Re:Facebook Ban on Linux on Tuesday January 28, 2025 @06:34AM (#42851245)
After the ethnic cleaning of the Linux maintainers list I would say I'm not impressed
There's a wave of actual trolls emerging. Ones who justify that nasty Linux move
Trolls are ones who justify this LF move actually
1. Specific reason has not been disclosed. Why these people but not others.

2. If not USA law then what? What is the state selective criteria to honor their dictate? "Good" states are entitled to dictate, all others are ignored. Is this the way how LF works?

3. Torvalds said his decision is based on the past war where Finns were on the Hitler's side. Still so pathetic about that loss.

1. Does being a russian means "some connections to Russian Government"? What is the specific criteria used in this case?

2. Does punishment by a nationality means USA is nazi itself?

3. What about that public hatred against a Russian nationality expressed by Torvalds? Is it OK to use a nazi hatred for decisions in USA?

Key takeovers:

1. Linux is occupied by USA

2. US praises public hatred against a nationality

Long story short from Torvalds: "I won't revert this change because I hate russians. I hate russians because we had a war in the past. We had a war because we supported hitler. How dare you ask me at all f--king paid trolls"
Re:Linus Torvalds affirms expulsion of Russian maintainers on Thursday October 24, 2024 @07:46AM (#41934594)
Long story short:

Torvalds: "I won't revert this change because I hate russians. I hate russians because we had a war in the past. We had a war because we supported hitler. How dare you ask me at all f--king paid trolls"

We all get the rotting code everywhere. This is a disaster. Who will continue to support the Linux code from the delisted maintainers?

Every time you subscribe it triggers a global search for sources potentially matching your interest. These found RSS feeds, Fediverse publishers, Telegram channels are added to the common collection. For existing subscriptions, it's enough to update without any change to trigger the news sources auto discovery.

Hi,

This article is in response to the feedback to my previous one: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38902250

Mostly it answers the question why unlimited set of sources are important.

I would say Awakari is a polling terminator and content filter
Re:Why Not RSS? on Monday January 08, 2024 @11:54AM (#38914779)
Exact numbers don't matter, because there's a tradeoff. When polling, longer refresh period means longer minimum delay as well.

Firefox is a bad example, I agree. But anyway RSS declines.

RSS client service solves the polling issue gracefully. It polls once for many clients. Also, Awakari is not an RSS client, it's agnostic and proven to be able to consume other source types

Re:Why Not RSS? on Monday January 08, 2024 @02:22AM (#38909098)
It's more about the polling tradeoff

Refresh frequently = waste resources

Refresh rarely = miss important message / too late

Re:Why Not RSS? on Monday January 08, 2024 @02:20AM (#38909092)
People say they still love RSS because they control their reader and feeds collection. It's much easier to control when you have all sources in one place. Comparing to allowed notifications/email subscriptions when you don't recall where you are until you get a spam.

Awakari offers a single place to control all your sources and subscriptions.

Additionally it offers a way to filter the content

Re:Why Not RSS? on Monday January 08, 2024 @02:13AM (#38909063)
I plan to implement Activitypub for subscribing
Re:Why Not RSS? on Sunday January 07, 2024 @12:23PM (#38903067)
You're right, this is one of the reasons of the RSS sunset.

The solution is a cloud service, as mentioned on its site. It monitors really many sources for you and filters what is actually interesting to you and then notifies you.

It doesn't ask for any registration, the only authorization is needed just to prevent exploitation.

Consider you want to apply to a matching job announcement 1st, before others. Then updating every 6 hours may be not enough.

Show HN: Awakari that filters the Internet for you

https://awakari.com

Happy New Year everyone.Almost 2 years ago I started to implement my idea of a Pub/Sub search service for humans.Define your interest query once and stay tuned, Awakari will notify you once a matching event occurs. Track brands, jobs, whatsoever. Not enough sources? Add your own source like RSS feed, Telegram channel, web site. More integrations coming soon, e.g. ActivityPub/WhatsApp or ML stage...
