It seems inevitable that Anthropic and OpenAI will either raise prices or nerf their models for cost savings. What are the most competitive alternatives for something like Claude Code? Are there any good coding models that can run on an M5 Mac yet? What’s the best agentic coding harness?
The overselling of AI abilities is doing such a disservice to society right now. These companies don’t want to acknowledge how much human collaboration is going into their AI’s achievements because it undermines their value proposition, but I imagine there’s still quite a fair amount going into it and that’s one reason why OpenAI still won’t provide session traces of their models solving open math problems. If they were more transparent about it I think we’d see that human guidance, vision, judgement, taste, and other traits are still highly valuable and complimentary to AI abilities. It should also be a huge red flag how little of any of this output has been formally verified by third parties. I do think AI will eventually do all the things people believe it’s already doing, but I suspect there’s a fair amount of mechanical turking going on behind the scenes as you’d expect any company trying to raise a trillion dollar public offering might do.
I only found out my Switch 1 has a touch screen a few months ago
That’s because the internet briefly left a window open for the masses to attain information outside of controlled channels, but they’ve clamped down on it severely in the last year by giving TikTok US, Paramount, and Warner Brothers to the largest donor of the IDF.
A subtle form of propaganda is choosing what to call legitimate or not, since there’s really no first principles reason for any legitimacy
Do you not just say “do reasoning” and leave it an open “<reasoning>” tag?
We’re also fighting a war for another country and the president’s son in law is brokering deals with foreign nations for personal gain. I don’t think treason is being prosecuted anymore.
How much does it generally cost? Like ballpark
I’d like a ring with a wheel that clicks as a remote for something like glasses or a TV
Well, if you want the root cause: this is what happens when your society is predicated on perpetual growth. Everything would collapse if we just left good things alone, so instead we’re stuck either innovating and creating new good things or squeezing the juice out of what already exists.
Sure, as a founder. I was speaking as a customer.
Never trust a product that takes VC funding. Take advantage of the subsidized prices but have your backup ready.
I've been seeing a lot of Pokemon games recently as well, are companies just not enforcing their copyright/trademarks anymore?
Sure but the Nintendo timeline is just another retelling of the legends of Zelda, an unreliable meta story of a past (or future) that is lost to time
They presumably meant that it’s been downranked relative to what you’d expect from a post with that many upvotes in that short of a time frame. Hundreds of upvotes in a few hours is usually a top 5 post

My effort to help scientists navigate the AI era:
On ChatGPT: Settings -> Data controls -> Turn off “Improve model for everyone”
On Claude: Settings -> Privacy -> Turn off “Help improve our AI models”
They can scrape your work after you publish it.
ah man, I wanted this domain but I'm pleased to see it's at least being put to use instead of squatted
I agree with you, but to play devil’s advocate: what if it is on the same level as Amazon drone deliveries? Is intelligence really a bottleneck in society? People in MENSA with high IQs don’t often accomplish anything in proportion to their relative intelligence. The most intelligent people are rarely even in charge of making decisions. There are a lot of intelligent people with intelligent ideas that nobody listens to. It seems like the real bottleneck in society is building trust, consensus and constructive incentives between groups of people to do the things we already know are smart, not a lack of intelligence.
It wasn’t always like this, it changed in the last 10 ish years as the industry became more lucrative. Or maybe it’s been happening more slowly over a longer period of time, but I do think the earlier founders were more idealistic
What has it giveth? Or which one’s which?
It would be cool if there was a new kind of language we could use where there’s no ambiguity and we could define rules and procedures
Enshittification is inevitable once a company takes VC funding
They won’t find anything because it’ll have rusted and disintegrated within a few hundred years
> As OpenAI bides its time, the company is engaging in early stage discussions with investors about a potential new funding round. The company could raise around $30 billion, CNBC previously reported, but that figure could change.
I predicted last month when they launched Luna that they had raised more funding and I suspect this tidbit dropped to CNBC is just prepping the public for a fundraising that’s already happened. There will probably be an announcement this month.
He did not say LLMs are not useful, he said they’re valuable for software engineering and could justify a hundred million or billion dollar valuation but not a trillion dollar valuation
It has literally not even been a day yet
No because domain squatters take 99% of the good ones.
Although it seems better for .ai where the price has been increased so that you have to pay $180 for the first 2 years. There are still a lot of squatters but not as many as the cheap TLDs, and $180 is still within range for a startup or hobbyist so I hope more TLDs do this.
> But it also appears that no human has understood just about any of these proofs yet
Has anyone verified any of the proofs produced by OpenAI or is everyone just assuming that it just be true because the Lean code checks out? Couldn’t the Lean code just be formulated incorrectly?
