In other news, research institute such as S&P, McKinsey and MIT that try to estimate when level 5 autonomous vehicles will be achieved, all agree it won't happen before 2040.
Re:ESP32-C3 Adblock on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @07:31AM (#49991269)
But a remote resolver, such as the ones on the list, is not used to determine whether an item is contained in a set (0.0.0.0) but rather to retrieve the current IP of that domain.

The way Pi-Hole is used is to first determine whether a DNS should be blocked and only if it's not in that set, forward it to a remote resolver. I'd think the local resolver should be at least an order of magnitude less than the remote to justify it.

Re:Fed hikes rates as inflation worries push up bond yields on Thursday September 17, 2026 @08:16AM (#49739706)
It was hard to watch and ended abruptly. Perhaps the only 2 reporters that kind of tried to challenge the contradictions in his approach were Nick Timiraos and Michael McKee.

I think that one obvious question that no one asked him, is why not cancel the post FOMC press conference if he opposes forward guidance and won't even explain what data guides his vote when asked about it.

Re:Eating Fruit Skins on Saturday September 12, 2026 @06:10PM (#49677750)
Not far from where I live, there are plenty of strawberry fields where I go outside to run. Over the years I found that every year, they'd throw huge amount of perfectly edible fruit in big piles at the edges of the field. Last spring I started collecting them in 5 gallon pails. The plan was to use them for Jam. Being quite lazy, I figured it'd be too much of an effort for me to cut the leaves. I wasn't sure what to expect but I love the result, the leaves added some really nice texture and offered no offending flavor that I could detect.

I can't name them, but some mango cultivars have very palatable skin. Even on ones where the skin is a bit bitter, it gets much better when the fruit is ripe.

Re:Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:49PM (#49540664)
Same for me (at least through the Gemini app).
Not the same story, but very related is this Heavyweight's episode from its last season: https://www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/heavyweight/66-deborah
Maybe another option is to dilute it with water so that you can use regular kitchen scales.
Re:Who bears the risk in Nvidia's $500B financing platform? on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @07:34PM (#49457354)
Through the treasury's TGA if you count last week announcement to double the spending on bonds buyback program.
Re:Who bears the risk in Nvidia's $500B financing platform? on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @07:31PM (#49457331)
Nvidia still manufacture the A100. The argument I hear isn't only about computing power value of older gen GPUs but about their 3-5 life expectancy under continuous use.
What do you mean by "review session"?
1. From the article:

> During the first nine months of fiscal 2026 (October through June), authorities recorded 1,509 encounters, down from 10,291 during the same period in fiscal 2023, a decline of about 85 percent.

10k was the number recorded 3 years ago, it's been down significantly regardless of whether a wall exists or not.

2. These numbers aren't specific to Big Bend NP itself but rather to the much larger Big Bend Sector (the border contained within the park is but ~22% of these 517 miles [1]):

>The figures cover the entire Big Bend Sector, which is wider than the park itself and spans roughly 517 miles of the border.

There are no figures as to how many of the people recorded illegally crossing even used the NP part of Big Bend Sector.

Add to that the fact that the NP terrain is far more difficult to walk through than the surrounding sector and it's quite easy to see that the number of recorded illegal crossing from within the NP itself are likely to at least an order of magnitude smaller than these figures.

> Anyways, besides that, the README does clearly state "The Problem" and "The Idea" which outlines exactly why the author built this particular project.

I asked about the use case _because_ the readme states a problem but does not offer a solution to that problem as far as I could see.

Other than being aesthetically pleasing (which it doubtlessly is), what's the use case for this?
Re:Developers don't understand CORS (2019) on Sunday June 21, 2026 @02:56PM (#48621556)
I think part of what makes CORS hard to remember is the amount of conditional branches it contains, which partially stems from being modeled to have backward compatibility with HTML forms (which defines how CORS behaves for "simple requests). Remove this legacy trap and there are far fewer cases to remember.

Of course, that can't be undone now but I think the original-ish sin was when forms suddenly could perform _both_ cross origin requests _and_ get the ambient authority treatment (i.e. send the user cookies with the request though to be fair, basic auth + forms also enabled similar attacks even before cookies were introduced in the mid 90's).

Re:Claude Fable 5 on Tuesday June 09, 2026 @05:08PM (#48467794)
Has anyone managed to use Fable for firmware reverse engineering tasks without falling back to Opus?
Depreciating doesn't just mean it could depreciate in value relative to the performance of newer GPUs, but also that its lifespan is limited by reliability issues and failures.
Re:I love my Bluetooth keyboard on Monday May 25, 2026 @10:50AM (#48267551)
Or use scrcpy with the same keyboard you already have and save your neck some of the pain of staring down at your phone (as can be seen in the post).
Re:Gemini CLI will stop working from June 18, 2026 on Wednesday May 20, 2026 @04:09PM (#48213398)
Earlier this month I switched from Claude Code to Codex and wanted to try Gemini CLI as well. It felt far behind both CC and Codex but I wanted to give it another chance with the new Antigravity CLI. What can I say, it did surprise me and not in a good way in but two short sessions that included just two prompts (trying to reverse engineer some earbuds OTA firmware) using Gemini Flash 3.5, I managed to finish my weekly quota. I'm currently on the Google AI Pro subscription. Couldn't even figure out my tokens usage or if my plan is even counted toward usage inside Antigravity CLI.
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026) on Sunday May 10, 2026 @07:05PM (#48089066)
Link to repo is broken
Given how the cache eviction policy is mismatched with the 5h usage window,it might make sense to just stop at say 97% of the session max usage and keep running a script every 4 min and 50 sec that consumes a minimal number of tokens whose entire purpose is to keep the cache. reply
