Ask HN: Should email verification be mandatory during the registration process?

I am building an authentication system for my website and am trying to figure out whether I should force the user to verify their email address before they can be fully authenticated so the user can perform actions like posting, commenting, purchasing etc. Most people online seem to suggest that email verification should be a mandatory step in the registration process, because if the user were...

Is it better to go to lambda school or get a master's degree to get into AI?

In other words is it better to take lambda school's data science course (or some other bootcamp style course ie Galvanize, Coursera, Kaggle) or get a master's degree in computer science with a focus on machine learning? Is there some other school or course you would recommend to take instead of lambda school or universities?

Understood, thank you :)
Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer. A part time job was something I definitely considered, but I was told that they're not very useful and it's better to go all into startups or all into a full time career path. Nonetheless, I'm actively considering this, but out of curiosity (and a little fear) are part time jobs looked down on by hiring managers in the tech industry?

Ask HN: I'm not happy, should I resign from my company or power through?

I'm a full stack engineer working as a frontend developer at a tech company and I am bored out of my mind working here. This is my first full-time position and I've completed a year at this company now. I'm in my mid-twenties and I want to try starting a tech company, but I barely get any time during the day to get anything done.Everyday is just office, gym, shower, dinner, 1-2 hour gap, sleep....

Re:Ask HN: How to cope with job hunting and depression? on Tuesday February 26, 2019 @07:04AM (#19253583)
For depression, try https://www.7cups.com or https://www.talkspace.com, my therapist on 7cups helped me get through some really tough times. Also their community is amazing. I highly recommend trying them.

As for the job search, it takes a long time to get a new job, the fact that you're getting interviews is a victory of its own, just keep at it. Also if you're having trouble finding a job in a particular city, you could try expanding your search, like in different a city or country. You could also try applying for remote jobs, those are becoming increasingly popular and also pay quite well. Hope that helps, please feel free to dm me @amadkn on twitter if you want to talk. No one should deal with depression alone.

Re:Ask HN: How did you escape your safe 9-5 job? on Monday January 14, 2019 @10:12AM (#18903504)
Hey, thanks for taking the time to respond. Apologies for the misunderstanding. Safe and/or 9-5 jobs are not inherently meaningless. My question was directed towards people who find their jobs to be meaningless, but these jobs also happen to be safe which makes it much harder for them to leave.

Thanks, I'll make sure to pack some rope.

Ask HN: How did you escape your safe 9-5 job?

How did you escape your meaningless 9-5 job to work full time on what you wanted to work on[1]?Did you have a strategy or was it a leap of faith?Did you regret it later on?Are you happy with the decision you made?Where do you think you would be today if you had decided to stay in that job?If you are currently in a job like that, then do you have any plans of escaping to work on your passion[1]?...

Thank you everyone for all your responses and resources. I wasn't expecting such an immense response. I read every single comment and I am very grateful for all the advice.

Ask HN: How did you decide what problems to solve in your lifetime?

In other words, how do you decide between what you want to work on and what should be worked on?I've been stuck with trying to figure what to do with the rest of my life. I can't decide whether I should be working on what I want to work on (Energy, AI) or whether I should work on what I believe should be worked on (Healthcare). It's a short life, so I want to be careful with this decision, to...
