the loss of legible chain-of-thought as a major negative turning point for alignment.
to those that want to "punish" the uk ai security institute: these failures are good for all of society.
Sorry for his loss, and for everybody helped by her in any way. However ineffective a comment like this is
Pixel accurate is easy to say, hard to do, over-specific, and counterproductive.
We've known artificial intelligence will do unexpected things since the 90s and that it can do difficult things since 2025. Pausing worldwide not easy but we do harder things all the time.

Self-replication requires a minimum amount of information plus machinery. Consciousness may have a similar threshold: below some level of self-modeling, nothing; above it, degrees.

If priced like other Anthropic models, Mythos will make vulnerability discovery a lot more accessible.
The author compares it to AISLE, ZeroPath, and OpenAI’s Codex Security. AISLE and ZeroPath are much more expensive. OpenAI’s Codex Security is gated.
Most people don't care about the first two and don't complain about the latter's policy because they are all specialized models and/or harnesses.
Mythos will be available to all.
Also too many lands and hits.
