Re:A designer's guide to loving the terminal on Thursday March 28, 2024 @01:03PM (#39854395)
As a designer, I spend a surprising amount of time in the terminal. I wrote up this short post to showcase some of the things that I use the terminal for in my day to day.

I'm hoping that something here inspires a designer who is looking to become more technical to start to leverage some of the tools available in the command line.

https://www.bogleheads.org/ is somewhat similar in terms of active discussion for investing and personal finance. Unfortunately, it’s in a forum format so threaded discussion is a bit difficult.

Vercel put out https://github.com/vercel/satori which does similar things (albeit with JSX and a slightly different use case).

Vega-Lite is even easier to get into as well.

Re:VR on Friday January 13, 2017 @02:27PM (#13393904)
I agree with this sentiment. I can't speak for the Vive, but I did get to try an Oculus headset (but not the new Touch controllers) over the holidays for an extended period of time.

The head/motion tracking was spot on and I didn't notice much lag at all. The problem was more with the resolution of the screen, FOV, and light leaks. I constantly had to trick myself in order to feel immersed. Also, if you don't have near perfect vision, the display will look even worse and its quite uncomfortable to wear the headset with glasses.

I think we're on the path, but the first generation headsets out there now are more in line with an expensive tech demo than anything else. I suppose that it is to be expected though. I look forward to future iterations.

Re:Ask HN: How do you manage your passwords? on Wednesday March 11, 2015 @01:35PM (#9185326)
1Password on all the platforms I use (OSX, iOS, and Windows). Great looking UI and an abundance of features. Great support.

I also see the cog and am noticing the lag. I just sent you an email detailing my observations as well as a video of the issue.

Nope we still have that with HTML emails.
Re:Why I'm Done With Social Media Buttons on Thursday February 13, 2014 @03:07PM (#7233907)
Here's a pretty lightweight way to include the functionality (and customize the look): http://cferdinandi.github.io/social-sharing/

I created a small JS snippet (still need to put that up on Github) to grab the counts too which is quite easy.

I think this is great. If only more people agreed on writing and maintaining markdown. Often it's the non-technical folks who are driving how a marketing site is run.

Just a bit of advice, the body font you chose is terrible at smaller sizes.
