HEPA is only for particulate contaminants. At least some of the expensive filters have activated charcoal and other chemical filters.
Yes indeed :)
Hi Aatish! I enjoyed it quite a bit. The fibers on the bottom of the leaf may not be significant -- perhaps they are vestigial and only the upper ones provide an advantage.

Alternatively, heavy rain and wind can flip leaves upside down, blow plants over, and splash dirt and water up onto the underside of the leaves, so maybe it is an advantage for the whole leaf to shed water.

Yes, they have said it will be.
Re:It's A Terrible Time To Buy An Expensive House on Tuesday September 17, 2013 @09:48AM (#6399201)
In many places, homes available to rent are not and will never be comparable in quality to homes available to purchase.

It's easy to think that, but no. The materials will degrade and the data will become unreadable sooner than you think, probably on the order of 10s of years, depending on the manufacturing quality.

I think the real problem with Crumbs cupcakes is that they are actually pretty bad...
Handling delivery of packages is sill a major annoyance of online shopping. I love Amazon but consumer-side logistics could use some serious improvement. The drive to reduce shipping prices as much as possible has definite downsides.

- Items consistently damaged/stolen during shipment. - Delivery of incorrect items/wrong address. - No place to leave packages during the day if you live in an apartment with no doorman. - Impossible to schedule delivery, especially before the first delivery attempt. It is unwise to order things while traveling. - Carriers lie about delivery attempts and times. - Distribution center for package pick up is 10 miles away and only open M-F 9-5.

Re:Yelp Files For $100 Million IPO on Thursday November 17, 2011 @04:52PM (#3249386)
This isn't really fair. In Chrome DNS has practically been replaced by google search, and it's great.

Instead of typing yelp.com (or was it yelp.net? www.yelp.biz? http://www.yelp.info?) I can just type "yelp" and get where I'm going without having to remember the exact url and without getting an annoying error page if I make a typo. I suspect for many users even in other browsers the search box gets much more use than the URL box.

The sample size is so small that drawing any conclusions from this data seems suspect.

Percentage comparisons (hired/applied): 6% JoS fans 4.3% of Columbia job fair 2% Princeton job fair 1.7% of web search and 0% of everything else

Re:Dress.me: Because Guys Hate to Shop on Monday March 21, 2011 @02:29PM (#2350992)
We do give you the model's measurements but they don't necessarily mean much. The stylists for the models will pin the clothes to fit well so the pictures look good.

People who are models generally fall within a certain range of sizes, but it's still impossible to predict perfectly what will fit them, and you might not even have all the sizes available.

No, the writers at the WSJ are the producers of the original content. At some level, every producer is an aggregator. I don't think it's fair to categorically distinguish between the two, although you may disagree on the value of the aggregation.

Re:This year I mean it -- it's a bubble (2007) on Monday December 06, 2010 @07:29PM (#1977469)
In five years it seems that bloggers have about caught up to traditional media in reporting at the whims of PR firms.

Would anyone say there's a higher proportion of PR-resistant bloggers than newspapers or magazines?

Re:Student Arrested For Bringing "Weapon" To School on Friday September 24, 2010 @11:57AM (#1724044)
Why is weapon in scare quotes in the title?
I really wanted to click on it, which was very frustrating.

Usually when there's a new logo you can click on it and instantly find out why it's there.

Supporting telecommuting workers from out of state can be a big financial hassle as it may be enough to establish nexus in the state, which will force your company to collect sales tax there.
Re:StarCraft 2: help us mourn the death of content freedom on Friday August 06, 2010 @05:16PM (#1582344)
I appreciate that in general this attitude has led to erosion of rights. However...

I don't see how anyone other than Blizzard has any right to free speech on their privately owned gaming platform.

Even if Blizzard has created a new medium of expression in Starcraft II maps, why should they should be compelled to enable the distribution of any map they don't like?

I understand that people may not like Blizzard's decision to moderate their platform, but it's a big stretch to say that they are trampling on our right to free speech. Is a newspaper trampling on your right to free speech by choosing which editorials to print?

Re:What you say about others says a lot about you on Tuesday August 03, 2010 @09:57PM (#1573434)
I think the difference is more along the lines of:

- That person is wrong, they must be stupid.

- That person knows he's wrong and is just trying to further his own agenda.

- I think that person is wrong and they are either misinformed or know something I don't.

Can you explain this at all?
Re:Tweet Less, Kiss More on Saturday July 24, 2010 @11:22PM (#1544892)
Twitter, texting, cell phones, etc. don't cause rudeness, they just make it more obvious.
I have a lot of thick facial hair and the disposable razors just weren't cutting it. I've switched to a straight razor with a DE for travel and when I'm in a hurry, and the difference has been amazing. The area on my neck where I used to constantly have ingrown hairs is finally smooth and happy.

I think there are four issues at play: - attention to shaving technique tends to be much less with a disposable, possibly due to ignorance - shaving cream from a can does a bad job of lubricating the face - disposable razors are poorly designed, with a gap between the razor and the skin, and are easily clogged with cut hair - the sharpness of disposable razor blades is essentially unknown

It doesn't really matter if the errors were caused by cosmic rays or the ram failing -- it's still dangerous and relatively undetectable.

We sang in church, and I took cello lessons and was involved in a choir, but neither of them actively played an instrument. My mother was also a good singer.
