Re:AI Slop Is Flooding Medium on Monday October 28, 2024 @03:12PM (#41974915)
Replace “Medium” with internet. Otherwise this is just a paid promo piece for Medium
Re:Ask HN: Website with 6^16 subpages and 80k+ daily bots on Friday October 25, 2024 @07:56PM (#41951241)
Its a pain in da arse to support brotli decoding in Ruby (not sure about other languages) so when I send http requests, i just omit it in the request headers
1. How does it know how/when to reschedule that doctor's appointment that you need to call to reschedule? How do you know that receptionist won't hang up on your "AI agent" who tries to call them, b/c they think it's some sort of scam bot?

2. How does it know which contacts to contact? Does that acquaintance you talked to for some professional reason need to know your flight got rescheduled? What about that travel agency you talked to last night to confirm the flight?

Re:Ask HN: Why aren't we fighting email spam more effectively? on Thursday October 24, 2024 @11:49PM (#41942063)
Mark them as spam and it will affect their deliverability rates

I highly doubt any agency will enforce violations since there would be thousands of companies in violation

Re:Perplexity AI's new tool for researching the stock market on Monday October 21, 2024 @04:32PM (#41908250)
This. If something "worked", then nobody would share it, or it's so popular that everyone has everyone applied it, and it doesn't work anymore.
so maybe just lower the price some more?
Just because there hasnt been a story doesnt mean its not important or critical
Re:Ask HN: Solopreneurs, how did you come up with your idea? on Monday October 14, 2024 @02:46PM (#41840565)
That, and when people ask me about my problems, i tell them about it. But then i realize they want to know about problems that have a scalable or easy solution they can build.

In other words, I gave them my damn problem but they arent interested in solving them.

So no, i aint talking to you about my problems anymore

Re:Ask HN: Solopreneurs, how did you come up with your idea? on Monday October 14, 2024 @02:44PM (#41840547)
Exactly, if you are waiting to make something that very very few ppl are doing, you will be waiting a lifetime. That or the market is extremely small to be profitable.
Re:Boring Tech Is Stifling Improvement on Monday October 14, 2024 @10:40AM (#41837983)
Throwing away old code and rewriting it in a sexy, new language also takes time away from projects that are actually meaningfully innovative: ie projects that help customers do more, or be more efficient
Does this affect extensions that know every website you visit even if it doesnt need to know, and has nothing to do with the extension’s functionality? (ie the ones that Similarweb buys)
For those unaware, what is uBO and how would it affect most extensions?
Shockwaves? yawns it doesnt affect me, my bank account, my family, my health or my happiness. Who cares?
How is this different/unique than the thousands of other competitors that pretty much promise the same thing? sorry if it sounds dismissive of your product, but that's my first impression, and probably a lot of other ppl's too, so would be good to get a good answer...
That’s not a bug. Thats a feature. When I request desktop view in my iphone, it should just treat me as a desktop user. I know its buggy. I know its a horrible experience but I just wanna see what its like.

Now I wont even check it out because I didnt get that first impression on my phone. I will just forget it.

Just my 2c

You are basically asking a $1m question. And expecting someone to answer it for free.

And you aren’t even sharing your product with us.

Re:Ask HN: How to market a tool built for B2B? on Sunday September 22, 2024 @07:52PM (#41621106)
I am not helping a random person with such an open ended question without at least knowing what this tool is. So share the tool.

Otherwise good luck finding what you need.

The problem is I don't trust all those SaaS reviews in sites like G2, TrustRadius, Gartner etc. A lot of them are paid, and incentivized. Heck, I personally wrote a few nonsense ones just to get free gift cards. But I know some people give our free credits or discounts if you write a review for them.

Even a lot of "free" reviews on Reddit are secretly posted by the company, or someone who got paid by the company.

[UPDATE] Just tried the tool. 7 of the 8 bullet points your tool gave me was also given to me by Claude. I think both are using similar data sources, so I fail to see what differentiates this tool

Re:Tell HN: Never trust logos in SaaS sites on Friday September 20, 2024 @12:17PM (#41603423)
Unfortunately those are the same people in charge of buying decisions in big companies…
Re:LinkedIn is now using everyone's content to train their AI tool on Wednesday September 18, 2024 @06:06PM (#41586083)
If you're not paying, you're the product.

If you're paying, you're also the product.

Re:Ask HN: Are you making money from LLMs? How? on Wednesday September 18, 2024 @07:50AM (#41578545)
What % of your reveneue goes towards LLM costs?
I pasted a video link and it says “Not Found”. Absolutely not the best first impression.
How did Marblism know what external APIs were available when it generated those search volume charts? (or is it mock data?)
Re:Ask HN: Who Is OpenAI's O1 For? on Friday September 13, 2024 @03:29PM (#41534346)
ChatGPT has got to be the worst debate partners to practice with. They will give up so easily and tell you “you have a good point and are right.” as soon as you refute them.
Re:Ideas to make money as solo dev on Friday September 13, 2024 @01:04PM (#41533050)
That or integrations/apps for SaaS app stores and marketplaces. Think Salesforce apps, Shopify apps, etc
Re:Does Your Startup Need Complex Cloud Infrastructure? on Friday September 13, 2024 @08:58AM (#41530832)
Wouldnt there be slight differences in different Unix flavors so that the script couldnt run in all of them? If it only worked on Solaris, what would happen if Solaris retired? (Like what happened to Centos)
Its the same thing as people claiming there’s an “accountant shortage”. Both are nonsense. There’s a shortage of people who want to do the job for pennies
Re:Ask HN: Why Is Pave Legal? on Wednesday September 11, 2024 @11:05AM (#41512059)
"data are aggregated anonymously".. that's what almost every data broker with a security breach also said at one point in the past.
