Re:Android coming to wearables on Tuesday March 18, 2014 @01:01PM (#7423181)
This is not wearables. It is just a tiny screen mobile device. I'd consider labeling Google Glass a wearables before what was demoed here.

Wearables is the idea of changing what we wear with technological augmentation. Watches have had tech for a long time....nothing new here sadly....

I always had thought it was TooLazy;Didn'tRead....I guess TooLong also works.
Re:Perian is shutting down on Tuesday May 15, 2012 @11:03AM (#3976868)
Perian has been the first thing I install on every mac I own/use.

A sad day.

Perian team, great job guys and thanks for the many years of awesomeness.

Re:Dear Github, please fix the Watch-Button on Monday February 27, 2012 @06:52PM (#3641178)
I have two suggestions:

Activate a 'quiet' mode? In quiet mode nothing is sent to people's feeds.

Daily Digest mode. Daily digest would do just that. Lump all update in a day into 1 news feed.

I'd be happy with either option.

Re:Verizon's audacious new fee for on-line payments on Thursday December 29, 2011 @10:41PM (#3406485)
Bank of America, NetFlix, GoDaddy and now Verizon.

Companies in 2011 that suffered self inflicted wounds to their brand.

Re:GoDaddy is scrambling to do damage control on Friday December 23, 2011 @06:49PM (#3387642)
I got the same "yeah lol, whatever" email last night after I emailed them my concerns regarding their support of SOPA.

Knowing they helped create SOPA is the most damaging fact in my opinion which is why I'm still heading for the door.

I admired Bob back in the day but it seems things have changed over the years.

Re:Ask HN: Your code editor, black on white or white on black? on Tuesday December 20, 2011 @09:07AM (#3373446)
I use Vibrant Ink. I like the clarity of it and port it to any enviro I use.

Font: inconsolata of course. http://www.levien.com/type/myfonts/inconsolata.html

This feels to me like Facebook is kicking out the developers out of their house. Makes sense I guess.
Re:Show HN: My weekend project, QR-codes for everybody on Sunday June 26, 2011 @04:05PM (#2698946)
If want to generate QR Codes locally I shared the qrcode generator I use in my Safari Extension (Tab Transmit).

Re:Poll: Should HN display comment scores? on Sunday May 29, 2011 @11:34PM (#2598393)
As Edward Tufte would probably put it, I feel some fidelity to the comments has been lost without the scores. The score for me added a 'feel of the community' for each of the comments left and that only mattered IFF the comment actually was worth reading.

As to the disturbing situation you mention I'd look to finding a way to make such behavior more shameful.

Contributing to an open source project that you admire will do wonders. Any contribution you do will be scrutinized and you will get some good advice on your works.

Also remember to also hang out and become a regular with the developers on the corresponding freenode irc #channel.

Glad to see QS getting updates. The new plugins are welcome...well they are new to me (QRCode and Viscosity)
Re:Why TechCrunch is over on Sunday April 03, 2011 @01:00AM (#2401859)
Totally agree. I couldn't believe that TC decided to put the comments system (the only reason visit TC) in a walled garden that is Facebook. I myself have all FB widgets blocked at my proxy so it took me a while to realize why there were no comments when I clicked through.

Delegating the primary form of participation on your site to an outside firm strikes me as a bad idea. Maybe Facebook is paying TC to use their system?

Re:Facebook is Big and Boring on Saturday April 02, 2011 @12:44AM (#2399183)
This has happened to every social network that has come before and it will happen again.

Facebook like its predecessors Myspace, Friendster et al., is not the destination but rather the current milestone in the evolution of the Internet, the real Social Network.

Re:Twitter And Facebook Really Are Killing RSS on Tuesday January 04, 2011 @02:17AM (#2066187)
RSS is dying from its overuse (too many blogs) and misuse (spam and pointless feeds).

Also the lack of innovation from RSS reader apps isn't helping.

Re:Ask HN: which obscure Github projects have you found useful? on Tuesday November 23, 2010 @06:54PM (#1935882)
AppSales-Mobile to an amazing and well supported find to track your iOS app sales. https://github.com/omz/AppSales-Mobile

On the Mac Brotherbard's Gitx fork is very cool. https://github.com/brotherbard/gitx

GitFlow - takes your Git skills to the next level. https://github.com/nvie/gitflow

New API to handle calls inside an app and access call data such as history.

This reminds me the Pomodoro Technique. http://www.pomodorotechnique.com/

I bought a pomodoro iphone app and tried it for about a week or so, alas 25 mins was just too short for me.

I generally find 45/20 to be about right balance for me. I now use Vitamin-R (Mac App) to track time/goals.

Re:Why Apple can’t beat Android on Sunday November 07, 2010 @08:44AM (#1879310)
I'm afraid he is misreading what is happening. Apple was never going to own the cellular market like it does the portable music market.

The real story is how Android is destroying Windows Mobile, Blackberry and et. al.

But alas writing such a story isn't as sensational as "Apple Loses Again!!"

*Sigh

I've been doing tai chi for 8 years now and love it. It is peaceful while being very powerful.

My recommendation to any newbies is to get past the awkward beginning stage as fast as you can...otherwise you will not progress smoothly.

When I started I went to 4 classes a week. In 3 months I still knew very little but I wasn't feeling like a n00b and embarrassed. I got over the hump.

+1 for Google.

When I used to develop Facebook apps, long ago, the primary was blow was no access to full contact data.

Glad someone with weight is finally standing up and showing them the wrongness of their approach.

Re:Exercise More to Hack Better on Thursday November 04, 2010 @01:13AM (#1867768)
I started running again after I read Spark by John Ratey. Look it up on Amazon or your local library. Yes we are born to run and then hack it seems.

Of course I am totally wired up with a heart rate monitor/watch/iphone/gps which makes it more fun.

Whatever works for you. Run or whatever gets you pumping then hack like you never have.

Re:Firesheep: Easy HTTP session hijacking from within Firefox on Monday October 25, 2010 @03:43AM (#1828950)
Excellent points on the slideshow. The general lack of care on this topic among web companies is worrisome.
Re:Firesheep: Easy HTTP session hijacking from within Firefox on Sunday October 24, 2010 @10:37PM (#1828226)
logging out will cause the captured sessions to be useless.

So remember to logout.

VPN is really the best overall option.

Re:Firesheep: Easy HTTP session hijacking from within Firefox on Sunday October 24, 2010 @10:24PM (#1828186)
You can slightly reduce the dangers stated here by logging out immediately after you are done doing whatever it is you are doing. This will make the captured session useless.

The best solution is of course to get a VPN acct and use it when you are at free/open wifi spots. I use WiTopia (www.witopia.net)

Re:Ask HN: Show me your Half Baked project on Friday October 22, 2010 @10:43PM (#1822394)
http://promoappcodes.com

A site that lets developers share promo codes for their iOS apps to bloggers and app reviewers. It does the job, but there is so many things I want to do with it.
