Yes, I was thinking the same thing! We can stop here and our lives would still be forever transformed.
Re:RIP, vector database on Friday October 02, 2026 @11:00AM (#49934267)
They are not killing the vector database or vector search. They are killing the vector-primary storage layout.

The post itself says ANN becomes “just another” secondary index, and that v3 should make vector search faster along with text and regex.

“RIP, vector-primary index” would have been accurate. “RIP, vector database” is marketing.

Re:Bending Spoons buying Miro for $1.355B on Friday September 11, 2026 @10:14PM (#49668006)
I was an EM at Evernote through the first six months after the close (notifications team).

Left in May 2023, before they shut the US/Chile offices. The sequence was pretty consistent: cut every vendor they could (Zoom disappeared overnight), get to profitable on costs, then raise prices on lock-in.

Personal went from ~$70/year to $130 pretty fast.

The product is still alive; the company that built it is not. They were effective. It was also obvious early that most of us were not part of the long-term plan.

I wrote it up here:

Re:I miss the old Claude Code on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @01:58PM (#49453234)
I too keep setting Opus 4.6 manually in my daily work (when I am not using older Sonnet).
Re:I miss the old Claude Code on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @01:58PM (#49453221)
Fixed now, thank you.

Yes, author here. I was thinking about it more after the post.

I wonder if the harness has a bigger share of blame here than the model itself.

I seem to like using Opus 5 in the browsers a lot more... I.e. it was very helpful in fine-tuning my site after it went down due to HN traffic.

Thank you!
Re:I miss the old Claude Code on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @01:55PM (#49453170)
It did help eventually :)

Fixed now, I did use Opus 5 to help me fine tune it :)

Will probably follow up with another blog post about that soon.

Re:Watchman: Execute a command when something changes on Wednesday October 05, 2022 @10:34AM (#33096088)
Edit: it may have been a different watchman, but same point still applies.

It’s been a few years, so perhaps it got addressed, but this library used to introduce a “memory leak” by design, by infinity storing pointers to files being watched.

It was a pain to isolate (https://techtldr.com/simple-guide-to-finding-a-javascript-me...)

Ultimately I ended up fixing it by writing my own version using native system calls available on Node.

The moral of the story, this library is great if you are building cross platform dev tool. It is not (at least wasn’t at the time) great for long lived processes that target only one type of operating system.

Re:Google Photos is making photos semi-public on Saturday July 13, 2019 @09:05PM (#20431059)
Glad to see it trending again. I raised the same concern years ago, and was mostly ridiculed. Nothing has changed since then.

I’ve been using Google Drive integration to share photos securely, but Google just announced that this will be going away.

In addition I realized that Google strips out metadata from my files during conversion. Common sense, but not something I thought about before.

Time to switch. If anybody has good alternatives I am all ears.
