bellsong.net | Chief of Staff - First Employee | Remote - east coast hours | $60-$80k | 45 days vacation/year

Bellsong is an early stage business exploring opportunities related to therapy. This is an opportunity to join early, work alongside an experienced founder (that’s me!) and grow with the organization.

We’re motivated by a few key questions:

* Is there an alternative to the high-growth startup model that centers customers and employees rather than outside stakeholders?

* Therapy changes lives. How do we honor and promote this practice?

* Therapists are superheroes. How can we support and uplift them?

We’re looking for a generalist. Your work will span three major areas:

* Operations: you’ll keep projects organized and on-track. In a chaotic startup, you’ll be a force for order.

* Writing: from emails and blog posts, to therapist profiles—you will use language to tell stories and convince others.

* Grit: this is a role where you’ll take out the proverbial trash. You will own all of the sometimes tedious administrative work.

Re:Ask HN: What is your go to idiot-filter question in interviews? on Wednesday December 07, 2022 @04:31PM (#33900570)
What questions do you have for me?

Works for non-software engineers too. Filters out if they've done any research at all into our work and if they're curious.

This is exactly the type of content I come to HN for.

The average SNAP recipient receives about $4 a day and sees their balance run out after just 17 days.

This is not enough.

At Lemontree, we sell family dinner. We believe in the power of sitting down together for a home cooked meal. We understand the magic of saying “here I made this” and connecting with loved ones.

Our product helps the more than a million moms, dads and kids across New York struggling with hunger set the table with pride and possibility. Every week, we deliver everything our customers need to create an amazing dinner for just three dollars a plate.

We're looking for a generalist problem solver who loves to get their hands dirty... More here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Lfchw2M6R9ZTTXhFUWQpO5jV...

Mostly lurker coming here to say that Retool is the #1 SaaS app we use to run our startup. I rarely evangelize things, but Retool is so amazing that I feel the need to yell from the rooftops.

Everyone on our team is now able to build complex tools and dashboards without dev resources!

I heard that this event was baller!

Wow. It is pretty crazy that they're all female. I wonder if they have an algorithm to figure out who's more attractive or if they just choose people of the opposite gender.
Re:Ask HN: Best desk chair, sub-$300? on Tuesday February 14, 2012 @01:03AM (#3588872)
Find a chair liquidator. They buy supplies in bulk from companies moving or going out of business. You should be able to get a steelcase leap v1 for $250. A quick google search finds these guys in SF http://officecomforts.com/. I got great deals from these guys in NY wbofficefurniture.com

Best of luck.

New York, NY Full Time (remote or relocation)

Backend Engineer @ Dispatch.io

What we do ---- Dispatch connects your cloud services to give you one place to organize, share, and collaborate around your stuff. Our vision is for a more connected cloud.

Why you should work here ---- We are a small, fast-moving team who are passionate about building awesome things. You'd be one of the first few members of the team (we’re 5 people right now).

We have a big open office in the Flatiron district in NYC, in the center of the NYC tech scene. Our kitchen is well stocked, and our Campfire overfloweth with animated GIFs. As a team member you'll work on your schedule, have access to competitive health insurance plans, a chance to earn real equity, and, most importantly, the opportunity to contribute in a big way to building new ways to organize, collaborate and share in the cloud.

We're looking for a backend engineer. The Dispatch backend is a service oriented architecture, built entirely on AWS. Most of the current services are written in Java (and some Scala), but we’re language agnostic. Want to write that new service in Fortran? Go for it! Ok, maybe not. Let’s talk about it.

You'll work on architecting and building new stuff, and on improving existing services.

Like hacking on 3rd party APIs? Good, because we build on Dropbox, Google Docs, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, with plans for many more. Interested in file transfer and sync? We’re making moving files in the cloud fast and reliable. Search? We’re building search across the stuff in your clouds. Realtime? You can head up our plans to move from asynchronous polling to a socketed system.

Things we're looking for ----

* Good architecture skills with a focus on details, experience with fault-tolerance, use of message queues, etc. * Experience with small or cross-functional teams (startup experience would be nice). * Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, e.g. data structures, time complexity, algorithms. * Comfort with statically-typed languages, knowledge of OOP. * Security-mindedness, with the ability to identify and defend against threats and vulnerabilities. * Experience with Amazon Web Services would be nice.

If you're interested in applying please email [email protected]

The two secrets as I see it are:

1. you need to start with a project instead of just blindly reading technical books.

2. Having a mentor really helps.

That's the point of the game. They have to trick you in to clicking on the links.
