Amazon has three books listed about systems by John Gall that look very similar, is there a specific one that you're talking about? or would recommend to start with?

In 2008, SSD Array was deployed to handle images.

http://plentyoffish.wordpress.com/2008/03/27/ssd-image-serve...

2009 brought more upgrades, including move to HP ProLiant DL785 with 512 GB of ram and 32 CPUs and SQLServer 2008 and Windows 2008, and In the next week we will be upgrading our image serving, we are nearing 10,000 images served per second and existing stuff just isn’t cutting it. We will be moving our 200 million images over to RamSan

I have a two character twitter handle also, and am active on it. Used to receive several "reset" emails per day before two-factor authentication.

Unless they change that, and keep on extending it, as it has been done with copyrights.

Only 2 things that I don't like about it: 1) price, 2) can't upgrade.

Otherwise it's very impressive.

Haven't used Nitro myself, worth exploring:

Nitro is a library for painlessly writing scalable, fast, and secure message-passing network applications

I know they are not open source currently, but for now they are not on the list.

It would be awesome if they did open source it, or at least allow for third party (EFF?) review of source.

Dropbox.... “coming soon.” Time to look at Bittorrent Sync again?

Or other open source alternatives?

TMobile in Portland OR, Seattle WA, SF/Bay Area I tested around 16-20MG/s, in other areas (Reno NV, Boise ID) of western US, "4G" runs between 4-8MG/s.

OpenSignal and SpeedTest are the apps that I used.

A blog post I wrote back in 2007 (on Noah's blog) comparing Google and Daemon: http://okdork.com/2007/06/18/is-google-the-daemon/
High prices: General population: $0.10 per response, Demographic targeting: $0.50 per response.

"In simple terms, Curiosity runs, in part, on a $100 million nuclear battery developed at the lab, said Stephen Johnson, division director of Space Nuclear Systems and Technology.

The 2-foot-tall, 2-foot in diameter cylinder aboard Curiosity is packed with radioactive isotopes generating heat. That thermal energy is converted into the electricity fueling Curiosity's wheels, arms and other gadgets, as well as recharging its bank of lithium-ion batteries."

"Fuel cells in the energy source are 1 inch tall and 1-inch diameter cylinders. Each puts out a mind-boggling 9,000 to 10,000 degrees of heat, shift supervisor Dave Hendricks said."

The extra encryption is mostly for keys that I use with the passwords on Keepass.
