News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I think this kind of dilemma is with everyone who is attending professional events. I am wondering what are the parameters you all think about when you make decision about attending an event. Would love to see some pointers here.

Thats true. Hopefully EventzIO will solve this problem. All Technology / Startups / Business Conferences in our pocket :)
Re:America's obsession with STEM education is dangerous on Wednesday April 01, 2015 @11:08AM (#9304210)
Can't really comment on America's obsession, but my business and real-life problem solving sense has definitely been empowered by the subjects I pursued in humanities & social sciences domain - rural development, organizational behavior, psychology, economics - apart from my Engineering major. I believe that technology is the backbone when it comes to large scale mobilization of a solution to a problem, but we do need the right perspectives to figure out the solution first.

This will give a pinch to many startups that are coming up with various on-demand service models. In India, there are already many startups around such a concept, but delivery experience is still below average.
JSFM is a JavaScript framework (https://github.com/anoopchaurasia/jsfm) that enables a developer to write codes in Java style architecture - the way key features in Java behave, such as Inheritance, Abstraction, Polymorphism, Encapsulation, Constant, & Static. ECMAScript 6 is also coming up with similar feature set that have already been implemented in JSFM.
Re:The Terrible Technical Interview on Monday March 23, 2015 @06:03AM (#9250113)
I follow this process for most of tech/product/analyst type roles. Specifically, in the case of tech, to me, it really depends upon the level of coding exposure a candidate has. If he/she is a fresher then I would prefer some real-time exercise (white-board/phone/skype exercises) - it helps me get the idea of a person's thought process. I don't look for right answers in that exercise. If the candidate has some code exposure, I prefer to dive deep into his previous work and figure out how he executed the projects. In both the cases I am trying to asses a candidate's approach to execute something. I also try to figure out the candidate's ability to pickup new things and start executing them quickly. This is measure of a candidate's potential. I assign similar weightage to 'Potential' as to 'Past Work History'.
Re:Strategies, tools and tactice for mobile growth on Tuesday March 17, 2015 @07:59AM (#9217341)
The slides have summarized key pointers nicely. Kind of reminds the focus on the initial steps while launching a mobile product.
Look interesting as I explored. Any specific objective other than the gaming side of it?
Re:Companies with a flat structure are weird on Sunday March 15, 2015 @06:33AM (#9206030)
IMO, Decentralized Decision Making is one of the fundamental characteristics of a flat organizational structure. Nowadays, at many places, 'flat structure' is being wrongly understood as 'easily approachable management'. However, such companies don't understand and don't conduct decentralized form of decision making. I would not prefer to go after literal meaning of the word 'flat', but at my organization, if I am able to conduct decentralized form of decision making in an effective manner, I would be happy to call it a 'flat organization'.
My interpretation is that the data count for the proposed sites would not be included in the internet plan that a consumer might have taken. It might have some impact on internet pack pricing, but competition should be able to correct it. I don't see any hit on the net neutrality; as of now, it simply appears like a freemium model.
Re:Show HN: Budbak – Content Matters, Not the Source on Monday December 08, 2014 @09:04AM (#8716406)
“Content Matters, Not the Source”. This is the fundamental philosophy of this initiative. This initiative is a result of my observation on two points: 1) People judge a writeup based on the author’s professional or personal background, and 2) Similar or better content of an ordinary individual or organization are ignored. Based on above two point arguments, I decided to run this experiment of presenting content with anonymous sources to everyone and see how readers respond.
