Tailscale Funnel could likely do this.

Apple Watches have their own eSIM and they share a number with your phone.
Re:Query Apple's FindMy Network with Python on Saturday December 21, 2024 @09:06AM (#42479750)
The off-but-still-on functionality can be turned off, and the OS does disclose that by default the device is still findable on the power off screen.
Re:PSA: Don't use iPhone Mirroring on your work computer on Tuesday October 08, 2024 @11:24AM (#41778365)
Don’t think so. Push notification flows like this fall into the “something you have” category (which you still do when using mirroring) and additionally when done properly, they require biometrics verification to respond to the “tap yes”.
From the Guidelines[0]:

“Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously;”

Yes, for each aircraft, the amount of brokenness is specified in its Minimum Equipment List: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_minimum_equipment_list
N of 1, etc. etc.

The 152 could have had a 40 year old radio or a crappy antenna. Who knows. As you pointed out - that 152 is subject to a lot less maintenance scrutiny than commercial airliners are.

The other thing that plays in here is that ATC language is very highly standardized. In any specific phase of flight, the pilot will generally know what to expect next from ATC. This allows them to discern instructions (and read them back for verification) even if the signal is weak. In situations like these, ATC may seem completely unintelligible to people not used to ATC language and patterns.

The receivers for LiveATC and the like are frequently somewhat compromised in terms of quality and location. This can cause poor quality reception depending on the location and distance away of the transmitter.

The radios and antennas on both the aircraft and for ATC are not only of much higher quality but are also positioned as perfectly as possible so as to maximize Tx/Rx performance.

All that to say, the pilots and ATC nearly always experience more clear comms than the general public has access to.

For me the key additions are: 1) integration with our org Identity Provider 2) NAT traversal + DERP relay fallback 3) Tailscale’s ACL functionality.
Re:Melatonin use soars among children, with unknown risks on Thursday November 16, 2023 @11:08AM (#38291257)
I've experimented with Melatonin extensively. Different doses, different times, brands, etc. It has never caused an effect that I can notice. So - that's not to say it's not doing something, but to assume it has a noticeable effect on everyone is an incorrect assumption.
I’ve been there before, not with Atlassian, but some other similar SaaS companies. One (usually simple) way to suss out these accounts is to search your incoming mail log for emails from this company. By a process of elimination you can usually find the information needed.

This assumes, of course, that you have administrative access to your email system.

It may be auto-updating by default, but that can be trivially disabled. Likewise, their cloud connectivity/management is optional. I'm running without issue multiple air-gapped Ubnt networks using their self-hosted controller software.

If you’re on iOS, the University of Minnesota (USA) has release an purpose-built app for this sort of thing. I’ve enjoyed it on many flights:

Re:Why do shared hospital rooms not violate HIPAA? on Wednesday August 30, 2023 @09:45PM (#37331500)
Ok
Re:Why do shared hospital rooms not violate HIPAA? on Wednesday August 30, 2023 @09:28PM (#37331396)
I did use it.

From the HN Guidelines:

“Please don't use Hacker News for political or ideological battle. That tramples curiosity.”

You indeed have the right to your opinions. That does not mean that HN must accept and provide a venue for them.

Good luck to you.

Re:Why do shared hospital rooms not violate HIPAA? on Wednesday August 30, 2023 @08:31PM (#37331016)
This was not a productive, nor necessary comment. Please retract it and take it elsewhere. It has no place on HN.
Re:Tell HN: Easy and Effective Gmail Cleanup on Monday August 28, 2023 @10:22AM (#37294462)
FWIW Google Workspace is indeed a subscription - it’s their business-focused offering, whereas Google One is consumer-focused. That said, there’s nothing preventing individuals or families from using Google Workspace - I do, and have for over a decade.

Workspace allows you to use your own domain and provide email/collaboration services for a number of people under the same domain.

Amazon rightly is very careful about closing accounts. This is why you have had a hard time thus far. When you say “invalid email accounts”, what do you mean? Are they perhaps addresses on a domain that you control? If so, it’s a very simple fix. You just re-create those addresses, then go through the “forgot password” process to regain access to those accounts.

If the addresses are on a domain that you do not control, well, that’s a lesson learned for you I think. In this case, you’ll need to continue working with support to explore what can be done.

Re:Ask HN: Why Terraform Is Free? on Sunday July 30, 2023 @10:44PM (#36938260)
I think perhaps Hashicorp sees terraform as a loss-leader, at least partially intended to be an on-ramp to their other, much more costly tools like Vault and Nomad.
Re:AWS Begins Charging for Public IPv4 Addresses on Friday July 28, 2023 @07:10PM (#36914627)
You can put it behind a NAT Gateway, but that also needs a public IP, and also is very expensive.
In situations where there many diversions, sometimes secondary airports either get too busy to accept additional A/C or run out of space or crews to deal with them.
Your intuition is correct. The story as told by the parent is likely just due to a misunderstanding (or just lack of knowledge) of 1) the pilot's words over the PA and 2) standard procedures used in commercial air travel.
There's no possible way the story is true as relayed by the parent. If the flight was indeed forced into a situation where there was an unpowered glide into landing, that airframe and crew would both be grounded for some time, not turned around and put back out for the continuance of the flight.
That flight certainly did not do any unpowered gliding. With their "20 minutes left" line, the pilot likely meant "20 minutes until we hit our reserve fuel", at which point they would be forced to declare a fuel emergency and land at whatever airport is available.
Re:Ask HN: How do you find new music? on Saturday May 20, 2023 @09:42PM (#36017244)
RYM is an absolute gem. I’ve used it nearly every day since first hearing about it a year ago or so.

When trying to discover new artists, I typically start with one I know and then follow the genre rabbit trail and see where it lands.

Re:Ask HN: DNS Zone Management for Subdomain? on Tuesday May 09, 2023 @11:53PM (#35883466)
I do this with Route53. Create a hosted zone with your subdomain - R53 will populate NS records automatically. Then, go back to your top-level zone and add those NS records for the subdomain.
Re:Ask HN: DIY ice bath equation for water cooling on Tuesday May 09, 2023 @09:21AM (#35873919)
Perhaps consider a commercial glycol “beer line chiller”. Unlike your chest freezer, these are designed for 100% duty cycle. Combine one with some sort of a heat exchanger in your water bath and you may have some luck.

Or…just get an ice maker.

Re:Ask HN: DIY ice bath equation for water cooling on Tuesday May 09, 2023 @09:16AM (#35873861)
Agreed. And even if the motor could take the load, the OP’s 25’ coil will be nowhere near enough. Think 4x that much in length and add fins/heat sink to increase thermal transfer.
Re:Minidisc FAQ: MDLP (“Long-Play”) Mode Topics on Friday April 28, 2023 @06:43PM (#35748058)
I’ve recently purchased a NetMD-capable player but admittedly have not yet dug around to see what software is out there. Would you mind providing a link to the one you’ve been happy with?
