Re:Create a digital wardrobe from your Google Photos on Monday May 04, 2026 @08:35AM (#48007907)
This is amazing, although I would prefer to use a self hosted alternative to this. Nonetheless, I'll be eager to try it out
Re:I Quit Editing Photos on Tuesday March 24, 2026 @10:28AM (#47503118)
I do the same. Then group them in Digikam. Cull aggressively and put the best photos in an "external library" in Immich. Easy way to make them avaliable to my phone, without cluttering up my iCloud photos with duplicate JPEGs.

The last issue with my workflow now is figure out a better way to cull my iCloud photos, as they are a mess, and it's a bit annoying doing it on my phone.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter what you say. It's mostly about body language and not seeming like a threat (smile). You can talk about whatever. Tell them about a movie you just saw and ask them about recommendations. Ask them for restaurant or dinner suggestions. Tell them about that article you just read which you found intereting.

If they are open to small talk, they will drop some tidbits that you can spring off on. Conversation is a two way street. If they don't seem interested in keeping the conversation going, tell them to have a nice day and carry on with yours.

Re:Ask HN: Do you subscribe to any magazines/publications on Thursday February 05, 2026 @09:41AM (#46900147)
Also, I was looking into London Review of Books. I like The Economist, but find it can be a bit lacking on culture. Any experiences with LRB?

Super interesting project and impressive engineering. It wasn't quite clear to me how he solved the problem with

> Their motors are designed for slow, dampened pans across a stage, not for tracking a jet moving at 300 knots. The mechanical and electronics latency is significant; if you simply tell the camera to “follow that plane,” by the time the motors react, the target has often moved out of the frame.

Is he able to move the motors faster than they are designed to be moved? Is this the __Control (PID + Feed-Forward Loop)__ fix?

Unfortunately not due to co-living with the landlord.
I was recently evicted from my apartment in a city in Norway experiencing similar growth in short-term rentals. The rental on that apartment was around €750 (same for my roommate). Apparently, during high season in the winter similar apartments goes for ~€830 a night. High season is 3 months in the winter, but seemingly that is enough to outcompete longterm tenants.
Re:WhoSampled Is Joining Spotify on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @04:48PM (#45985748)
Yeah, my bet is they are going downhill. Would love to know if anyone is archiving the work. I've contributed with a few samples over the years, and it't kind of annoying that this is now under Spotifys ownership.
Re:Immich v2.0.0 – First stable release on Thursday October 02, 2025 @07:20AM (#45448273)
You’re thinking about the [Lindy effect](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindy_effect)

I donate to Immich monthly, and I’m glad they managed to keep the project going and not paywalling any of their features, even under the influence of their new sponsor.

Interesting read! And kudos to the security researchers for investigating
Re:Freetar – an alternative front end for ultimate-guitar.com on Thursday November 30, 2023 @08:16AM (#38473084)
I added a PR[0] to a CLI project doing exactly this for all your saved tabs. Could probably be extended for all tabs on the site as well.

There is also Tromsø, Norway with a population of almost 70k. We're at 69 degrees north. I'm pretty sure we have a truck stop close by.
Re:Reconstructing Obsidian Features in Vim and Bash on Wednesday June 07, 2023 @04:09AM (#36224231)
Happy user of wiki.vim here. I've just started using the journaling feature which I enjoy. What do you use on mobile to edit your wiki/journal?
Re:OpenBeta – open-source Rock Climbing Routes on Thursday December 02, 2021 @07:32AM (#29415304)
Lately I've really gotten into bouldering, and I keep looking for some open databases with outdoor crags. I've looked into multiple applications where users submit their own routes, and other users have to pay the app creator in order to access these routes.

Today I stumbled upon OpenBeta, which seems promising, however it currently seems to only contain US routes. I would love to get some discussion on alternatives.

PS. Not affiliated

Re:Ask HN: Will there ever be a E Ink Photo Frame? on Monday November 29, 2021 @09:04AM (#29379968)
Not exactly what you are asking for. But I have this project in my todo list.

The Very Slow Movie Player: https://debugger.medium.com/how-to-build-a-very-slow-movie-p...

It needs to be built/assembled yourself, however there aren't that many parts involved

"Norwegian internet users were tracked by Disqus because the company did not know that Norway introduced the common European privacy regulation GDPR in 2018. It thus took 511 days before Norwegians were incorporated into the company's "privacy mode" for GDPR countries and previously collected information was deleted."[0]

It seems that there was some setting that is enabled by default in all other countries than countries with the GDPR law.

Also, from an earlier article: "The company also claims that they have not shared Norwegians' online visits with anyone other than the parent company Zeta Global. Zeta Global describes itself as a 'data-driven marketing company"' that has information on over two billion identities."[1]

As a Norwegian, it will be interesting following this case.

I am not affiliated to this project. I happend to find it while doing some reading about Kerbal Space Program 2.

Looks like a interesting project in active development.

I'm in the process of setting up a Matrix homeserver myself. It seems like there are some missing features.

From their github:

> Is Dendrite stable?

Mostly, although there are still bugs and missing features. If you are a confident power user and you are happy to spend some time debugging things when they go wrong, then please try out Dendrite. If you are a community, organisation or business that demands stability and uptime, then Dendrite is not for you yet - please install Synapse instead.

> Does Dendrite support push notifications?

No, not yet. This is a planned feature.

> Does Dendrite support application services/bridges?

Possibly - Dendrite does have some application service support but it is not well tested. Please let us know by raising a GitHub issue if you try it and run into problems.

How do you usually format your searches to avoid all the SEO crap?
Re:The biggest competitor to your digital service? The Mars Bar on Wednesday December 16, 2020 @10:14AM (#25443483)
+1 for jellyfin. It is a lot of work going on and 10.7 which will be launching soon will bring a lot of more nice features.

Also, SyncPlay is sweet!

Re:Europe's night trains are on track for a resurgence on Monday December 14, 2020 @06:03PM (#25424586)
I have taken the Oslo-Bergen night train line multiple times.

It was quite expensive. You had to buy a two bedroom coach, even if you were traveling alone.

Recently, the Norwegian train company have made a new offering which I would describe as more "hostel"-like, where you sleep in a coach with 5 strangers[0]. Hopefully this will offer a much more affordable option.

Oh, wow. I'm running CentOS 8 on my home server. Anyone have any recomendations for a good, stable, home server OS?

What is the context behind this?
