Re:The Loneliness of the Mid-Level Vimmer on Thursday December 21, 2023 @01:49PM (#38724935)
As a vim user since the 90s - this is what I've landed on. It pretty easy to disable the vim plugin if you're sharing your computer with a muggle.
I'm having a similar experience. I turned off my “looking for jobs” status a few weeks ago, and just turned it back on, expecting a flood. Never came ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Beautiful. I have a couple of the NuPhy [1] keyboards so I'm definitely in the target market.

The Rotary Encoder is a dealbreaker for me though. I want something slender that I can easily slip into a case or backpack. If it was optional, you'd have a customer!

For the page:

Why doesn't it work in a VM?

Re:Asdf Performance on Friday August 12, 2022 @03:00PM (#32442611)
It’s all relative but 100 open issues doesn’t sound bad for a somewhat popular project to me. For example, rust-lang/rust has over 8000.

Regardless, I curious if there were _specific_ issues you had.

And following that, I’m also curious what you moved to instead.

Re:Asdf Performance on Friday August 12, 2022 @01:03PM (#32441267)
That does not sound like my experience.

Are there GitHub issues for the bugs you mention?

Re:Ask HN: How to find a job in 2021 if I dislike remote? on Tuesday December 28, 2021 @07:39AM (#29713188)
Find a company whose product is primarily physical. I work at a robotics company and much of our staff never went remote.

My team is primarily remote but I’m actually hiring an on-site person for IT.

I use dual LG 24UD58-B’s (one landscape, one portrait) for coding and I’ve been satisfied.

I don’t run them at native res, but this never bothered me. I also don’t game or edit photos or video either.

Can anyone elaborate on “Stop: Modern C++” under 2021 Tech Radar?
What apps do you use?
This is what I do as well.

I use Homebrew for general purpose niceties like starship, fzf, and casks.

Project deps are managed with asdf.

The “right answer” may in fact be Nix however. I just haven’t fully grokked it yet.

Re:Sublime Text 4 (Build 4126) on Tuesday December 21, 2021 @10:04AM (#29638021)
Is there any kind of remote development support (ssh, docker) in Sublime? That’s the killer feature that keeps me on VS Code.

It can be configured up to 64gb with the M1 Max.
Many online games have a season model now, and SO at least partially gamifies developer Q&A, so this tracks.
It’s free (it’s right in the title)
Re:Agile at 20: The Failed Rebellion on Sunday July 25, 2021 @09:03AM (#27948869)
XP, Scrum and agile-adjacent Lean all pre-date the manifesto. The manifesto just tried to put all these ideas under one umbrella.
Re:Python Best Practices for a New Project in 2021 on Monday July 05, 2021 @09:02AM (#27737508)
Containers are great for web services or anything that primarily communicates through a port.

Less so for CLI style projects that read and write to the local file system. Yes I know you can bind mount directories but it’s clunky and you also usually have to fight with file permissions issues.

Never used pypiserver but I’ve had a good experience with https://github.com/devpi/devpi

C++ will not save you any trouble over python. It’s tooling and package management is significantly more complex.

I use iTerm integration over Eternal Terminal to my workstation all day. It’s great.
This appears to be unrelated to https://www.yoctoproject.org ?
Re:You don't really need a virtualenv on Thursday February 04, 2021 @06:47AM (#26024561)
I wish the tooling around devcontainer.json was available separately from VS Code. Most of my company are die-hand vim users. We’ve rolled our own “devcontainer” analog but it’s not nearly as seemless.
Re:Asdf – An Extendable Version Manager on Wednesday February 03, 2021 @06:53PM (#26020853)
I know that Conan claims to be a generic packager and tool manager (https://docs.conan.io/en/latest/howtos/other_languages_packa...) but is anyone using it for that?

asdf seems like it has much wider support
